since GPU mining for scrypt coins isn't bitcoin, aren't posts here about it in the wrong place? shouldn't they be posted in the altcoins section? So of course GPU mining is looked down on. it is either unprofitable or being talked about in the wrong place. (Bitcoin Snob here)

Mining on an auto-exchanging scrypt multipool, I get daily payouts in Bitcoin.  Roll Eyes
So I was not really aware that I am technically not a Bitcoin miner any more, until you pointed it out.  Cry
Sniff, sob, cry...

UPDATE: But as Beastlymac observed, still a mining rig, right ?

absolutely. Stop giving a flying fuck, this thread was all about GPUS when I hit the board 2012. Fuck it, I still post GPU stuff. It's still a rig, it's still to the spirit of this thread - I found it pretty lame when people came up with lame asics, block erupters and stuff. There is little to no work on these machines to be found, hence no need to upload images of it. I loved the custom cases and crazy fan builds on chairs, let's not ban gpus from this thread.

I love this thread, for the old gpu-times sake, I'll post what I'm onto right now:

It's going to be an altcoin rig with GPUs (2x 7950 for the time being). It's not finished, but it will have a nice air circulation (there are some plates missing for leading the airflow in the right direction). More to come  Cool

to get back to that sweet idea, I build a small setup with 4 fans, sadly different in power, speed etc

here you can see the fans

http://i.imgur.com/Qji5V1p.jpg
the upper left is really powerful, alot more than the others

built this

http://i.imgur.com/jmr1ZcO.jpg

fired it up

http://i.imgur.com/jTWBUcy.jpg

what can I say: it works, but the setup is not good for comparison. The entry is 24x24 cm² and the exit is 8x8cm².
A1*c1 = A2*c2 -> c2 = A1/A2*c1 = 9*c1.
So one would expect the air to flow 9 times as fast as it does at the entry. It doesn't, its actually kinda lame. The powerful fan just pushed the air right out of the weakest of my fans (yeah, who would have thought that?  Roll Eyes ). I think when letting the fans suck the air out I would not get that effect of air moving the wrong direction, or maybe not that bad. Maybe I should try this with just one fan, doing the same in a smaller scale or get 4 equal fans.

Any thoughts? Smiley

Yay!!!
You made it!!!
I'll PM you, but shouldn't the output be larger than the input (the other way around?)? And where is it pointing to?

finally a prototype Smiley The fans are pointing in the direction of the tunnel (pushing air in), fixed my post Smiley

Edit: The fans are pushing the air into the narrowing tunnel, so the output is the small end. I didnt make the middle (constant) section nor the output (widening) part, I thought this would not make a difference or have a positive effect. I might be wrong

crazy but nice Cheesy

you could also try a bigger fan, like this:

http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/Luefter/Ueber-140mm-Luefter/BitFenix-Spectre-PRO-230mm-Luefter-schwarz::17899.html

230mm diameter, circular case, 264,0 m³/h airflow.

thanks! Smiley

Those are actually not that good, 4 times a 120mm fan would get me like 400m³/h, with a cheap Arctic Cooling F12. The reason I used those fans were I got them off ebay pretty cheap (like 1-2€ each).
I plan on using nine of these:

Fan size: 92mm 55CFM, 32dBa, 3000rpm. Those should push some serious air I hope.

Anymore thoughts? Could anyone explain me why I need the exit (the left side) and not just leave it open after flowing throug hmy to be cooled units? http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18adxj7fzzmaxjpg/k-bigpic.jpg

...
Hi!!!

The exit has the same principle as the rear of a rocket engine - for a moment let's forget the fans and think only in passive air circulation. Since the hot air expands, it will hit the walls.
But those walls angle will make it go out, instead of returning.
Since the air exits, it will create a very low pressure in the middle, pushing the air from the back. Wink

Oh, now I get it. I should do more testing Cheesy. Btw, I ordered some temperature sensors (two), only need something to heat in the middle section. Should be fun Smiley
I'm thinking about using a big-ass-fan this http://www.amazon.com/Lasko-3733-20-Fan-Box/dp/B00002ND67/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376038212&sr=8-1&keywords=boxed+fan
but I can't find the equivalent of a boxed fan here in germany, only round ones (I want a boxed one!)

A rig I made about 6m ago.. 2 PC's in one 4U custom rack.
those look like hd 5830 xtreme.. did you disassemble the fans from the cards? Couldnt really tell by the pictures. How is your temperature? how is the noise? Couldnt get my fans of the cooler, they are like glewed to it!
Also i wonder what those crossfire cables are good for..

Guys, can we stick to the thread? I want charts, Doomsday and moon postings. No more HF, segwit and bullshit posts.

What do you think about the price movement? I for once thought the uprise stopped and would slowly decrease. But since we bounced back @415 yesterday I'm not quite sure about that

Yes, wishful thinking stopping the various FUD, quasi-off topic and trolling.

I personally have little clue about the price direction on the short term.. with the various ongoing price manipulations that seem to be occurring and even the seemingly relatively speaking low volume.

It would be nice to get some high volume upward price action to bring us past $467, but I am having my doubts about how long it is going to take for such an event to occur because when we have fairly low trade volume with upward and downward girations, we have the sense that there is not a whole hell-a-va lot of passion out there regarding bitcoin pumping (to get us to move upwards), and when low volume is sustained, then the price is being controlled by a fairly small amount of capital, which means that BTC prices can be driven down with a few thousand coins dumped over a few hours.

Surely, the whales need more than a few thousand coins and capital to control bitcoin prices, but relatively speaking, it is not a lot when the volume is so low on an ongoing basis.

Accordingly, if there is high trade volume with upward price movement (for example, averaging more than 15k coins per day on Bitstamp for more than a week), then that level of trade volume signifies that we have a pretty decent BTC price battle going on (and some passion in the fight between the bears and the bulls)... otherwise if there is not a passionate battle, then little by little bears can control and manipulate and surprise with dumps...

To me, I kind of assess that we have not experienced such a sustained BTC price battle for more than 8 weeks... so can become a bit nerve racking.. to witness the bears kind of controlling and the FUD receiving too much attention... and the passion for upward movement is not quite high enough to cause upward umph.

Prior to 8 weeks ago, we had about 20 weeks of a decent and sustained trade volume which really was a price battle that brought us to our current approximate floating price (largely floating between the $360s and the $460s during this kind of waiting and see period.. maybe even a kind of consolidation range.. at least for the moment, until passion increases... which will come, sooner or later.. hopefully sooner...  Wink Wink Wink).

Thank you! I think that sums up the past few weeks. Like you said, the volume is quite low. I'll see if the price will drop a little further

I think we'll see 410 again, this week. You guys think it could slip to 370-380 for a day and recover quickly? Too much support? I'd love that idea of buying them cheap

Lets be serious. Without china taking down the ban we wont be seeing moon-like prices for a long time.
Positive news like businesses accepting BTC will have small impact on price. It will jump it a bit but then it will slowly dump again.

Eventually we will see 1000 again but without china accepting Btc it will most likely take a year or two

I'll be here to requote, just in case. Of course you can requote me, too!

PS: please define "a long time"
