I just saw that www.copy.com is testing CudaDrive Beta where cloud storage will create Disk Drive and not just folder.
It would be great to have simple "Sia Drive (S:)" and some credit (SC coins) in my account. Then when I copy something to this Drive it will simple deduct some SC from my account.
What is next step for Sia from user point of view?
The point of Sia is to be a back-end, high-speed, dirt cheap, decentralized, secure database. At least that's why I'm pursuing the technology.
I know and it is great. However Sia or some pioneer must start with first application for end users.
If somebody would like to create "Sia Drive (S:)" app instead of folder, would it be possible to start now in this direction?
Will we have some hub with programs using sia?
Sia is open source and they accept pull requests, so anyone can join helping to develop sia itself or to develop nessecary interfaces to be used by whatever you want to build ontop
Sia is in very early stage, tho the current protocol is already working. It will engage more and more people - think of an onion. The enduser and hence an enduser application will probably done more towards the end than now in the beginning. Think of a car that can barely drive and you start to ask for a better radio
Hi, after i updated, my client looks like this, and nothing happens if i click elsewhere. if i start the 0.3.3.1 everything is fine. firewall is open. i also tried to delete wallet folder, a now wallet file is created, but ui is still not usable. i waited 10 minutes, nothing changed. i also tried win32 bit 0.3.3.2, the same behavior.
The miners are securing the network and keeping it up. For the actualy development of the coin and of the storage feature, there is no difference on who mines which coins.
Who mines which coins doesn't make a difference... but the total number of miners and hashrate do.
We are currently at around 250 GH/s
Would it make a difference if we "only" had 50 GH/s ?
I would say no.

Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Launches June 7th, 2015
I do believe that others however are interested in working on Sia miners. We are willing to help anyone who wishes to release their own open source miners and mining pools, we're just not going to be making them ourselves during the forseeable future.
Outsource the work... don't leave it to chance.
Siacoin is about decentralized storage and not about mining. The miners are securing the network and keeping it up. For the actualy development of the coin and of the storage feature, there is no difference on who mines which coins. As long as there are no big monopolies - who cares? Whoever is able to read the sia source code and to optimize the miner can do so and will be able to make profit of that - thats a fact that wont change - that fact does not depend on the devs ALSO developing a miner.

Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Launches June 7th, 2015
Hey guys. It is with regret that I say that we aren't going to be doing anymore miner releases or patches in the near future, and we are dropping support for miner binaries.
We've decided on this because we've been spending too much time trying to get the miners to compile, and too much time dealing with bugs and dependencies we don't understand. Rather than try to get into the world of cross-compiling opencl, we're going to be spending our time over the next few weeks working on what really counts - decentralized storage.
The code for the miners is still open source, and it works well on Linux. Furthermore, linux is a free OS and runs on most architectures. We're sorry that mining isn't highly accessible to everyone, but it's something that is currently out of reach for the Sia core team. I do believe that others however are interested in working on Sia miners. We are willing to help anyone who wishes to release their own open source miners and mining pools, we're just not going to be making them ourselves during the forseeable future.
Sorry for the disappointing news. On the other hand, going forward we're going to be focusing a lot more on the storage components of Sia. We're excited for what's next, and hope you like what we're working on.
Good choice. Appreciate it!

Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Launches June 7th, 2015
I opened my wallet today to buy more siacoin and I noticed my balance now shows 0KS. I haven't downloaded an update or messed with anything because of some problems people have been having. I had previously found the wallet.dat file and copied it onto my desktop as a backup. I just replaced the wallet.dat file that was in sia with the one I had on my desktop and it still says 0KS. It also is showing a different address. How is this possible? Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks
was it showing a new address before you replaced it with the one from your desktop? or did you happen to notice that?
yeah it was showing 0KS and a new address before I replaced it
i would simply zip and backup the full wallet directory
I didn't backup the full directory but a couple weeks ago I did backup the wallet.dat file located in (on a mac you need to right click and select show package contents on the electron app first): Contents/Resources/app/Sia/wallet. I didn't also backup the wallet.backup file is that what is causing this? I just replaced the wallet.dat file that's located in Sia/wallet with the one I backed up a couple weeks ago. Still no balance though. Does that mean somehow someone got my private keys and sent the coins somewhere else? Or both my wallet.dat files are corrupted?
i doubt someone has your keys
doublecheck that your wallet has more than just 1 peers (it usually starts with 1 peer and builds up over time)
also ensure to replace the wallet file and then start the wallet (i doubt it will work to replace it while wallet is running)
