You are thinking of thermoelectric effect / cooling and it is an active type cooling the requires power

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoelectric_cooling

Basically the more heat you want to move the less efficient they become and traditional methods are better.

Love the idea of cudacoin. Been following a great while, just don't have anything to contribute usually, but this brings me out of lurk mode. Great idea!

It isn't really worth it. Although if you want to mine with nvidia you must follow the CudaMiner discussion, Christian has done wonders https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.0

You may be able to profit on new coins and maybe n scrypts / janes with some of the newer releases but I doubt it.

@Christian - Not sure why it takes so long for the --time-limit command to shut down CUDAMiner, might be worth looking into.

I used --time-limit on a Linux machine for worker hopping. There shutdown and reinitialization was really fast.

But there are still some issues under Windows in particular. Also after pressing CTRL-C... it just takes forever
for the stratum thread to terminate, it seems. Maybe it is blocking on a read call.

Christian

I have addressed these issues now in the latest commit to github. I may actually put out a new binary version tomorrow
for the Maxwell launch. Just making sure that CudaMiner doesn't crash when it encounteres a *gasp* Compute 5.0
device.

Christian

Please do tell of this Maxwell launch, I've had to relocate up into the rainforest and I'm now on a slow sat connection and very behind in news. Trying to catch up, but it is difficult. Thank you!

Apologies to be a pain, but if I were wanting to mine Yacoin or Microcoin which release [date?] would be the best and possibly what settings for an evga gtx580 ?

grab the stable release 2014-02-04 ...

scrypt-jane with N factors 12 and above should use lower letter kernel denominations. In your case the f (fermi) Kernel.  just autotune, and try some various lookup gap values, starting at -L 1 and working yourself upwards...

maybe someone else can weigh in on Microcoin...

Christian,

Thank you very much for the response and help, very much appreciate all your efforts!

I've been following for a good while but I got somewhat lost with the rapid fire kernel updates for jane and max updates so I'm unsure where we sit with which release is best for which coin / type, and possibly even settings. I also have a gtx 460 I can apply to mining but not sure if worth it. I have been mining Vert since before it took off using the 580 and 460.

Thank you. Appreciate the great cuda / nvidia community here and esp Christian's hard work.

I'm getting all boos when I do manage to connect to maxcoinpool with a gtx 580

cudaminer.exe --algo=keccak -d gtx580 -L 128 -l F1024x16 -o stratum+tcp://maxcoinpool.com:4000

These do verify on the bench. Someone mentioned getting accepts, what settings or are you still getting accepts with the pool?

Make sure you are using the latest binary released earlier today.

Oh jeez, thank you very much for that, I didn't even notice! Bright and early here in Aus and haven't had coffee yet, cheers!! That's obviously a lesson for me Smiley
