whisky so old it could drink whisky.

Top shelf single malts are my favorite right now, as often as I can afford them.  Peaty stuff, made on the shores of Ireland, with hints of salt and seaweed.

A PC is better than all other options. If not, the playstation has some very neat exclusive games.

Kinect comes at a close second (so xbox) but as its target audience is casual gamers and kids, it's not really for me.

Oh, and before anybody goes accusing me of trying to start a flame war, here's why the PC is better Cheesy

The only thing Facebook is good for is its message system, because it's ubiquitous. I have it online, on my phone, etc.

However, the price is a bit steep (all my personal info, and as much as I try to keep it private, people will tag me etc).

Re: newegg buttcoin prepaid debit loophole

is there any loophole that allow you buy prepaid visa/debit giftcard from newegg now that they accept bitcoin Huh

Hm.. Just last week Newegg told me that they have no plans to ever except bitcoin

"Thank you for contacting Newegg.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, we don't plan to start accepting bitcoin. Thank you in advance for your patience.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please visit our FAQs page. If you still require any assistance, please feel free to reply directly to this email.

Thank you,

(accept) Wink

Yeah, they've had that standard boilerplate for a long, long time. I wonder what finally tipped their hand. Probably all this positive press around the auction. It's obvious bitcoin is being given the green light by the US government, and that it's here to stay. I see more big companies jumping on board in the near future.

Either that, or the state of California clearing up the waters about accepting crypto currencies (which used to be illegal, even if not really enforced).

Honestly asking, why wouldn't the government be able to move the bitcoins? Who cares that they used to belong to the Silk Road? I mean, they auction off confiscated cars and goods all the time, don't they?

What am I not understanding here?

in this case, 10^-(10^100).

Or we could draw the line at the Plank constant since anything smaller is just theoretical... Or we could just go with integers. How's that? Cheesy

Re: CEX.IO

cex.io has a huge maintenance fee, which eats up like 40% of the mining revenue per GHs. I guess it makes sense for it to be fixed, as electricity and hosting prices do not vary with difficulty, but that's a lot of lost revenue.

There are other options in cloud scrypt mining, which seem to be better at the moment - to me anyway.

Re: When Will Bitcoin Reach $1000??
by

Well there are news that Newegg has started accepting bitcoin, which is good. The ecosystem can use all the good news it can get.

However, $1000? Maybe if something big happens to get demand soaring.

Re: What is mining
by

Is it really worth it to do mining these days? I mean, the energy consumption would probably eat all the profits. Am I wrong?

If you are hoping to get some profits in bitcoin mining, I am sorry to tell you the good days are gone. Smiley
Not only you need to consider the electricity cost, you also need to account for the uptrend of difficulty.

Or, to put it more simply, No, it's not worth it. Most of the mining equipment is overpriced, and you'll probably not get a quick return on your investment as difficulty rises constantly.

Difficulty rises constantly because people keep buying and using mining equipment to mine, raising the total network hashrate (or network power) which in turn raises the difficulty, making the equipment less and less efficient. Which brings the need for more efficient, more powerful equipment, which can bring a profit. But that new equipment makes the network even more powerful and so on and so on.

The electricity cost is something to take into consideration, of course, but the biggest problem is that new ASIC equipment is very expensive and it needs to be maintained properly. You don't want a $6000 mini computer sitting in a closet - you need cooling, adequate electric circuits (surge protectors etc) because you don't want a power spike to fry it and so on. These are usually found in datacenters, which could host your miner(s) but add cost themselves, as hosting isn't usually cheap. On the bright side, hosting usually includes power, so there's that Smiley

So the investment is quite big, and even if you do everything perfectly, accidents happen and you could lose a miner to bad luck. That means you should invest in more miners, just for the risk mitigation... It's not something you should consider without a lot more reading up on the subject.

I think the reason for the rise in price is more about the latest good news and less about this auction.
As you should know Newegg is the latest to jump on the bitcoin bandwagon (http://www.theverge.com/2014/7/1/5860556/newegg-now-accepts-bitcoin). That and the state of California clearing the waters a bit about payments in bitcoin might be the reason for the upswing.

Here's my two cents:

1. Kudos with being responsible with the ID. A witch hunt is definitely something we don't need right now.
2. A PI is an infinitely better idea than just going over there yourself for reasons others have stated (mostly, a PI should know some of the laws about recording people or dealing with them in general. That's why they're PIs). I liked the flowers idea though.
3. This might still be a scam, long con, or whatever, but it is also likely that the guys had good intentions  but at some point something happened - human error, computer crash, whatever - that lost them their bankroll and the easiest way out was to just up and quit. It's not like everyone who had $50 invested there will fly over and put pressure on the agencies that can shed light on this situation - and I frankly don't even know which they would be. The police? This isn't theft, it's closer to fraud, but did you guys sign a contract?
Anyway, I'm not trying to start a flame war about which laws this might fall under, I'm just saying it might be a bit difficult to solve in court.

However, good luck with the proceedings and do keep us posted. I am not against chipping in to hire a PI - though at this point this is just for closure for me.

Thank you!

Re: what should I do with 0.20247 bitcoins?
by

Buy a domain and hosting for a year  - namecheap.com accepts BTC, and they do domains + hosting, though for the latter there might be some other, cheaper hosts.

Build a website, a blog, a personal gallery, whatever. You probably won't make any money off of it, but hey, having a place online to call your own is neat. (Source: I have a place online I call my own Cheesy )

If you want, you can do something for the community using that website, and ask for BTC tips. You never know!

Which coin will get exchanged directly to USD next? Because that's the real problem. The one that does will have a much better chance than all the others.
