Appreciate smooth is having some family issues at the moment, but I'm really starting to regret putting my money into a platform where it seems that there is only 1 developer as a point of failure.

Bittrex AEON deposits are currently not available due to 'maintenance' - are there any other exchanges currently open for business?

There are no alternative exchanges available, Bittrex is the only one.

it is very important to keep it alive, this currency credibility is there...

Agreed - no wonder the value is falling right now; still down! I've emailed bittrex regarding this.

The wallet.shiftnrg.org wallet has been down for the past hour - the page loads (albeit very slowly) but the websocket keeps getting closed before being able to make any transactions. It's more than a bit irritating given that it's the only mean of accessing funds in my wallet...

So what you're saying is that all gamblers are degenerates? Well sorry to tell you bud but bitcoin is a gamble as well, maybe to a lesser extent but still a gamble. Where is the proverbial reference line of degeneracy?

At the end of the day it goes without saying put in what you can afford to lose, anything beyond that is stupid. Degenerates are immensely stupid people and making sweeping comments such as you just did is a tell tale sign of an immensely stupid person.

Anyone know if a remote node exists yet?

I keep all my crypto assets on an extremely underpowered netbook, which seems to be incapable of adequately running a local node.

What annoys me is that people are jumping on these meme coins and driving their price through the roof instead of actually supporting coins that have something new to offer.

Most educated people will agree: XMR and AEON

I can see XMR being big - I've bought into it myself. What has AEON got going for it? I've not heard much about it.

10% Bitcoin
35% Ethereum
45% Monero
5% NEM
5% SHIFT

I'd really like to say that's it for now - but unfortunately I think I'm hooked.

I was surprised that the news around the Microsoft led Ethereum group didn't hike the price at all.

Any thoughts?

Re: Windows 10 adoption rate is stagnating

Windows 10 would have been great if it were not for the spying, forced buy in to Bing/OneDrive ecosystem and the fact that the start menu is by default plagued by advertising; even on the Enterprise version of the OS, you've got the likes of candy crush being paraded through the menu. Yes all of the above can be rectified fairly easily, but it's more effort than I should have to put in; you can also be fairly certain that with every update there's something new that you have to tame.

That's why I moved to Linux on the desktop after Windows 10 came out, after years of using it as a server operating system. On the desktop it's not as polished as Windows, there are things that it can't do - but at least I have complete control over everything.

Re: Secure my altcoin?
by

I recently had a bad experience keeping my coins on an exchange - the other day I needed to do an exchange as quickly as possible unfortunately Kraken was completely down for over an hour and I lost a significant amount of money.

I don't normally keep my coins on an exchange - but did in this instance in anticipation of this particular trade.

In general hardware wallets are a great choice - although it can be difficult with a rather large portfolio of alts. I personally keep my coins on an encrypted CentOS laptop, which has been locked down with iptables to only allow outbound communication with the relevant networks.

^ Might be overkill though - depends on how much you are looking to secure.

Monetising a VPS
by
dcrdev
on 14/05/2016, 14:12:52 UTC
I have a subscription to a particular service that also grants me free credits to their cloud platform i.e. I can fire up a fairly powerful VPS at no extra cost. I have no practical use for that element of the subscription and was wondering if anyone could make any recommendations on how to monetise it?

I'm wondering if there are any up and coming altcoins which are still at the stage where it is profitable to do CPU based mining?

Thanks in advance

As title states I want to sell the domain spy.pm - I've been holding on to it a while and looks like I wont be using it.

Price is £20 via BTC.

Will transfer first if you have verified feedback otherwise I will not, but I'm open to using an escrow service.

Thanks for looking!
