Re: wallet recovery with 12 words seed phrase
by

You could have used multibit hd (sometimes even 15 word mnemonic) or schidlbach as well.

Try to enter your seed words, click on options and check bip39. Next choose “legacy (p2pkh)” and set the derivation path to “m/0′”

or if you’re using the Schildbach app, you can use its dedicated tool https://github.com/gurnec/decrypt_bitcoinj_seed (if you have encrypted wallet backup file)

do you have .json backup file? If yes, you can try brute force by using hashcat or btcrecover

Re: old blockchain.info mnemonic (passphrase) - I LOST ALL?

Back then blockchain.info used their own mnemonic words 15, 17, 19, 21 from their own wordlist. You should search for wallet.aes.json files on your drives. With that file/files you can work on it and there will be chance to regain access to your wallet.

Re: Lost wallet password but I have the wallet.aes.json file, what can I do?

Theoretically you can try to brute force it randomly but it's gonna take a while (especially if you used special characters+numbers). If you only had at least 3-4 characters it would reduce the time of the recovery very much. If you have something on that wallet maybe you should use hashcat and try your luck. Also if you have this corrupted file form this password manager you can work on it and try to retrieve some of the data, there are some ways to do it + every piece of information is crucial in recovery process

If you have .json file there is always a chance to recover access to your wallet. You should prepare some list with password guesses/hints and try all combinations. There are several ways how to deal with it, you can try to crack the password by brute forcing it using btcrecover or hashcat. The most important thing is that you have json file

It patches a high-risk vulnerability that put 1 in 6 nodes at risk of DoS attacks, so that fix alone was pretty crucial. The default peer connection limit going up to 125 is also cool —more connections mean better network stability as more people pile in. And with all the new mempool tweaks and GUI changes, the development team is putting in a solid effort

How can i restore my wallet and get access to my funds?

Can i try any more tools (or check for any bugs) or should i start bruteforcing it and pray for luck?

To try to brute force it you should check hashcat. There are some pretty useful rules

Re: Aes.json wallet and forgot password?

Thank you for all replies.

I have some clues what the password may contain word-wise.

I have tried using the BTCRecover but I am not sure I am enough tech savvy to actually get it to work.

I have downloaded BTCRecover and I am trying to following this:
https://btcrecover.readthedocs.io/en/latest/INSTALL/

When I download Python I can't seem to find Python 3.8.5 with a MSI Installer. So I went with 3.9 and I made sure to tick the "Add Python to path". Then it asks you to insert a command, where can I insert this command 'pip3 install -r requirements.txt'?

Then it asks you to download the latest version of PyOpenCL for OpenCL 1.2 and Python 3. First I should insert the command of 'pip3 install numpy==1.9.3' in to Python by just copying it directly in to Python if I am not misunderstood?

I will then download the pyopencl‑2020.2+cl12‑cp38‑cp38‑win_amd64.whl file and navigate from cmd.exe to where I downloaded it and insert command 'pip3 install pyopencl‑2020.1+cl12‑cp38‑cp38‑win_amd64.whl'

and this for Blockchain:
https://btcrecover.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Usage_Examples/2020-05-08_Recovering_Blockchain_Wallet_Passwords/Example_Recovering_Blockchain_Wallet_Passwords/

I then test BTCRecover by using 'python run-all-tests.py -vv' command in Python to make sure it runs as supposed to?

Then there is also talk about PyCryptoDome and this example of Blockchain: https://btcrecover.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Usage_Examples/2020-05-08_Recovering_Blockchain_Wallet_Passwords/Example_Recovering_Blockchain_Wallet_Passwords/

In case you failed to recover with the use of btcrecover you can also try with hashcat. There are some useful rules that will help you with it. I can help you in this matter

Re: multibit Classic Password Issue
by

So my question is, would that be a password I chose or that Multibit assigned for me? If it's assigned then I think I'm screwed because I can't find anything saved anywhere... if I chose it myself I'll keep trying variations I've used over the years.
Definitely one you chose... MultiBit Classic, by default, creates wallets without a password. You have to explicitly add one to the wallet yourself.

If you have any experience with the command line and/or Python, you might find that btcrecover by gurnec (https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover) might be of some assistance to crack your password.

You can also use hashcat to try to recover your password. In case you were lost with command line and rules in hashcat, we can provide assistance

Re: I have 26 out of 24 mnemonic words. Am I able to brute force still?
by
cryptorecovery.io
on 10/08/2024, 21:33:22 UTC
Recovering this 26-word mnemonic phrase, assuming it follows BIP-39 and only knowing the order of 6 words, would take too much time to brute force and would be insufficient. To recover it, you should try to reduce the number of possibilities by, for example, gaining knowledge about the order of the remaining 14 words. This would significantly lower the number of possibilities and increase the chances of successfully recovering it through brute force. Otherwise the numbers are way too big

Re: Changing Hardware Wallets
by
cryptorecovery.io
on 09/08/2024, 23:58:50 UTC
I'm about to switch from a Tangem wallet to a Coldcard Q. Tangem was my first ever HW wallet, so I don't have any experience "changing wallets". Is it better practice/security to generate a new seed phrase with the new wallet, and then send my BTC over from Tangem (testing with a smaller amount of course), or should I just restore my seed phrase from when I created the Tangem wallet? Appreciate any input, thanks!

If I were you, I’d definitely look into using an open-source device like Trezor or Passport. The way to go is to have a hot wallet (or a few) for your daily stuff and a cold wallet like Trezor for the bigger crypto stash. For hot wallets it depends what you need, but you can check out options like MetaMask, Electrum or Trust Wallet (which is partially open-source).
