I would not call it accurate rather poor and outdated

Thanks. Can you say why it's outdated?

Re: Samsung says that smartphones are the safest way to store cryptocurrencies

This is great! Smartphones can now function as hard wallets? Wow! Just wow! It will be more convenient for us because we can now bring our hard wallets anywhere because we always have our smart phones. We can easily access our coins if ever we need to do some withdrawals or deposits because the wallets are already installed in it. Kuddos to Samsung for making this innovation!

Yes really good news. Huawei also announced plan to create a Bitcoin wallet app a couple of months ago - http://www.ccreview.com/news/bitmain-launches-first-huawei-store-bitcoin-wallet-app/

Re: Question about 0x

Is 0x for Ethereum based tokens only? Or can it be used for Bitcoin and other Omni and Neo based tokens for example?
it is for ethereum based tokens only, you can try to visit 0x platform directly and i guess ddex is a similar site like idex but it's building on the 0x protocol.  It can't be used for another token that based on another platform such as omni, neo and other.

Thanks!

This is a reason why banks and other institutions will start introducing Bitcoin accounts soon. They might charge a small fee but like fiat money it will have some laws around it for probate/inheritance. (and the govt can also tax it of course Smiley)

"bitcoin is going nowhere, the government will never let bitcoin be legal" (my brother)

I've heard this from a couple of people from the banking sector and they aren't kidding. Unless the money is traceable the govt won't allow it. (Or the eventual goal will be to trace it and tax it).

No one can predict this. 8 months ago people were saying the same thing when bitcoin was $20,000. Now its less than half that value. Bitcoin might be here to stay but the price is too unpredictable, no one knows were it will settle.

The easiest way to protect yourself against losing your crypto currency is to purchase a hardware wallet. There is nothing easier. You spend one time about $ 100 and do not worry about the fact that something will happen to your assets. You are not even afraid of viruses and trojans on your computer.

What if it corrupts or you lose it?

This article might not be 100% accurate but it does raise some interesting points about Bitcoin energy consumption vs the other way currencies are created - http://www.ccreview.com/news/waster-energy-promising-hope-efficiency/

Re: A basic question about validating transactions and blocks..
by

on 12/05/2018, 22:34:37 UTC

If the miners are extracting information from a shared pool of transactions can the same transaction be in multiple blocks, and therefore be in the Blockchain multiple times?

No. The transaction goes only in one block.
The number os confirmations is the number of mined blocks after that transaction has been added to a block.

I made a brief summary here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3317586.msg34646752#msg34646752

In this explanation it seems it is saying one transaction = one block. There are thousands of transactions per block however.

Where do you know Satoshi is holding 980000 bitcoins? I don't think any one knows the addresses belong to Satoshi. So the number of coins Satoshi owns is also unknown.

Yes I dont know for sure. I have read some articles where it said he holds 980000 or 5% of Bitcoins.

Wow this is new to me.. i didn't know there were miners and non-miners. (I thought all nodes were miners). I have a lot more to learn.

So if i understood correctly.. all incoming transactions are in some sort of "common pool". The miners pull these transactions into themselves and validate each transaction independently, add it to their block + solve the crypto puzzle and add it to the Blockchain.

If the miners are extracting information from a shared pool of transactions can the same transaction be in multiple blocks, and therefore be in the Blockchain multiple times?

A basic question about validating transactions and blocks..
by
crycur
on 11/05/2018, 22:47:03 UTC
Hi, new to Bitcoin and just trying to understand the technology a bit more.

From my understanding there are a few thousand (2.5k on average) transactions per block of Bitcoin. Do the miners when they validate the transactions also communicate this to each other in real time OR the validations are done in isolation on each miner and only added to the chain once all the transactions are bundled in a block + hashed? If its the latter does it not mean some validations are not logged in the blockchain?

Sorry for my confusion.. just trying to understand.

Re: Satoshi Nakamoto holds 980,000 Bitcoins.. does anyone know their addresses?
by
crycur
on 11/05/2018, 22:23:36 UTC
Yes.

There are multiple addresses associated with Satoshi.

The first would be the address to which the first block award, called the "genesis block", was sent to: 1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa

Then there is his/her main address, which has the $900+k you mentioned. I don't know the address for that on and a quick Google search didn't help, but if you download Bitcoin Core you can scroll to the beginning of time in Bitcoin world and find the wallet addresses used for the very first transactions...one of those is owned by Satoshi.

Finally, Satoshi created this forum and has an account here...he/she may have an bitcoin address posted on their profile, check for yourself: Satoshi's Profile

Thanks for the idea. I am new to this so not very technical yet. Has anyone done this research before to see if they have been active exchanging? They certainly haven't been active on this forum since 2010.

Satoshi Nakamoto holds 980,000 Bitcoins.. does anyone know their addresses so we know if he/she/they are active in the market? I would guess Bitcoin is their baby and they wouldn't do anything to manipulate the prices and hurt Bitcoin. But would they be taking corrective measures to fight off some of the other whales?

Its kinda weird question but interesting to me if Satoshi Nakamoto is still "alive" and watching.
