I wonder why Nick Szabo suggested removing TLS  Huh

It was pretty clear in his tweet.  He did not think that Dero should rely on a trusted third-party, but each user can use exclusive nodes to work around that for now.  It should be noted that TLS was an additional feature added to help prevent mass traffic analysis. Captain stated in his reply to Nick Szabo that another solution will be researched after SC/DVM implementation.  The start of the 2019 Roadmap.

TLS implemented - not in the fucking code.

Ultrafast optimizations verifies Dero bulletproofs 10 times faster than other/original bulletproof implementations.

These guys claim they got bulletproofs 10x faster, are they better than nchain?

DO NOT TRUST THIS PROJECT

We appreciate your concern, please review the code more carefully.

How does Dero's use of uncles differ from Ethereum's use of uncles?

Does Ethereum also thwart 51% attack?

1. "Uncles" are accepted in Dero.

2.  https://www.crypto51.app/about.html

Great work with Dero. The coin looks excellent. Will smart contracts internal transactions scale as well as normal transactions?

Will your smart contracts be based on the Ethereum VM?

Sorry, no details yet about smart contracts.

Serena tweeted this a few days ago!! Don't know why nobody realized!!

Atlantis comes out tomorrow or Tuesday!!! Load your bags or you are going to miss out!! Dero's marketcap is only 6 million!! it's going to multiply like crazy!

Captain:
Will be releasing Atlantis testnet in less than 48 hrs. We plan to use snapshot of existing mainnet chain for tests, confirmations and verifications.
Tests would be running for week and users can evaluate everything before moving to mainnet.

So when will the mainnet actually be up and running?  A week after the testnet?

I assume we'll be able to CPU mine on the testnet?

Yes, one week after testnet.  Yes, CPU mining in testnet.

so only speculation, as often from half of that thread!
I read the forum every day from page 7.
dev never clearly confirmed the resistant asic, nor did it ever appear in the roudmap.
(as with other coins I watch)
Mining Dero I started when it was possible mine a CPU 5 Dero a day.
So I wonder if the original community that Dero supported in the beginnings can will be able to return?!

What date is "day 45"?  If you count April 20+45 days that would be about June 5th.  So you're committing to that now?  And for the full release, not some kind of alpha.

A little skepticism is always prudent in crypto, but you seem to be taking this awfully personally. What are you going to do if DERO does a beta release on June 10th? Point on the sexual molestation doll where DERO hurt you?  Roll Eyes

Just trying to get some actual facts here.  Is that a problem, fanboi?

If you notice, the Dero lead has seen my question and chose not to respond.  Instead he "lol"ed your stupid comment.  Says a lot for this project.

I'll ask again:  When is the full Atlantis release going to be live (the full release, not an alpha or even a beta)?  Including posting of source code.

I'm not part of the DERO team.

Monthly Update posted May 22, 2018.  In the last update the lead dev stated that "in another 15 days Atlantis will be released for alpha-tests and Hopefully before next monthly update we would be on Atlantis."

Code will not likely be released until (1) they complete the incorporation process, and (2) Atlantis testing has been completed.  Why release test code?

I don't believe that DERO (as a whole) will be out of alpha until smart contracts are implemented.  I believe there is a difference between DERO Alpha and the Atlantis release.

Hope that helps.

Is DERO ASIC resistant?

It will be with the Atlantis release in a few weeks.

Is it possible to have the view key of premine address?

How about reading the first post - the public view key for the premine is there.

EDIT - oops, no, that is their PGP key. I do know this was discussed earlier in the thread so just search through it.

EDIT 2 - found it for you: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2525508.msg30581078#msg30581078

That is for the C version of the chain.  New chain = new key (premine unlocked to certain height).  Will have to wait for Atlantis release.

PoW algorithm is not mentioned in this update
Does it mean that in this update there will be no change of PoW algo and Dero will remain ASICs-oriented coin ?

No, just that the PoW algo was not mentioned.

Its the first time i see an official coin site without a link for download wallet....... seriosly....
Is this a joke ?

O official website is a bit outdated, they must admit. It's missing also the source for the new alpha releases, the Discord group and the Telegram one, and some page optimizations (high CPU usage). But as far as I know, they told the page is being reformulated (please, confirm if I'm right, or correct me).

This is correct.  The website is going through an overhaul.  With a little bit of research one would find this link:  https://forum.dero.io/t/dero-wallet-in-one-minute/110

The project is currently in Alpha.  Within 16 days, the newest release (named Atlantis) will go live, which will later bring with it updates to the website, whitepaper, wallet, and mining requirements.  Please be patient as the dev team finalizes the transition to Atlantis.

Will there be special mining software provided on the launch of Atlantis?

That has been asked several times on Slack/Discord/Telegram.  We will not have an answer until Atlantis is slated for release.  They have assured us that we will have ample time to set up our rigs before it goes live.

Or you can choose to support the network by continuing to mine.   Grin  Apparently, that is poor business advice though.

So cryptocurrencies are worthy of our charity, now? I ask this (rhetorical) question because it costs me $0.86/day to run my 1.9kH/s cryptonight rig which would only bring in $0.30 in DERO...

Also, my rinky-dink 1.9kH/s would hardly be noticed on a >300MH/s network, so I think it's safe to say the DERO network isn't missing me too much.

Finally, keep in mind that EVERY crypto relies on small time CPU and GPU miners to get started; sine qua non. In my opinion, it is more a case of the coin having a responsibility to support us, rather than the other way around.

I long since gave up mining DERO, but I am somewhat hopeful that the Atlantis release will justify the choice to not fork off the CN ASICs. Consequently, DERO still has my support in the form of me not dumping my coins.

This project doesn't owe you anything and dumping your coins will only hurt you.  You can choose to support the network or not.  It's okay to be a fairweather miner.  Like I said, it is your choice.

Think I should switch from mining it until that update comes?

Yes, it's your gpu vs their asic. You will always loose. You can mine monero7 for now.

So are the block rewards halving every year for 8 years till we get to the yearly infinite inflation rate?

The block reward is smoothly varying

What does that mean lol Tongue is that a fancy way of saying its going to halve every year Wink

Probably similar to Monero's block rewards.

Block reward = (M - A) * 2-20 * 10-12, where A = current circulation.

Will GUI wallets be part of the Atlantis release?
It would be great of the community to vote for the speedy development of a normal wallet.

A normal wallet for me is CLI.  GUI wallets were on the roadmap from the beginning, slated to be released by end of Q2 2018.

Regarding the small absolute difference in price now between $0.35 and $0.50, it depends on your approach.  It's still a big percentage difference.  Let's suppose we have $100 to invest.  That would buy 285 coins at the lower of these two prices, and 200 at the higher price of $0.50.  Fast forward to a hypothetical time when the coins are worth $100, and the difference is not trivial at all.  The small differences in price now magnify out.

It is only trivial if your aim is to acquire a certain number of coins within a certain time window (say the next month or whatever) and you will buy that number at whatever the price happens to be.  The cost difference now it won't make any difference a few years down the line when the price has increased substantially.

But how many people are investing using the second approach?  Speaking for myself, I have a certain amount to invest, and I am trying to do it as wisely as possible.  I bet that is most people's approach in fact.  Anyway, for myself these small differences that are big in percentage terms do matter but I try not to be sad about them... there is more to life isn't there?

All very true. I'm actually an example of the rare second approach and have a plan to get to N number of coins before Smart Contracts are ready. Viewed through that prism, and when I fully expect DERO to be well into the hundreds of dollars in the long term, the difference between $0.35 and $0.50 is indeed trivial.

You are absolutely correct that the percentage difference is quite large though, and that I'm probably one of very few investing and mining with that particular approach.

It's a little bit of a catch-22 I think - with higher volume the price would be less volatile, however I suspect that by the time DERO hits one or more of the big exchanges it will be far too late to buy at a price measured in cents.
