Sapphire Nitro+ 5700 XT and Red Devil 580 GPUs are the best ones I had experience with since last 4 years of mining. They both are very silent and mined for 2 years non stop. I stopped using them since ethereum merge. They only were used with phoenix miner
The Radeon 5700 XT has been on sale since September 2019, and for the first 4 months or a little more, the hashrate was minimal, because the miners did not optimize their software. Then there were many models with poor cooling, which caused overheating of video cards. You probably bought the most expensive models with the best cooling.
Agree that the hashrate was less than what others have posted. Also, I wanted less noise and was fine with lower hashrate. Same for my 580s from RedDevil. A bit expensive because I bought at the peak of 2018 but very quiet and worked non stop for over 3 years.
I don't understand when you bought RX5700XT video cards. The first hash rate was less than 10 megahash, so these video cards cost a lot and were not in demand among miners. Optimized miners appeared much later, then BIOS firmware appeared.
I had bought in Q4 2020 from Amazon. They were giving around 52Mhs on Ethereum.

I'm wondering what would happen to all crypto miners right now, how are you guys coping with the situation.
I have shut down my rigs but I am not going to sell the equipment and liquidate everything. It also look like a bad timing for Nvidia which will most likely present tomorrow the 4000 series,at least this is what I assume because they have said in their instagram official page that the unbounded is coming,I believe this to be the 4000 series.
As for the rig it is not worthy even if someone has free electricity with those Rx 580 cards will do like 0.50 dollars daily in mining ETC which many people are mining now,the same return with many other coins so we should be in study mode now, looking what is going on around and why not grab a few additional cards for really cheap,as prices have fallen down dramatically since after the merge.
I unassembled on rig that I built in 2018. It was hosting 10 580s. It was a sad moment but feels like it is time to move on.

It has always been confusing what to do. I have been wanting to sell half of GPUs for a while. Mostly 580s and RadeonVIIs. After paying 10-15% to Ebay and 35% to Uncle Sam , we lose half of the sell price.

so are you guys planning to setup new rigs or update existing ones ?
My graphic card 1660 super is faulty? I'm getting code 43 on this card and if I use GPUZ to check info it displays correctly, only bios info is missing, also mem info shows me 0MB, no mining software detects this graphic card, I've use Trex miner, lol miner and few others.
If the GPU is under warranty , just go ahead and RMA. I had 43 error a few times and I have found RMA is only solution.

good that you found out. I have been very careful since I experienced burned smell myself a few occasion. I am a small miner so able to do smell test each day. The large miners probably have better solution. In my case it was electrical adapter and riser in separate occations.

Did you ever find out what was the source of smell?

I had a few components burnt since I started in 2018. Mostly the power cable from PSU to riser. Also the WIFI plug I use at the rigs. If you are able to identify the rig that has smell, check all the electrical components.
My wife sometimes complains about 1 mining farm, because the fans are noisy, so the rest of the mining farm is in a different place. What motivation problems do you have if mining farms do not create problems? I believe that the price of cryptocurrency will rise, so I try to keep my mining farms always working. How can you get tired of a printer that prints money?
Agree. Should not be tired. However fear that 25 cents per GPU would be coming soon makes me sometime sad.
Saying you got tired of them is like saying you don't want the profits anymore, now that mining is still profitable how can you say you are tired of the rigs? You wanna give them away 😉? I'm right here, jokes apart if your electricity bill is cheap don't ever give up on mining.
What I meant was that I only saw one crypto winter and now I know the next one is coming soon. People here have seen more than one and just wondering how they keep themselves going?
I keep myself motivated because I can invest the money I get from crypto mining by buying cryptos that are really low in value and keeping them until they spike in price,it is a lot like gambling only that it happens in a long period of time, right now I am obsessed with FUN token and Shiba so I have lots of them again with some other coins,I diversify my portfolio. So far the only big money I made was because of mining Bitcoin through Nicehash in the beginning years 2016-2019 but I want to make another big profit on other coins and that is enough to keep me motivated.
Thanks for responding. What conflicts me is that I know the crypto winter is coming and all my GPUs except 5700xt are over 2 years old. So sometime I get tempted to sell and move on. Otherwise I feel like need to change all motherboards and PSUs. I have changed all the risers 6 months back. How often you change other stuff beside the GPUs?
I was a newbie in 2018. I started Early 2018 and slowly built my rigs in next 2 years. I just have 4 rigs that I could keep in a room in an apartment. It was exciting first couple of years but now I am getting tired of them. They are working fine though. How do you keep yourself motivated?
4 rigs is a lot for an apartment if you live in it with your family. The only option is a separate room, with good sound insulation. On the balcony, noise from 4 rigs can disturb your neighbors and they will swear at you or shed complaints. It is better to install a mining farm in a private house, but not in living quarters. For example, in the basement, garage or other utility rooms.
it is in a separate room that is normally never used unless a guest arrives and we normally shutdown when someone is living. The rigs don't really make much noise.
I guess my personal story of 2016-2019 fits well to tell here also as I have already told it in another thread here in the mining alt.I entered late 2016,early 2017 in the mining game and things were going well with my rigs of old generations of Rx 470/480 and later on that 2017 year with Rx 570/580.All seemed well until the January 2018 came and it let every body, especially the newbies who had just started in December 2017 after the all time high wondering.Well the newbies immediately sold their devices at a loss while I insisted to continue mining even at a loss and I also convinced my friend as we were two people in this. After many discussions he was convinced and we continued mining until April/May 2019 when we had accumulated enough Bitcoin and let them rest, shut down our miners but didn't took Bitcoin out until 2021 in February where with the amount accumulated we got back our investment, invest in a new mining rig and also have like 1/4 Bitcoin left standing there for when the price will sky rocket again.
The difference between newbies and us that had a couple of years experience is we were or better I was prepared for such scenarios but in the long term I was firmly convinced that it would work out great which it did.I give the same advice now to newbies as the OP,if you are not for the long run don't even bother coming at mining at this time.

The same with LEDs of GPUs and motherboards. Some GPUs for example 5700xt from Sapphire has a way to turn off using software but a lot of them for example RadeonVII I am unable to. It would be nice to have no lights whatsoever in mining rig except the one that is on ethernet port.
And why? I don´t understand this problems with the LED´s. Is it danger for your eyes? You sitting the whole day in front of your rig and watch how it runs?
Well, everyone has their own setup. for me, the setup is in a spare room and in night just too much glow if someone has to use that room. Not a big issue but would be nice if there is less lights

what is life of GPUs ?
I got a bunch of 580s that have been working since 2018 and recently switch them off due to space issue. I am thinking whether to sell them or to wait till I get space again for mining. How long these GPUs can last?
