Re: The truth is out: money is just an IOU, and the banks are rolling in it

Has anyone of the macro-financial experts here even bothered to read the original article (and not just THE MONEY IS NOT REAL sensationalism from the OP link)?

http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/publications/Documents/quarterlybulletin/2014/qb14q102.pdf

And if you can't read scientific articles - here is what is the main statement of this one:

Quote
As a by-product of QE, new central bank reserves are created. But these are not an important part of the transmission mechanism. This article explains how, just as in normal times, these reserves cannot be multiplied into more loans and deposits and how these reserves do not represent ‘free money’ for banks.

Can you explain a bit more this one:
- Payment in the desired cryptocurrency (mine most cost-effective currency at the moment and  get paid in the currency you choose)

Does that mean I can choose to be payed in BTC? If so, which exchange rate? Any additional fees?

Say, one has ~250K coins, and needs to return 300K during the next week.
Say one sells 100-150K coins right now in this highly elevated price.
Will there be enough panic to get the price back to say 8, where one can buy at least 200K coins?

No.

who's going to panic sell below 10?

we all know theirs a guy out their that wants to buy ALL the bitcoins

Well actually the guy might be willing to buy them if he cares more about his reputation than few (hundreds thousands) bucks. But, than again, he might be just waiting for a new yacht at that time...

According to this:  www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/white_papers/wp298.pdf

Going from 130nm to 65 or even 45nm would give you savings at ~40-50%

Hence, the ballpark is 25-50W. No way it is going to be 5W Smiley)

if it ever materializes that is.

So how does this work? I deposit Euro's, they automaticly convert them to Dollars? (for free???) And I then buy bitcoins?

Yupp, pretty much.

I sent them some euros yesterday after working hours from Spain.
I got USD in my Bitstamp account this morning! And the EUR/USD conversion was pretty much what google gives me - very fair exchange rate.

Plus, they had some BTC for 5.81 on sale - so now I'm in Bitcoins Smiley

Overall - I am very satisfied so far.

So, if the time is up now, can we have a table before the first hash block, so any manipulation is out of the question?

Edit: sorry my error with time zones. Smiley

In any case I think it should be nice to have the table  published immediately after the raffle closes.

So, how do we know our ticket number for combining for sha? It is not given anywhere when one buy a ticket.

Hi deepDown,

We will publish the list once the raffle is over. All emails in the list will be hashed so only you will be able to find your email hash and corresponding ticket numbers.

Ticket numbers are assigned based of when you placed your order. If there are 500 tickets purchased before you and you purchased 1 ticket, you will get ticket number 501.

If you are not a programmer, don't worry, we will post a link that will create the proper hash of your email so you can easily search the list.

Best,
gigavps

Great! Thanks for the explanation.

Yupp, I am thinking along the same lines - he screwed BIOSes somehow.

I was just confused with those 3 cores reported by atitweak. And the fact that there is only master 119.5 BIOS in techPowerUp archive.

Also, I remember reading here that someone had problems with Dell 5970 cards - I can't find it now - it was about buggy drivers or maybe they weren't working in Linux? Anyone can help me find that post/person?

Dell 5970 reports 3 cores, other 5970 not working - crossfire problem?
by

on 13/03/2012, 13:48:16 UTC
Hi guys,

I just got two used ATI OEM 5970 from eBay, the seller says they were bought together in a Dell Aurora system. They are the ones that have the metal handle on rear of the backplate.

In short, one of them doesn't boot at all, no BIOS screen nor anything, the other shows 3 cores!! in BAMT (atitweak). The seller claims that the non-working one is configured as 'slave' in CrossFire so I need to start them in CF configuration with both cards in 16x pci-e slots to make them both work.

Is this a plausible story? If so, will it be enough to find a computer with 2x pciEx16 CF mobo and disable CF on the secondary card - so it can work solo?

The thing is that I have a rig with watercooled Sapphire 5970, CoolerMaster RealPower Pro 850 (750W at 12V) and nothing much more except i5 on asus P7P55D-E LX motherboard, and usb stick with BAMT. The problem is that the MB has only one 16x pci-e slot. But I had tried many Radeon 5xxx and 6xxx with the extender in pci-e 1x slots and they all worked no problem - including two Sapphire 5970 and that before-mentioned 3 core ATI OEM 5970. So it is a problem for me to find a proper high-perf CF enabled mobo - and would prefer a solution without it.

Little more details:
I tried putting both cards as secondary, connected to pci-e 1x->16x extender, and with Chieftec 1000W PSU, just to be on the safe side. The 3-core card works and mines normally in BAMT, boots in Windows and I can see one core (no CF cable) or 2 cores (with CF cable).  In BAMT aticonfig shows 2 cores on new card, atitweak shows 3 cores, the same as modified radeonvolt.
With problematic card BAMT boots, but can not start Xserver - aticonfig shows 2 cores, atitweak can't work without X, modified radeonvolt shows only 1 core. Windows hangs at logo screen. It can boot into the safe mode and shows 2 cores with CF cable connected.

Both cards have the same BIOS: (and on both cores they have master BIOS, if that might be the problem)

GPU Device Id: 0x1002 0x689C
113-C00001M-102
HEMLOCK MASTER XT BIOS Rev B UCODEv:1195
(C) 1988-2005, ATI Technologies Inc.
ATOMBIOSBK-ATI VER012.013.000.002.000000
SC00001M.102

I would prefer not to change BIOS if possible, as the seller claims he didn't touch it - and I don't want to get into dispute about that if I decide to return them.

Thanks

So, very secure VISA solution may lead to something like this: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/12/15/credit_card_processor_security_probed/

Over 10 000 random people got their credit cards blocked...

Similar to something we saw this summer, you say? Well, that's centralization...

Re: Has anyone reported bitcoin capital gains or losses on their taxes?
by

I'm not sure what you're getting at with 89 vs 90%.

Oh, I was saying that someone just under the poverty line (90%) gets a full prebate on their "flat-distributed" % tax. Someone just over it (89%) get's absolutely no benefit. This is my argument for graduated taxes.

In most EU countries, one does not pay taxes at the first XX euros his/hers yearly income, than he pays some low tax at the next YY EUR, and than higher percentage for next ZZ euros he earned (if he earned that much) and so on until some large percentage that is usually set for all income over 100K EUR for example.

So it is gradual for everyone. And if, say, the no tax limit is set at 15K EUR, there is not much difference for guy earning 16K euros and 15K euros per year.  The first one would pay maybe 10% of one thousand euros while the second won't pay any taxes.

holy WHAT

I'm in an endless loop of getworks being submitted to slush
I'm going to update and see if it fixes it

I have exactly the same problem after all updates applied.
And it is not exclusive to any pool  - I have been stuck in getwork loops on deepbit, eligius and bitcoins.lc so far.

How can I revert back to an earlier version of bithopper using git?

thanks

I join the appeal that Mtgox upgrade its trading platform and/or servers.

It is extremely frustrating to watch price swings and not be able to login at mtgox - it took me over a minute and up to 3mins each time during the weekend.
It leaves an amateurish impression, taken that they have at least 1000$ profit per day and I would guess that less than 2000 people are actively using the site at any moment.

So, any upgrade news would be very appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Deepdown, I would like to shoot you a donation for helping me out.....you got me an extra 500 MH/s (I have a LARGE farm).  Give me an address if you like.

You are mostly welcome!
Here is my address: 1348HX3hrNjuyzwBMoHPJJ1jqB9FXvpZ1N

And if you are just starting, I feel compelled to give u an advice that got me more BTC than better kernels:
Set each card to two(or more) pools -means: just run two instances of a miner directed to different pools. That way if one pool goes down, and sometimes they do even for a whole day, it will automatically mine on the other. And you loose no time(money Wink stalling

I tried Diablo, GUI miner and phoenix and phoenix works the best for me.
Though the guy in the thread I linked uses GUIminer so it shouldn't be a problem.

But there is an option in GIUminer to set the kernel it uses and the flags for the kernel - so play around with that and see the results. Most of the guys in Mining Hardware Comparison list post their flags so that is a good starting point and the thread from my previous post has them somewhere I think.
