Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread

Dear Sir Halford,
where will you take us to?

First off, I am glad to sit in your boat.
I love to participate in science while mining.
Hence, I promote your project in many directions and at every occasion!

The network has come quite a way since October.
Yet, today I am confused - help me please.
Yesterday you stated that your main job needs your focus.
This was when you speculated on starting anew / creating one more project, for fun.
Please say that I got you wrong on that. Be our leader, be Grid.
New ideas might breed features, but don't fork your project and your community.

Back in Winter, I had the chance to swap a few sentences with you.
I asked for your project plans. You said, the chain was already safe for investment.
So, I placed some money and followed along, waving your flag.
Later, cpu rewards were introduced silently, no community decision, no transparent information politics. Evaluations started to tumble.

Meanwhile, more than a million new GRC spill into the network each week.
You could at least have halved the block reward since then, imho.
Did you consider to discuss this openly?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your eagerness.
Thus, may I kindly ask you to elaborate on your plans for Gridcoin,
to set some cornerstones fix and commit to them publicly?

Could we place full trust in your endavour?
I believe, trust is what an early community needs the most.
Continue to be innovative as we have grown to love you, but dont let disruption spoil the show.

Therefore, again, please don't take my words as an offense.
But, give us a landmark, hand some vision to refer to,
please.

Let your ppl start to celebrate with you! Smiley

the requirement sounds like the metric should be accessible on a separate page, imho.

Yes the number totally mined GRC so far.

I think Rob has to put up a block explorer that shows all the details. Otherwise there is no way market cap can be calculated.

Trying to fill out the form i am stuck on this quetion:

Please provide a URL that shows the total number of coins in real time.
Required. For example, Feathercoin's total number of coins can be found at: http://ftc.cryptocoinexplorer.com/chain/feathercoin/q/totalbc

Can anyone provide me the link.

Thanks.
Okay, I will put the qty of issued GRC on the block explorer, will that satisfy the requirement?  Let me know before I code it.

@ aysyr & Gridcoin -  thanks for the replies.

This may be a face-palm moment but I don't have any GRC in my wallet. For some reason  I thought the beacon would loop the payment back on itself and so not require a balance. Please can you/someone send me enough GRC to get started  Roll Eyes

GG6XHgjJYmzaSxAeRTeRRhC1g3Smgk1QDh

If this fixes the issue 'll add a post to the 'How to CPU mine' thread as I think the current explanations miss this out.

I have Gridcoin v1.1.5.7-g71-prod

Thanks for your help!
I sent some over to your side, welcome!

New Version Available:
7.7.7/70/1.1.5.7: Upgrade from RPC: Yes

* In this version we correct the cpumining next payment amount and outstanding amount owed and resolve most of the bloated wallet issue.

Please upgrade ASAP as this version will only work correctly after 51% upgrade.

Maybe, resolving bloated wallets doesn't cope with every wallet in the same way..
Still looking for possible reasons.
Rob, may I ask you to comment on this, please?

i have ver. 1.1.5.5 GRC client, i was mining the whole day and found a block then when i woke up my miner say " not responding" and found out the client close by it self so i re open the client and its not synchronizing properly so what i did is uninstall the client, delete the gridcoin folder, delete the blocks and chainstate folder as well as the peers.dat files and reistall the grc client but still unlucky to synchronize it, so i have no choice but to restart my computer and when i re-run the client again it says "Warning Displayed transaction may not be correct! you may need to upgrade or node need to be upgrade" i don't know what to do now? any solution? Thanks Huh
How did it work out for you, airtreb? Could you recover?

The recent upgrades required an additional security check for cpumined blocks and could have broken older versions; after upgrading to 7.7 did you all recover?
All 5 of my machines recovered and went through that block.

Grid

couldn't recover, sadly. but thank you for the explanation.
I started with new wallets on each machine and will try to recover one by one.

Yeah, same problem. Don't know what to do.

Did it happen 10-20 hours ago, as with me?

Boiar, I saw that error as well!

what happened ~around~ block 51509 (16 hours ago)?
All of my 5 (five) wallets seem to be stuck there.

Some machines say, wallet file was corrupted, some just wont sync.
Backups wont sync either. I have been looking into it since I woke up.

How could I possibly recover?

sounds dangerous, how to prevent so from buying a few bytes and swallowing an inferior currency via majority-attack then?

mine crashes too,
upon trying to send 1 GRC in win7 64bit the wallet terminates stating:
"MS Visual C++
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."
Retry @ 1 mGRC failed as well.

is there already a pending request to integrate some stable version of boinc?
this might strip dependencies and make the system less vulnerable.

After not being able to sync for the past while, I just downloaded the latest version. The sync worked now - but surprisingly fast. So I am a bit cautious here.

Could someone send me some GRC so I can test if my wallet actually works?

What Rob explained was, you experience less variance in payouts.
You are right, this does not affect the difficulty, it lowers risk.

Finally completed a trade with Lederstrumpf,
there were quite some delays at my side, but all went well in the end.
(will update the sheet)
He is a polite trader, I enjoyed the deal!
