If you include p2pool in the default install (or an easy way to set it up after install) Im sure you will get a lot of help from the p2pool people. p2pool's biggest problem is all the steps required to set it up initially. It would be cool to have it all ready to go (miners and pool) in one pre configured package.  I would donate to that. Maybe post what you are planning to do on the p2pool thread.
I also would like to see p2pool in LinuxCoin!!!

LinuxCoin 1.0 is just about complete. It has a shinny new kernel and features that will blow your mind Cheesy Like ;

A very sexy new bootsplash
Compressed persistent space
PnP cluster mining with persistent booting
Turbo boot (Now boots into your OS in around 3 to 5 seconds)
Sandboxed HTTPD server for extra security while running munin.
32bit version

I have really put some work into this version and I'm not going to rush this and get it wrong Cheesy So expect nothing soon Wink

How far did you come drgr33n? Will it ever be released?

Hi drgr33n,

when I activate your munin-phoenix plugin I get this (and more errors) in the munin-node.log:

Code:
...
2011/09/10-15:30:03 [12241] Error output from phoenix_accept:

2011/09/10-15:30:03 [12241] pyopencl.RuntimeError: clGetDeviceIDs failed: device not found
...

If I execute "python /etc/munin/getatinumber.py" over SSH I get the same error until I do:

Code:
sudo su
chmod uog+rw /dev/ati/card*
xauth merge /home/user/.Xauthority
export DISPLAY=:0

after this I get the correct answer executing "python /etc/munin/getatinumber.py". Do you have a suggestion on how to solve this problem with the munin plugin?

Is the current block time normal for this pool? It seems like a like a long time at 1 days 19:19:51.
Look at the "Statistics" page. There you can see the "Duration".

How about including some transactions in the 4th block?! The future will need more fees than generation rewards... and you're missing the whole idea of mining...

If there are no transactions being recorded, that is a major design problem.

this is currently being worked on. see https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/476 and the forum thread referenced therein.
I would like to see it the way that the node responsible can decide if he wants to include transactions in the blocks he finds for the p2pool. Even grater it would be if he could decide if he wants to include transactions with no fees or only those with fees or only those with fees > X.XXXXXXXX BTC.

I love the idea of this pool, but one thing that personally puts me off it is the 0.5% fee to forrestv.
Me too!   Cry
The project to me seems to symbolize freedom from the mining pool operators and this fee kinda spoils it for me.
For me too ...

I also would appreciate that kind of donation feature to forrestv instead of the fixed 0,5% fee for him!

The difficulty of getting a p2pool share is automatically adjusted to keep one share being produced every ten seconds for all people using p2pool, in exactly the same way that the bitcoin difficulty is adjusted to keep blocks being generated at one every ten minutes.
Tell me if I understood it right. Is it so that if I add some more miners the share time will decrease, then the p2pool difficulty must increase to reach the ten seconds again and therefore the weight of the new shares has also to increases for the payout?

Used with munin, it creates those beautiful graphs of your hashing power:

How did you configure munin to show this graph?

The only minor thing is that the payment to the last N shares is weighted according to the difficulty of getting a p2pool share at that time.
Can you explain this a bit? Who measures the difficulty of getting a p2pool share???

I'm a bit confused with the fees taken. Is it right how I understood it?:

Code:
  50 BTC/block
+ X.XXXXXXXX BTC from fees of transactions in the solved block
= Total BTC to be distributed

Now:
0,5% of 'Total BTC' goes to the one who finds the block
0,5% of 'Total BTC' goes to forrestv
What remains is PPLNS (Payed Per Last N Shares)

Please confirm or correct me. Thanks.

.... I would have thought that Phoenix would try to reconnect on it's own when the network drops out.
For me Phoenix does reconnect. If I pull my LAN cable out of the computer the miner becomes idle after some seconds. When I connect the cable again with the computer the miner starts after less then one minute to work again. This is with Phoenix-files from yesterday downloaded from github.

I cannotn seem to do things as root. Whenever I am asked to enter authentication as root, I press enter, bacause there is no password set correct?
You will have to set a root password if you need. Most root things you can do using the "Root Terminal" instead of the "LXTerminal". Using the "Root Terminal" you can act as root but does not need to enter a password. To change the root PW enter "passwd" in the "Root Terminal" and enter your new PW twice.

For those who need another keyboard setting, type:

Code:
...# dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

Then select your keyboard and on the next page select "Other" for other language then the US.

@ drgr33n

Can you add this to your wiki Setup (http://www.linuxcoin.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Category:Setup) I couldn't find a way to do it at my own. Sad

@ gnar1ta$

I did:

Code:

Has anyone been able to get atitweak working on final over ssh? It locks up unless I follow this:

Code:
sudo su
chmod uog+rw /dev/ati/card*
xauth merge /home/user/.Xauthority
export DISPLAY=:0

I got it working. I logged in over ssh as "root" (you must have set a root password before you can log in) then I did:

Code:
ssh -X user@
password: live
sudo su
chmod uog+rw /dev/ati/card*
xauth merge /home/user/.Xauthority
export DISPLAY=:0
aticonfig --odgc --adapter=all

From then on it workes for me as "root" and also as "user"

Re: [MINER] Phoenix - New efficient, fast, modular miner **BFI_INT support!**
by
deti
on 21/08/2011, 20:10:09 UTC
Hi, how can I print the output of the miner into a file? I do
Code:
for (( j=0; j<$num; j++ )); do
    ./phoenix.py -u http://xyz_$j:123456@mineco.in:3000/  -k poclbm DEVICE=$j VECTORS BFI_INT FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=13 > /home/user/miner_log_$j.txt &
    sleep 10
done
so it runs in the background and prints the output into the log_files. But I get a lot of additional unreadable characters in each line looking like this:
Code:
[424.39 Mhash/sec] [56 Accepted] [1 Rejected] [RPC (+LP)]                                                                                                                                                                           [424.90 Mhash/sec] [56 Accepted] [1 Rejected] [RPC (+LP)]                                                                                                                                                                           [425.21 Mhash/sec] [56 Accepted] [1 Rejected] [RPC (+LP)]                                                                                                                                                                           [425.38 Mhash/sec] [56 Accepted] [1 Rejected] [RPC (+LP)]                                                                                                                                                                           [425.21 Mhash/sec] [56 Accepted] [1 Rejected] [RPC (+LP)]                                                                                                                                                                           [425.29 Mhash/sec] [56 Accepted] [1 Rejected] [RPC (+LP)]                                                                                                                                                                           [424.98 Mhash/sec] [56 Accepted] [1 Rejected] [RPC (+LP)]                                                                                                                                                                           [424.83 Mhash/sec] [56 Accepted] [1 Rejected] [RPC (+LP)]                                                                                                                                                                           [19/08/2011 14:07:43] Result: 06c4d93e accepted
All I want to see in the logfile is the time, the speed, the accepted/rejected number and the result. How can I do that?

see my script:

......................

Thanks Zwenny for your workaround, it's a nice idea, but I am asking to the developers for a build-in way to print the output in a nice format into a file. For example in this way:

./phoenix.py -u http://xyz:123456@mineco.in:3000/ -f /path/to/my/miner_log.txt  -k poclbm DEVICE=0 VECTORS BFI_INT FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=13
