I have read in some posts that there is quite a bit of time wasted between when you point your miners to the Kano pool and when they actually begin mining. Is this true? If so why is that?
Nope - consider them false statements by whoever is making them, or someone with tiny miners complaining about pointing them at a normal pool.
You see your shares arriving on the workers page immediately - there's no delay showing shares arriving at the pool.

Of course if you point a tiny 2GHs miner at the pool it will take it, on average, 2hrs 16minutes to find it's first share ...

An S3 which is about 440GHs, would of course take, on average, about 37 seconds to find it's first share.
An S5 which is about 1100GHs, would take, on average, about 15 seconds to find it's first share.
An S7 which  is about 4800GHs, would take, on average, about 3.4 seconds to find it's first share.

The point of these numbers is that the starting diff is (currently) set at 4098.
It's set at that for a reason - it's easy to disrupt (or even effectively shut down) a pool that has a low starting diff or even allows a low diff when mining ... if you understand how that works - yes even antpool Tongue
I wont explain how to do it, but it is simple enough on any pool.

The settings I use here work fine with current hardware and previous generation hardware.
If you use older hardware it's a bit longer to find your first share, or if you use tiny USBs then you'll find they take a long while to find shares.

However, it's not wasted time, it's simply that shares are worth more at 4098 diff, than at 1 diff, of course, so you'll get them at a rate that is appropriate for your hardware.
Oddly enough, we don't reward a 2GHs miner the same as a 14THs miner Smiley

How about for s7?

How to get "5ND"  Huh

If you're referring to how to find what yours is at the moment, the easiest way is to use Zach Monroe's monitor at https://www.ckpoolmonitor.zachmonroe.com/. You'll need to go through a couple of steps to link an API and set up your logon, but it's a nifty way to monitor your pool performance/status...and your 5Nd is listed under the "Dashboard" for your login.

If you're just not clear on what it is, there's an explanation on the kano.is home page through this link https://kano.is/index.php?k=payout

Hope that's helpful.

Thanks.

It means you don't have any mining devices, as it says. Cgminer is just controlling software to allow your computer to control mining hardware attached to it. The computer itself doesn't do the mining.

Ok now im understand, thank  Smiley

Re: Rate my RIG

The thread now being in Altcoin...

You can mine Ethereum to make a bit of money back from that big chunk of money. Its definitively a personal PC for gaming, and not a mining rig. But i also mine with my one gaming rig to recoup (some of?)the costs. The only difference is i went for AMD (even though i much prefer NVIDIA GPU stability over AMD's many many issues) for the best profitability.

But really, i am considering something like a 1080 TI, whenever/IF as well. Specially with the VR scene blooming lately. NVidia is usually often poor. (It has been for most of my experience in the last 2+ years.)

Will try Ethereum soon after got my 1080 GTX.

Btw, can i ask you about Ethereum soon?

Re: Miner configuration with different pool?
by
cucumi
on 13/06/2016, 08:19:39 UTC
You can set three different pools. The miner will always run on the first pool and the other two would be backups I case the first pool dropped out. You should see a setting on the configuration page saying "failover" you can change that so it balances the work across al three pools or set up a quota so it does the same amount of work on each etc.

You will get more errors if you share the miners work across all three and obviously you will see less of a payout from each pool as the hashrate will be shared. So 6Th/3 would be approx 2th per pool.

Thanks for explanation  Cheesy

here is a photo  two s-7's on the same controller running with 3 pools

Re: Rate my RIG

Hello guys, im going to setup my RIF with the following spec:

Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII EXTREME
RAM: RAM Trident Z 3400MHz 16GB X4
Proc: Intel Core i7-6700k
HD: Samsung 950 PRO M.2 512GB
PSU: Corsair AX860i
Cooler: Corsair H115i
GC: Asus ROG STRIX-GTX1080-O8G (still waiting)

Yes i know mining with PC is not good decision and I already have S7 antminer.

This RIG i want use it for gaming, in the same time why not use it for mining right?

So what do you think guys with this spec, good for mining?

You're posting in the bitcoin mining section... It's a really bad idear to mine bitcoins with your CPU/GPU, you'll use a lot of power and destroy your rig while making allmost nothing (maybe not even enough to make a withdrawal from the pool you're mining on).
You'll have better luck mining some altcoins, i found this table for the GTX960 http://cryptomining-blog.com/tag/asus-strix-gtx-960/ you'll have to make your own benchmark, and see if there's a coin worth mining with that GPU of yours.

Thanks for suggestion Smiley
