New update on Twitter - https://twitter.com/RealMooncoin

Nothing can stop us going to the moon!

Welcome back DeaconBoogie, star developer of MOON!  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Well, I am certainly not a star developer but... thanks!

I'm back and getting things back on track here.

The upcoming release will have a greater "release window" so that more of the exchanges and such can get on-board. The last release was very hurried due to the enormity of the exploit.

It took a bit longer, but Mac OS X wallet is now updated to version 1.862.1 courtesy of forum superstar Mac-jockey Maxpower!

Mac users, please download immediately: http://download.mooncoin.info/

(The Windows wallet was updated last night, so it's already available.)

Before fork, better fix KGW exploit: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=552895.0

Already on it. Coordinating with pool operators and exchange folks shortly.

Looks like we'll be forking harder and sooner than previously thought... LOL!

Deaconboogie,
Do you have an ETA on the release of the new wallet?  I ask because I've been planning a Mooncoin giveaway (along with a step-by-step video lesson) to my email newsletter as a teaching tool to help bring non-technical users into cryptocurrency.

Given the tech skill level of most of the people on my newsletter is pretty low, I want to make things as simple as possible and so I'd like to avoid forcing them to update their wallets too soon after they get started.

I'd also appreciate it if you could make sure to include a self-expanding .exe again this time as you did with the last update (or just link directly to the mooncoin-qt.exe) because making my students have to download and install a third-party application just to be able to access the wallet app is a very big hurdle for a lot of them and I want to make things as easy as possible.

People who have minimal skills and understanding of technology can be very easily discouraged by even small hurdles, so I want to keep things as simple as possible for them so they can gain confidence and knowledge with crypto.

Thanks!

The new wallet will be released at the same time as the fork. Yes, this does mean that there will be a hard fork, just like Doge did. I hate to do it, but we're sort of stuck with it.

I have a stable Windows build environment now (after about six tries of various combinations of Boost, OpenSSL, mingw, etc) and can built my own Windows wallets. Mac wallets still need some know-how. Maxpower, a user here who did our last wallet, had no trouble building our code on the Mac, so I'll either engage him or try myself.

We're shooting to have this done by April 15th.

Been trying to build for months off and on... Followed the instructions to the letter and on any build, I always get the same exact error message when I try to run the otherwise cleanly compiled executable:

What am I doing wrong here?

Windows 7 x64 build environment which is freshly installed in a VM.

Not crashing here. Make sure your build environment and project file are ok.

As I said, it's a clean build environment. Fresh Windows 7 install. Followed the first post to the letter. Compiles clean, but any coin I compile produces similar errors.

Unexpected database maintenance last night is keeping the Mooncoin site down. I have had to re-build the block explorer index which anyone who has ever used Abe can tell you is an absolute time consuming son-of-a-b... Thank god I'm not trying it against the BTC blockchain. That would take weeks.

Re: [ANN][BETA][EXCHANGE][REALTIME] CoinEX realtime exchange

This is a good time to remind people of the importance of paper wallets.

We made an easy to follow tutorial for cryptocoin users here: http://mooncoin.info/?p=129

It's written for Mooncoin but the same principle works for BTC and anything else.

CoinEx was (and may still be) a great exchange. They were the first to list MOON (my coin) after launch and I've enjoyed using their platform as it was fast and stable. Hopefully they bounce back soon!

I like the idea of paper wallets, but really this is my money, the future of everyone's wealth, I just don't like the idea of that being on paper, it's too easy to get messed up or even worse, I can only implement so many security features into a paper wallet, but a digital wallet that is not on my pc or smart phone a actual digital wallet that if it is stolen, I have the back up on a cold storage device that I can later back up on a new digital wallet I buy at the store, while the thief has to struggle for a thousand years trying to brute force my stole wallet since I had it encrypted with something fierce and layered.

I like the idea of using a paper wallet to transfer money to a family or friend, or donation at church, homeless or fundraiser for school, but to keep my vault of coins on? no thanks, we can do even better.

Where thou are you Digital Wallet Stick Thingamajig...

If your digital (or paper) wallet is encrypted, and you die or become disabled, then your bitcoin just disappears?

A paper wallet in a fire safe, with redemption instructions in your will, seems like a good choice for moderate amounts of BTC. For larger amounts you've gotta do something more complicated, though. Or actually trust someone with your BTC.

Of course, this assumes you give a crap about what happens if you die or become disabled.

Paper wallets are like bearer bonds. Print them, laminate, and tuck in a fire safe or safe deposit box.

(For those who don't know... When you deposit into a paper wallet address, the transaction to the address goes into the blockchain. When you load the private key into your on-line wallet, the wallet address becomes live and that transaction will magically appear and its value will get added to your balance.)

http://mooncoin.info site down?
mooncoinpool.com working correctly? After 12h mining, 0 coins.

Correct. Site is down. Supposedly it cannot cope with the inrush of download-requests. Which, basically, is a good sign.
So, you just have to wait. Be patient.

As for the pool-question: I'd recommend P2Pool, again: http://www.reddit.com/r/MoonCoin/comments/1xd1na/moon_p2pools
That way, you don't have to rely on the payout-logic of the pool-operators, since everything is handled by the P2Pool-wallet.

Actually, the site is down due to flaky VPS provider. I'm bringing it back online now.
