Re: Need Help In Understanding The Significance Of Market Cap & Volume(24hr) & More

It looks like this question may have already been answered. But just in case, I've got a definition from here: https://decryptionary.com/dictionary/market-capitalization/

"Market Capitalization is a way to rank and judge the size of a cryptocurrency or stock in a company. The total dollar value is calculated by taking the total supply and multiplying it by the price. For example, if bitcoin is worth $4,000 and there are 16,500,000 coins in existence, that means its market cap is $66,000,000,000 or $66 billion." -Decryptionary

Re: What does 'Pump and Dump' means in crypto trading ?
by
decryptionary
on 10/12/2017, 21:21:47 UTC
I've seen several good definitions here for Pump and Dump.

Here's my own definition from https://decryptionary.com/dictionary/pump-and-dump/

An illegal manipulation tactic where people increase the price of a stock (the pump) so that they can sell it at those high prices for a profit (the dump). The person creating the pump and dump must first own some of the asset. Then they convince others to buy the asset with exaggerated or fake news causing the price to rise. At that point, they sell what they own. With no one promoting the asset, prices drop and many people are left with worthless assets and wasted money.

"Pump and dump" is often said in the crypto space to mean sharing news in forums (like this) and chat groups like Telegram to encourage people to buy a crypto. Then as more people begin buying, the price rises and sellers can get rid of their coins to these new buyers at a profit. Because the SEC is not yet regulating the crypto space, it is not illegal.

Re: The Basics of Blockchain Explained; How To Leverage BFXWorld

Hm... Doesn't really seem like you explained "blockchain" to anyone. If someone wants to learn about the blockchain, I'd like to provide the following information:

Blockchain is technology for creating permanent, secure digital recordings that don’t rely on any single person or group. Blockchains can record any information, though the first example was created to record bitcoin transactions.

Imagine the blockchain as a book of records. Each page in that book, is a block, and can record anything. Blocks are created one after the other, chained to each other creating what we know as the blockchain.

Multiple blockchain records are maintained simultaneously by a large group of unrelated individuals and their computers, making it cloud storage on steroids. Updates are seen immediately and manipulation is extremely difficult/impossible.

Re: How to explain BTC to family members?
by
decryptionary
on 10/12/2017, 04:43:08 UTC
I think it's impossible. A lot of things should be explained to have some basic understanding of it. Simply put I say that this is a decentralized currency that exists on the Internet. No one controls it, it has fixed amount, and it's issued by computers that solve difficult mathematical algorithms. That's the easiest definition I came up with. But it's very superficial

Defining BTC is definitely possible.

I got into crypto early 2017 and got pretty stuck trying to understand it. After 6-8 weeks of research, I created Decryptionary.com

Decryptionary is the simplest crypto resource. It explains what "bitcoin" is in approximately 100 words. It has visuals. It also has a dictionary with 200+ other entries.

For the guys who want to learn how to buy their first BTC or altcoins, I have super simple and visual walkthroughs.

For the guys who want to figure it out themselves, I have word lists by subject.

It's a growing thing. But I think it will help others.

Re: Safest Crypto Currency Wallets?
by

on 09/12/2017, 23:17:34 UTC
I plan to embrace the crypto world.

I have two questions.

a) What are the safest Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum Wallet. A separate wallet for each is what I am asking.(online wallets preffered)

And

b) Which is the safest Multicurrency Wallet (online wallets preffered)

I'm late to this conversation. But for anyone else who is new to crypto and wants to embrace the crypto world, I'd like to suggest you check out my website, Decryptionary.com

It is the simplest crypto and blockchain dictionary. It has 200+ definitions, silly stick-figures, and visual walkthroughs to help new guys understand the subject, get their first crypto, diversify and protect their investment.

Re: Bitcoin VS Traditional banks
by
decryptionary

IMHO, the expansion of crypto is fundamentally hindered by the following 3 problems:

  • Confusion on technical terms example: blockchain, SHA256, node.
  • The lack of a simple way for people to get into crypto. Only Coinbase exists for now.
  • The lack of a secure and easy way for users to secure their crypto while still keeping it accessible.

I'm addressing the first problem with my website, Decryptionary.com where I define 200+ words including the 3 mentioned earlier.

I also wrote walkthroughs at https://decryptionary.com/what-is-cryptocurrency/ These walkthroughs help people understand crypto and participate in them without investment advice.

Crash , a sudden rapid drop price. Correction , a slow drop price and usually takes several times hit the market.
That's the definition of crash and correction for me , i cannot judge the market yet for now.
Let's see in the next few days , but i believe this gonna be a crash. Be ready for it.

Hey that's good. I might have to quote you in my crypto and blockchain dictionary, Decryptionary.com

Re: UPDATED: Segwit and the August 1st and SegWit2x fork explained in simple terms
by
decryptionary
on 04/12/2017, 06:50:55 UTC
I've had a hard time grasping what's happening, but I think I finally get the picture. I thought it would be helpful to explain in simple terms what's going on. The situation is quite complicated with SegWit2x entering the picture so this is long but it should still be simple with minimal confusion due to interchanging terminology. If you like it please leave a comment to boost it so that other people can read it too.

This is a pretty fantastic resource you made here OP! If you don't mind, I'd like to use it as a resource in adding to and updating some of my definitions in Decryptionary.com?

Re: Where Will The Digital Economy Take Us?

But how do you define a blockchain? Is it a digital ledger secured by Proof of Work, completely permissionless and decentralized? Or is it something else like what the ICOs are doing? There is a big difference.

We must first know what a blockchain really is to predict its future, because in some definitions, anything can be a blockchain.

I've done quite a bit of digging into what a blockchain is. After looking at many respectable sources including Andreas Antonopoulis, I've come up with a pretty solid definition linked below:

https://decryptionary.com/dictionary/blockchain/

This comes from my passion project, Decryptionary. It has 200+ definitions, simple visual walkthroughs and word lists by subject. I'd appreciate honest feedback from the Bitcoin Talk group.

Everything checks except here. There are 2 types of Desktop wallets. One is as you described "full client" that downloads whole blockchain but there are some wallets that are SPV wallets. They don't need to keep whole blockchain, only fraction of it to be able serve as wallet Smiley.

If you are looking for really simple definitions of things like wallet, keys, address, and SPV I'd like to invite you to check out my passion project. It's called Decryptionary and it's the simplest crypto dictionary.

You can find a simple definition of SPV at this link:
