I tried to install the "Aliens" HTML 5 game onto the Datacoin blockchain, as shown in the very interesting Apertus.io tutorial:

To my surprise, the cost was 159DTC. Embii then informed me that this was because Apertus.io could only store data in 20 byte chunks, not 128kB chunks, so the cost was prohibitive. If they used the 128kB chunks of the getdata/senddata methods other wallets could not execute the programs from the blockchain.
Blockchain storage MUST be expensive, very expensive. 159 DTC is actually too cheap IMO.
I don't know what apertus is, but I guess they are using the OP_RETURN size to store data, I fail to see how Datacoin can be leveraged to store this kind of data in front of other (more secure) blockchains.
BTW, as of today, 34Mb of data is stored in the blockchain, besides bytestamp (I don't know what it is), there is nobody really using it.
On the development side, there is a lot of effort to put on it, I don't think any developer will pick the project as it is, too many issues,really old code (still openssl bugs on the main repo), without mentioning the Datacoin own issues with big blocks and network propagation. There is zero incentive for picking this old chain in front of bootstraping a new one, unless you are a hoarder and have millions (literally) of coins.
The chain as it is right now is : unsecure, unreliable, trivially exploitable. Be warned.

They can write the data, but no other client can read it.

Yes, this does baffle me. I thought data was stored without encryption, and that any other client could read it. We will have to redo the steps that the Apertus.io team went through to understand what went on. This seems to imply that the block explorer or DTCbrowser (or Apertus.io) must do some sort of decryption. I also wonder of they were using a client that could not do RPC for getdata. If I remember correctly the earliest datacoin-hp client could not do RPC. It was mostly for mining.

TOR is a great addition.
No one should have ever put a DNS dependency in a coin. DNS is essentially fucked up in terms of security, privacy and decentralization.

I have been following btcsuite (aka Conformal's btcd) for some time and the quality of the codebase is really good.
Schnorr signatures and transaction expiration are very nice additions.
Will follow the project for sure, it will be _interesting_ to see a coin governed by a meritocracy.

Thought: It's so fucking easy to do if you have the keys and will end all this nonsense speculation at once.

Win64 AMD gpu miner update:
With the above parameters (two posts above), the GPU driver crashes after some time and mining stops.
Too unstable to use at the moment.

I built the win64 version of the AMD gpu miner.
On start there are some errors :
Where xxx could be up to 303 and down to at least 225 (I can get the full output if needed).
Also, this :
It seems going above 1024 makes the system unstable. Also I don't know what is the worksize param.
Anyone willing to share results ?

Short answer : No.
Long answer : No.
More ellaborate answer : The only (public) AMD miner for Cryptonight is from Claymore, if he does not develop Cryptonight support there is no AMD support, period. An open source AMD cryptonight miner would be awesome.

I know we're few but please try to keep up some nodes, at least when you can spare the resources. Currently I am only connected to 5 nodes.
The memory requirements are getting huge, 4600MB now on my (24h) node, so it's not easy to have a node up all day. Most VPS don't have more than 2G/4G and most new desktop computers are still sold with 4G, so that's why we see this node scarcity.Count 1 node for Moo's pool, 1 for Minergate, 1 for the exchange (bittrex?), Smooth's bootstraping server, yours, mine. And some that may be ocasionally up.

Back from DoS land now. The router gets in some weird state where new connections can't get through, but existing ones usually stay fine.
It'll be like that till the botnet realizes it's getting only 250 IPs mining and moves away. Sorry about that.

I was able to identify a half dozen bad nodes which when blocked cause virtually all of the errors to stop. I don't want to post IP addresses, but if you are having trouble with your log file getting too big and you are able to block IPs in a firewall, PM me and I'll send you the list.
Most errors now come from three IP addresses.
Two of them belong to Minergate and the other to some russian private pool.
Minergate is mining on his own invalid chain as you can see on their block explorer.
