What's your opinion on these index funds methodology? (CCI30, BIT20, C20, etc.)
by
cyyap95
on 07/05/2018, 19:23:11 UTC
A quick comparison of BIT20 vs. CCI30 since last year Jan till recent:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bcxsYCvJ9rOtLvdCpZBSVt9cKQvhUrzHZ7m7GUIqmg8/edit#gid=266736395

As you can see from this 2 fund, both performed well in the comparison period, BIT20 got 5339% return, CCI30 have 3242% return and Bitcoin have only 913% return. The BIT20 have best Sharpe ratio.

Their methodology can be found on their website, I'm not posting links but you can easily find it on Google.

Just wanted to know what's your opinion on following their methodology or something similar? (here I mean adopt their strategy, not invest in them.) I know that there are only limited historical data to do analysis and comparison, but we can easily tell there's a statistical significance on the performance of the fund in compare to Bitcoin.

Would you adopt the strategy? and Why?

How do you store all your Altcoins to ensure maximum security?
by
cyyap95
on 27/01/2018, 11:15:22 UTC
Don't ask me why I don't store in exchanges because I trust myself more than exchanges.
(Reference: Coincheck suspended withdrawals.)

I have a pair of Trezor, and a pair of Ledger Nano S, but there are a lot more altcoins that can't be stored within these hardware wallets.
For example, I have XVG, ADA, IOTA, XMR, and etc.

They do have an open-sourced wallet, do you install them into your "alternative" desktop/laptop with virtual windows separating each of them to ensure maximum security?

This is how you invest as an average investor, a portfolio that balance risk and return. Click here to my blog article.

Backtesting this strategy yield more than 2100% in the 2017 year, which is 1.6 times more than Bitcoin alone.

Re: What do you do when you are over 50% lose on your trades?
by

Why do newbs have such mindset "never sell their coin when it's in negative"?

You know your negatively performing coins are not going to recover because they failed at the most fundamental level,
they are meant to be just a pump and dump coin, not selling your loss just because they're in lost and hoping for a recovery is plain stupid.

You don't sell something only if you believe they are a good project from the fundamental level but experience a temporary fluctuation.

You should start from learning, then reconsider your investment strategy, here's a blog post that I share a portfolio that I believe is best for the average investor.

What's the investment strategy behind your portfolio in 2018? Here's mine.

Hello guys, I'd like to discuss with you about the strategy for investing cryptocurrency in 2018,
if your friend came up to you with $100,000 that he's willing to lose in the crypto market, how would you advise him to invest and why?

Here's the strategy I'm currently adopted in my own portfolio, I diversify in the top 30 altcoins and invested proportionally to their market cap,
it's basically a market cap weighted portfolio, and by this portfolio, I aim to achieve a better performance than just Bitcoin (benchmark.)

Update: I wrote an article about one of my favorite portfolios that I think it's a good start for the most average investor.

It yields 2160% in backtesting for the year of 2017 with the historical data, read here: https://josephyap.me/balanced-cryptocurrency-portfolio-average-investor/

Re: Get 16% more Bitcoin by selling B2X before the SegWit2X fork!

Congratulations to anyone who did this! SegWit2X is canceled, BT2 (SegWit2X) contract has lost almost 90% of its value in a night and should be gone to no value as it won't exist anymore, so for anyone who sold their BT2 contract, 16% more Bitcoin  Grin

Re: If you want to sell B2X (SegWit2X Coin), you can do now.

This is a good opportunity for people who are ready to face some risks, but for me it's kinda too uncertain - there's still one month before the fork and a lot can change, maybe something will force exchanges to change their stance on SegWit2x, maybe the fork itself will get canceled or it will be so disruptive that it will lead to some loss of funds for exchanges. For example, Bitfinex credited only 0.85 of BCH for each Bitcoin due to their mess up with margin positions. Since there are so many parties involved in SegWit2x, I'm sure that its price will be supported and even pumped for long so most people would be able to dump it like it happened with BCH. I don't see any need to face risks, unless you want to trade as soon as markets will open to catch some pump.

Well if you read up the policies, it's actually stated that BT1 will turn into BTC no matter the fork happened or not. Personally, I didn't do it because I do not trust exchanges, so I don't feel like putting all my Bitcoin into the platform, but I'm sure there are people who trust exchanges, for example, people who lend swap in Bitfinex, this is an opportunity for them.

I guess you probably misunderstood a little, I've friends who do the same thing during Bitcoin Cash fork, and it works fine, the one you said about them crediting 0.85 BCH per BTC is actually a different case here.

Hello guys, I've written a guide for those that wanted to sell their B2X (SegWit2X Coin) before the fork actually happen.
At the time of writing, you can get about 0.13~0.15 BTC per BTC you already owned, which is a pretty good deal for those like me only wants Bitcoin (Core).

Read my blog here: https://josephyap.me/you-can-sell-your-b2x-before-the-fork-for-16-more-btc-now/

This kind of thread is completely retarded, sorry for being straight.
People who had their Bitcoin stored in Coinbase are now yelling for not issuing their Bitcoin Cash, and planning to sue Coinbase for causing them an opportunity to sell BCH at peak price.

I'd recommend you to learn independence thinking, you can't blame everyone for everything. (Most people do not appreciate the advice that helped them but blame those which didn't.  Huh)

I can't wait for Trezor to release their BCH wallet access, so I use the 24-word to find my private key for the address I store the BCH, then I restore to Electron Cash, and I sold it to some locals for $409 each, also sold some of them at ViaBTC at around 0.13 BTC each. Then I buy Bitcoin with all the extra cash I got from this giveaway.

Re: Was Bitcoin Cash a Pump Dump?

This is really crazy. I checked the exchange rates in Bittrex, and right now it is going at 1 BCH = BTC0.34650000. In Cryptopia also, the rates are quite high at 1 BCH = BTC0.25856500. But still the spread between the two exchanges is very wide.

So far these 2 platform does not allow deposit of BCC, so all I can say is the price from a closed market isn't meaningful. ViaBTC, the only exchanges I was able to deposit and sell my BCC, the price is at 0.155BTC/BCC now.

Been trading there about six months and got the BTC Cash showing up but it shows the wallet as offline since 8/1.  Why do I keep reading how Bittrex is the biggest trader of BTC Cash?

I've been able to sell my BCC into BTC in Bittrex and withdraw it successfully. They do not allow BCC deposit, but if your BTC was in their platform before the BCC fork, they'll give you your BCC.

Ended up loosing big money today, BCC started rising like crazy, brought 37 BCC's (some @ $530 and remaining @ 0.233 BTC) on kraken.

It went all the up to $811 on kraken and now falling endlessly, $310 at the time of writing this post.

My net balance of over $23000 is down to less than half at a little over $11,000.
There is nothing you can do now,the best thing you can do is to wait for sometime and see how the values goes,if you really check the markets where they are listed, only bittrex and kraken had these mad rallies, but the rest of the exchanges had a stable price when you check coin market cap,i never sell coins at a loss, but the risk is higher here, either you can wait for a while or sell off at a loss .

"never sell coins at a loss"

Exactly, HODL and youll get your money back eventually...err hopefully, maybe tonight even Smiley

This is so wrong, never buy in any position without setting a take-profit and stop-loss price, even the billion investors have stop-loss when entering a position, the "never sell at a loss" idea is simply a joke.

Re: Kraken & Bittrex bitcoin cash current status?

Ok how do I check whether bcc it has reached 20 confirmations?

http://blockdozer.com/insight/ - Bitcoin Cash explorer

Hi,

Has anyone able to generate a deposit address at the above exchanges for bitcoin cash?

Or is there a way to get notified on my phone about this status from kraken or bittrex?

No, BCH deposits on exchanges are not available yet. I read somewhere on this forum viabtc accepts Bitcoin Cash deposits though. But you have to send your ID for verification...

Use fake ID, they just document whatever you upload without checking it manually. They probably only check when you going to use bank deposit/withdrawal

Has anyone been able to get any Bitcoin off these exchanges?

I fear you have all been scammed.

To be honest, I don't care if they scammed, ViaBTC is one of the main players behind this BCC thing if he scammed the BCC we deposit it's actually stupid for him to do so, which is like declaring the end of BCC.

Well I just signed up for ViaBTC, completed the first ID verification. Waiting for the 2nd.

But it gave me a BCC address to deposit. Gonna try in a sec.

You will be able to sell but not be able to withdraw any btc until your deposit get 20 confirmations (I think). My btc are stuck there right now. 20 bch blocks might take several days at current pace.

That's right, but at least you know you got the BTC with actual value instead of wortless BCC
