+1 great effort, and fully support the name change, more discussion info on this topic here: http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/2f4pdd/thisisvtccom_the_launch_of_the_vert_community/

We have just officially launched the Vert Community Alliance.

The official thread is at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=764652

For ease of reading, the contents is below:

September 1st 2014

Today, Labor day in the US, 1-9-14 in the UK.

We launch:
        Publically the "VCA" or Vert Community Alliance.

        The website www.thisisvtc.com.

        The renaming of Vertcoin to Vert.

        The new logo.

And the start of something special.

We know that the community believes in Vert. We know that Vert can be something great. That is why, a month or so ago, we started an initiative to turn the tide and breathe fresh life into Vert.

In the run up to the new algorithm we felt that as a community we can't sit idly by and hold. We believe in Vert, so we must advance the project during the interim.

Today we start this process.

If you want to be a member, you only need to contact us (project@verters.com for now) - let us know what you can contribute, and why you believe in Vert.

Other than that, we ask you to work with us - to make something special.

If any service providers want a copy of the PSD versions of the logo (or other higher resolutions of either the Logo or the VCA logo - drop an email to the above address.

Any questions for us to answer. Let us know.

New development update here guys: https://vertcoin.org/blog/

Looks like we'll be getting Lyra2RE (reduced efficiency) version of Lyra2 algo, one of the side effects, lower temperatures  Wink

That sounds great, i havent looked at Lyra2E much. Can they hold out miner optimization ? As we've seen with x11, every month a miner with more efficiency come up, two months ago it was 3x scrypt, last  month 4x scrypt, and just recently 5.5x scrypt. I hope Lyra2E is also "optimizing-resistance".

Not too many details out yet, I hope it will be.

just small question
Did I missed today or last day any disaster?? Undecided 0.o ??

Just checked vtc price last hours trades ... and ... ... yeah ... and ...

so was any disaster or just like that ? Smiley
I still hold pretty much vtc (in these days price pretty little -.-) but stopped watching or caring much as anyway for me its like lost all (no way I ever sell it for current or lower price) of it or somehow earn later ... If it hits 1 satoshi then I will see what will be after years with this ... :/

well still sad  to see days like this...

P.S.
did you all noticed that vtc sinked lowst within last 30 days then most of the coins? It looks like from loads of shit coins vtc became more shitty ... while I see it as best ... Somehow looking at this I feel like idiot :/
Yes, it does look like the market reaction to the announcement of a possible algorithm change. Just as I thought would happen, a massive no vote from the market. Devs please take note.

The market price of Vertcoin did rise for about a day or two immediately after the announcement of Lyra2.  The market was positive towards the algo change.  However it was quickly overshadowed by the news of 'community infighting' over Subsidy Change voting.  See http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/2bwh0h/vertcoins_recent_decisions_the_damage_hasnt_been/

The 'infighting' got fiercier and the price reflected it - it got lower.  Fortunately BBurlington79 stepped in to help.  Kudos to him! And the VertVote system is now terminated.

Thanks! After a lot of though I'm in the mindset that right now we need to stop focusing on the price what so ever. The market is not currently sane and only rewarding new coins for it's initial pump and dump. VTC was pumped way too high initially back when it was put on Cryptsy. Due to this we started to decline as the price was not maintainable and we slipped right on by our actual value and we now find ourselves where we are now. There's no quick fix to figuring out this issue. Anything we do as a knee jerk reaction will hurt VTC more than it will help. I'm actually at peace right now with the price. I feel we can finally focus on our future and stop watching the ticker.

What happens next? We trust our dev team and support them as best we can. We allow them to focus on planned changes rather than forcing them to react to a mob mentality. Over the next few months we focus on the foundation of VTC. We start to co-ordinate a marketing campaign. We have a few months to take the currently planned changes and have lots of ammo for the release. We will see the second rise of VTC. What I hope will not be a pump this time but a slow climb back to a fair value. When this happens we can maintain the price and it should stabilize at this point. All the while we keep making things better, we get people talking about VTC, answer their questions, help them set up wallets, mining..., most importantly we welcome them.

Let's take the next few months and stop focusing on price. Let me ask you this way. Has stressing over price for the last 3-4 months helped anything? Has the toxic environment on the VTC forums invited or sent new investors running away? If you want VTC to thrive you need to check your baggage and do your best to be constructive and helpful. It's so much easier to complain about something than it is to make it better. We need less of the former and more of the latter.

Trust the dev team to do what they do best. Offer constructive criticism to make things better. Don't draw lines in the sand. If anyone is truly that upset about the direction of a coin to only say negative things I don't understand why you don't just sell and find something more to your liking. Whatever you hold whether it be 1 or 10000 VTC we want you if you're here to make things better and if not please feel free to sell me your coins and leave. I'd be happy to take them off your hands at this price Smiley

Stay positive everyone Smiley

Whoops, should note I'm BBurlington79

Let's get back on track with some constructive discussion, someone asked about the timing of the new algo etc.. based on this link: https://vertcoin.org/pow-algorithm-upgrade-lyra2/ , order of events would be:

"There is still much work to be done before we roll it out. Here is a approximate timeline:

1. Derive appropriate initial memory and cpu levels to roughly match the current level (8/15/2014)
2. Implement the new algo in all the wallets including mobile (10/15/2014)
3. Run final testing on testnet (11/15/2014)
4. Final release to mainnet (11/30/2014)

- These are estimates, we may move faster -"

I hope this helps

Hey guys,

We haven't heard anything official when it comes to further plans for VertCoin for a while now, can anyone from the dev team put in a word or two? Nothing extensive, just a short update would be good enough, just so we know what are the next steps.

Also, where is Boris? He's been missing for a while.

Does FUD and flame cause price to fall?

or

Does a falling price cause FUD and flame?

It really isn't as simple as either one. It's a chicken or the egg argument. They are intimately connected, very symbiotic. When things are going good, everything builds together, and when things are going bad, we get reinforcing downward spirals - what is sometimes called the "snowball effect".

Oh, if life were only so simple that we could really believe in the "don't worry, be happy" meme.  Sad

It's obviously a combination of the two, yes. When people are in the red on their investments they react negatively - there is a synergy when the value is dropping and a synergy when the value is rising. My point is that it makes no sense to come in here with a bad attitude and create panic (unless that is the goal) - if you are invested in a currency then, just like any other investment, you should do everything you can to contribute positively and lead a rebound. In the altcoin world everything is amplified because people are on edge - people are losing - move the meter an inch and the masses react as if it were a mile. The point is that a good trader can recognize these situations, learn from historical data, and profit greatly from it. I mention Dollar-Cost Averaging not to sound like a half-rate Ameriprise accountant but to reference a basic concept that so few people in the altcoin world seem to grasp. For the few of you that haven't really thought about it, here is an example of why it's such a critical concept for both savvy investors and emotional traders alike:

Let's say you made the following buys over the past 2 months:

May 14th, VTC @ 0.003: 1 BTC -> 333 VTC
May 20th, VTC @ 0.002: 1 BTC -> 500 VTC
June 10th, VTC @ 0.001: 1 BTC -> 1000 VTC
July 7th, VTC @ 0.0005: 1 BTC -> 2000 VTC
July 14th, VTC @ 0.00044: 1 BTC -> 2272 VTC

So you spent 5 BTC total over the past 2 months on VTC at a peak of 0.003 (the highest the price has been in months) and a low of 0.00044 (the current price). This is investing 101 for buy-and-hold people... but even for inexperienced emotional investors DCA is a powerful tool because it makes you realize the situation isn't as horrible as it feels. In the above example, you would have acquired 6105 VTC for 5 BTC or 1221 VTC per bitcoin. Despite buying at a peak of nearly 7 times the current price, your total purchase price is now averaged out to 0.00081; this means that when VTC recovers to even 0.001, a price we were all disgusted by just a couple short weeks ago, your investment would be worth 25% more than what you invested (over a full bitcoin). I'm not saying that means 0.001 would be a good time to dump and get out (unless that's what you need to do) but suddenly a suffocating situation doesn't look so bad.

I realize this is basic stuff and most of you likely won't get much out of it but we are in a market filled with emotional investors - we need more logical investors to help stabilize this thing. If we ever intend to create an actual economy for these altcoins beyond just speculation, stability is extremely important. When finances are involved, emotions run high - as a business owner, an investor, and even a family man I understand that - but the emotional component is not productive. We need people to take action - spread the word - start marketing and building a positive community - quit complaining and do something. Inaction will get you nowhere... complaining just brings down morale and destroys motivation - just because this is a world dominated by immature investors does not mean everybody needs to lower themselves down to the level of the majority of the field.

Sucking the air out of the room means everybody drops to the floor - if we can't remain motivated, positive, and productive how can we expect everyone else to do it? Positive environments result in positive outcomes - this is a community here, guys - people need to work together, start doing some grass roots marketing, start creating - nobody wants to invest in something if it's surrounding with negative whiners who contribute nothing but demand everything. Without a great community, at this stage, what's the point? I've been mining VTC for months and I've been buying it steadily for 2 months. If I lose everything I put into it, life goes on - I won't lose much sleep over it. However, whether it lives or dies, VTC has carved out it's place in the history books and paved the way for a number of innovations - it would be unfortunate to see a quality coin with fair distribution fall apart because its own community burned it to the ground. This market shifts on a dime and it's amazing how much of an impact this thread, right here on this FUD-filled forum, has on the price.

There are some great things going on here - highlight them and build on them; take advantage of the situation. You mention we can't believe in the "don't worry, be happy" meme - why? Honestly - why? In the grand scheme of things, we don't have a lot of time on this earth - why waste it by obsessing over things that don't really matter in the big picture. If you can't spin something into a positive you aren't trying hard enough. This is just money, it's not over, and even if you choose to give up and exit in the red you will earn more money, spend more money - as long as you never invested money you couldn't afford to lose, life goes on. Unless you have a bookie that is going to break your legs or something... suck it up and move forward. We have the power to start moving the meter in the right direction right now - we need to change the tone of this discussion and start deciding what we're going to do, collectively and individually, to flip the trend. Even if all you care about is the price... the community primarily drives the price. Nobody wants to buy into something when they're unsure if it's found the bottom - who cares? This isn't the stock market - we don't need to rely on quarterly earnings, projections, business models, and board members - it's a low-volume spec commodity market - every single person can have a noticeable impact on value. If people start thinking logically, we don't need to wonder when we will hit the bottom because this will be the bottom - it's really that simple.

People predicting prices are often creating the price via their very prediction - this entire market is dominated by inexperienced, immature, and emotional traders. Most will learn and improve and grow as they go but right now people need to step up. Remember: you don't lose money until you sell lower than you bought.

Gridseed USB 5 Chip miner - configuration question
by

on 11/07/2014, 05:03:56 UTC
Hi guys,

Quick question, I'm running 2 gridseed usb miners on cgminer 3.7.2 without any problems. My question is, since one unit is hardware overclocked, and I know it can go higher in frequency, is there a command in cgminer that can separate clock per miner?

For example:

Miner A freq = 850mhz, Miner B freq = 1000mhz

I found in cgminer readme file that it is supported, and they provided a sample which says you need to specify serial number and the desired frequency (--gridseed-freq 6D9426984857=988,6D9656774857=975) and I tried it but it's not working for some reason.

Also, can anyone provide a sample command from a batch file?

Thanks!

Vertcoin | Stealth Address | Release

Vertans,
The moment you have all been waiting patiently for has arrived. Tonight, we are proud to present to you Stealth Addresses on the Vertcoin Mainnet!

This is the culmination of months of hard work - the kind of hard work that leaves your brain fried and your fingers cramped by the end of the day.

Vertcoin's Stealth Address implementation is yet another, better reason to adopt Vertcoin as your choice payment method for business or personal use. Business users may have worried anonymous payments would prove too litigious to be practical; Personal users may have worried about the integrity of payments with full anonymity. Now both can rest assured because the privacy Vertcoin's Stealth Addresses provide are right in line with what we would all expect from a world class coin.

[dot] = .

NOTE - UNTIL A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF NODES HAVE UPDATED, SX TRANSACTIONS MAY NOT BE RELAYED, SO DO NOT SEND LARGE AMOUNTS OF VERT IN STEALTH TRANSACTIONS YET, AS THOSE TRANSACTIONS MAY TAKE A LONG TIME TO MAKE IT INTO A BLOCK AS THE NETWORK UPDATES.

POOL AND P2POOL NODE OPERATORS SHOULD ALSO UPDATE TO THE NEW MON WALLET SO THEY CAN MINE SX TRANSACTIONS. SX INTRODUCTION IS NOT HARDFORKING, BUT SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH SINCE IT IS IMPORTANT TO GET AS MANY NODES AND MINERS UPDATED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Don't be shy! Let's get the word out and make Vertans out of everyone we meet or talk to Cheesy

Cheers,
bushido

Thanks Erik, Adam and Boris

This is only the beginning...

Let's me summarize for you.

1. Scrypt-N ASIC, We have looking for another algorithm already. We have planed to implement it in GPU and CPU miner after we released Stealth Addresses.

2. Multiple PoW, In order to change to the new algorithm, it must be smooth transition as much as possible. We have planed to implement multiple PoW from Scrypt-N to the new algorithm. According to the plan, it will be Scrypt-N -> New Agorithm + Scrypt-N -> New Algorithm.

3. Multipool & Inflation, We still discussing the solutions with team members to find the best way to solve it, but it will do nothing until we released Stealth Address.

4. Stealth Address, It is in progressing.

Thanks,
bushido

Thank you Bushido, much appreciated. Keep up the good work guys, there are many of us here who are patiently supporting this coin without much hype  Wink
