Got a notice today that they're selling the S9 again...   $5k USD for a single S9.

That's 12 months before they break even...

Wow.

Im also using us.east and my miners have been up and down even now.

Thanks.  Anyone else seeing this?  Three pretty major drops in hash rate and more variability than normal.

At one point cgminer even switched over to an alternate address....

Is there something going on with the us-east connection?

Twice in the last 24 hours I've noticed my hash-rate went to about 30% of normal throughput and cgminer switched me to an alternate pool address.

My miners haven't hiccuped and show normal hash-rates - but the effective hashrate on the dashboard dropped dramatically.

First occurrence was at 23:15 CST on Jan 3
Second was at 10:40 CST on Jan 4.

Its called "Luck". Keep an eye on that number on your dashboard page.
Slush had terrible luck today. 2 blocks in about 16 hours.

Yep.  If we were in Vegas we'd all be broke wiht the "luck" int the last 24 hours.  Cheesy  However two days ago (or so) I think the pool found like 10 blocks in a 6 hour period so it balances out....

Thanks.  My inclination is the same.  If it isn't broken - don't try and fix it.

Should I update Avalon firmware.

One of my Avalon 741's is running the previous firmware version.  I've got to move some cabling so as long as I will power down - should I update the firmware?

I'm cognizant that there is some risk involved - however small... ....any real reason to do this?

There was a 16 hour delay in payouts from yesterday.  Was this due to backup of transactions?

You should ask this on the slush thread, people there will have a better idea.

Can you point me to that?  I can't seem to find it.

Slushpool payout stuck "processing" for 7 hours

My payout is confirmed and listed on their "payout" screen - but its been stuck in "processing" status for 7 hours.

Why would this be?  I tried resetting my wallet.  I triple checked, quadruple checked the payout address.  I was able to receive before on my prior address.

Does your "BTC Mining Fee" rate selection affect pool payouts?

Any ideas?

Okay so I'm new....  I get it...

...but I've attempted to post a topic here.

First try :  You just posted less than 360 seconds ago - please try later.  (I didn't)

Waited 10 minutes and posted again:  You've already posted this topic.  (...but its not visible anywhere!)

Finally posted it.  Saw it in the forum.  10 minutes later?  GONE.

WTH?

Thanks.  I have it on the same strip as the miner... Although I thought that maybe it should be different due to variable power draw.

I'll read up on ground issues.  New thing to learn.  Smiley

Been running 15 hours now without a hiccup...

It was a 2.5A charger - but it was from a Cana kit - and plenty of people seemed to have issues with those.  I have a nice reliable 2.1A tablet charger on it now.  12 hours in and not a single hiccup.

I did add a script to check the ethernet connection periodically and reboot if it drops because that seems to precede the lockup.

So far - so good.

Thanks for the responses fanatic26.

Re: Beginner Problems with the Canaan Avalon 741 - Please Help

^ This is good advice.  The questions you're asking are tough to answer without writing a book on network configuration.  A techie friend should be able to sort you out in about 20 minutes.

If you're determined to do it yourself - here is what I suggest:

You can plug your laptop directly into the Controller with a lan cable.  Set your laptop or computer to use:

IP: 192.168.0.101
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS 114.114.114.114

https://canaan.io/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/C2--528x600.png

You should be use the controller interface.

THEN:  (...and only if you know how to re-write the controller flash card in case you mess this up)

Using the basic setup select DHCP networking.  Save and Apply.
Plug the controller into your network and restart it.
Use the command line console on the controller and login.  Type IFCONFIG
This is your controllers new IP address which you can use to access the console going forward.

Thanks for the reply.

I did that and the lockup still occurred.  Do I need to format the remaining partitions on the Pi's SD card that appear to be unused?

I've now switched the power supply to another 2.5A adaptor.  So far running 7 hours without a hiccup.  We'll see how it goes....

I sure wish I could find log files thought.. Any ideas?

Re: What is Voltage offset for ASICS
by

Thanks.

I only started this research because I got a "Red light" on one of them and it was running at half-rate.  Its powered with 1500W of EVGA gold PSUs (twin 750)...  Was thinking it might be power related I cut it down to -2.  No red light.  Now set it at -1 and no red light after 8 hours.  I'll let them run for 24 and then decide what to do.

I may go back to 0 again.  The units are running at 33/85C on average so not too bad....

Canaan controller (Ras Pi 3) freezing randomly
by

My controller has frozen twice in the last 24 hours (new setup).  I have the latest build.

Any suggestions on where to go to start diagnosing?  No significant error cores shown.    I can't find any logs in /sys/log on the Pi.

Thanks!

What is Voltage offset for ASICS
by
cstreit911
on 14/12/2017, 17:21:01 UTC
My guess is this throttles back the power request from the ASIC to the PSU - but is that *really*  what it does?

Having trouble finding a simple explanation.  Will lowering it lower the hash rate significantly?

Canaan's explanation is as terse as always:  "We added a Voltage Offset option for users because each AvalonMiner is different with each other because of the inclusion of so many high performance chips. The AvalonMiners are very sensitive with voltage, so the “Voltage Offset” option is used for tweaking the AvalonMiner’s voltage. If the miner works well, we suggest to not change the voltage.
And, the lower voltage offset, the lower power. So if the miner works well with -2, it just means the miner has better health."

What do they mean "works well"?  Does that mean "fast", "reliable" or something else?

Thanks!
