What's the best way to keep my crypto investments secure?
by
cryptolake
on 21/03/2018, 09:45:36 UTC
Currently I have all of my crypto investments sitting on CoinSpot, and from what I've gathered, letting an exchange control your private keys is a recipe for disaster, so I want to move them off site. The issue is that I'm not entirely sure where to move them.

Should I just move them to wallets on my PC? I have money in a handful of different cryptos - do I have to download the full blockchain for each one? Is this going to take up massive amounts of storage space?

Should I just get a hardware wallet? This applies to PC wallets too, but what happens if the drive my wallets are stored in dies and data recovery is impossible? Do I just lose everything I have? If I do get a hardware wallet, are there any options in particular that are objectively superior to the rest?

If I move them into multiple wallets in different locations, am I going to get ruined by fees?

Linux over Microsoft?
by
cryptolake
on 13/03/2018, 06:36:54 UTC
All folks know that Microsoft is centralized. Bitcoin as a community that values decentralization should help Linux by using it. The best for cold storage and other advantages and tools. Besides the added security.

Just a shout out!

Imagine of amazon quietly buys all the bitcoins from mt gox committee and then start accepting bitcoin as currency! If this possible? if yes, what flaws would it have?

[Edit : you are missing the FROM MTGOX part! I do not mean buy every existing coin in the world]

ONLINE COLLABORATION IS BROKEN
by
cryptolake
on 03/03/2018, 19:10:30 UTC
I believe online collaboration is broken due to the following reasons:

1. People today are open to giving time to work on small projects with global partners, but trust and ease of access are limiting factors.
2. Setting up a joint venture company is expensive, confusing, tedious and sometimes unnecessary, especially for small projects.
3. Partner relationships see conflict as the business scales, mostly over resource utilization. Removing a partner for poor contribution/malpractice is difficult.
4. The person/entity who receives the payment needs to manually wire his teammate's share - an error-prone time sink that requires trust.
5. Vesting terms in online partnerships are either arbitrary or hard to enforce.

What would you guys suggest as a solution?

Re: Cryptocurrency Will Kill Cash ? Is this True
by

on 02/03/2018, 11:07:51 UTC
It might turn into new form of cash in future! Wallets like pay-pal, paytm couldn't cut down cash completely even though they have been running with full pace for all these years. Although, cash payemts did reduce to quite an extent, it didnt become extinct. So i feel cryptocurrency will follow the same trend or it might transform itself in a new form of cash!

Gold Trading Giant Goldmoney Enables Cold Storage For Two More Cryptocurrencies
by
cryptolake
on 02/03/2018, 09:54:06 UTC
Goldmoney, the world's largest gold savings and transfer network, has added two more major cryptocurrencies to its cold storage service, according to a press-release published Feb. 27.
The company, which already provides a cold storage service for Bitcoin (BTC), announced it is now adding “Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”)-Compliant” Ethereum (ETH) storage, with Bitcoin Cash (BCH) storage to follow soon after. According to their press release, Goldmoney Inc. safeguards nearly $2 billion in assets for clients located in more than 150 countries.
Goldmoney clients can now directly purchase Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”)-Compliant Ethereum and sell their Ethereum holdings back to Goldmoney in the same way they buy or sell Bitcoin and precious metals as reported by Goldmoney.
As the company explains, client-held cryptocurrencies are stored and secured in an offline cold storage, with private keys stored in a password-protected hardware wallet.

No need to pay tax if you buy using bitcoin in Germany
by
cryptolake
on 01/03/2018, 08:37:47 UTC
The ministry of finance has declared that bitcoin transactions will not be taxed!
Instead, Germany will regard bitcoin as the equivalent to legal tender for tax purposes when used as a means of payment, according to a new document.

For tax purposes, this means that converting bitcoin into a fiat currency or vice versa is "a taxable miscellaneous benefit." When a buyer of goods pays with bitcoin, an article of the EU's VAT Directive will be applied to the price of bitcoin at the time of the transaction, as documented by the seller, according to the document.

Board Beginners & Help
Re: tips for begginers
by
cryptolake
on 28/02/2018, 12:44:42 UTC
A few generic beginner tips that will help you to get up to speed:
1: Never invest more than you can afford to loose.
2: Buy the dips (looks easy and is quite easy, if you can resist huge green candles / FOMO)
3: Begin with trading CMC top 25 coins, to avoid to much risk in the beginning.
4: To get the best average price for long term holds, apply dollar cost averaging (buy fixed amounts each weak, and buy a bit more in case of a sudden dip)
5: Bitcointalk, youtube and Google are your friends. View and read a lot about trading to get the hang of it.
6: Do your own research on a coin. never just jump in based on some social media hype.

Hope this helps a little.

Taiwanese Central Bank Sees Future In Blockchain For Payment Systems
by
cryptolake
on 28/02/2018, 11:36:25 UTC
Yang Chin-long, the new governor of Taiwan’s central bank, indicated in a speech yesterday, Feb. 26, that the bank would be open to exploring Blockchain technologies.

At the end of January, Taiwanese capital Taipei had announced that they intended to turn into a ”smart city,” utilizing Blockchain for providing technological advances like pollution sensors and health history tracking to citizens by partnering with IOTA.

During his speech at the presidential handover ceremony, Yang Chin-long said that the central bank will be open to “[adopting] artificial intelligence technologies and big data analysis to better predict and analyze global economic conditions:”

“In addition, the bank will also try to explore the feasibility of enhancing the security and efficiency of payment systems using decentralized ledger technology [Blockchain].”

In October of 2017, Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) publicly announced its support for Initial Coin Offerings (ICO), cryptocurrencies, and Blockchain in the country in a move to counter the strict crypto regulations in China and South Korea.
