Upgrading offline Windows XP PC - Receiving error.
by
dhenson
on 24/02/2016, 07:04:09 UTC
After installing the new 2.5.4 on my offline PC I'm getting the following error:
"this application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Of course, multiple installs have not worked.  Before I started, I renamed both the electrum folder within program files and the electrum folder in the c:\documents and settings\username\application data\users folder.

I can return to the original install if needed but I'm unable to send some transactions due to the old age of the current install.

I'm guessing I have some out-dated dependencies, any help would be appreciated.

P.S. With apologies to "dhenson" -- trust me, if ASICMINER makes a roaring comeback, I'll be more upset about this than you Smiley

Hah, no worries, I just hope this ends up being sufficient.

edit... However, based on the dividend history (https://blockchain.info/address/1PYMwZt98TfTj8hWYKaEHUmubALqPC1Kgq) and the 11/24 dividend amount of 0.0000543/share, you had 650 shares, not 450.

Serious question for US AM hodlers out there... how do you go about "abandoning" this investment for tax purposes? I'd happily sell my shares to someone for a penny, if I could... but I presume that would need a response from friedcat.

"Abandonment" of an investment is a real thing from the IRS's perspective, I've just never done it before. If you have experience, let me know!

Sign a message with the private key of the account you hold the shares under selling them to me for $1.  PM me your email address and I'll paypal you the payment (or obviously I could pay in btc). In the event FC comes back, your signed message would be sufficient for him to transfer me the shares so the sale should be binding. AFIAK

Well, that assumption makes sense. How do you know Jutarul flew there just before Friedcat disappeared? A couple of month ago I asked Jutarul via  PM whether he got some information about this whole asicminer situation but never got any reply.

I looked back through my PM history and his trip to China was Nov. so not immediately before, but close enough.

Multiple product failures so he decided to cut and run. Not sure why anyone would even consider some other possibility.

I mean it really can't be that hard for shareholders in china to investigate this, isn't it? Check out his wife, his employers and all. And surely you will get your own image of everything. Alone that fact that we "believe" that the story about his wife is only an invention is stupid somehow. Nobody can check it? Really? That sounds unbelieveable.

If i would have been heavily invested AND still had enough money to do it, i surely would fly there for a month and check everything out. That this didn't happen is puzzling me... really. Nothing but mist clouds in this case.

Shortly before everything went down, Jutarul flew to China and met with Friedcat and Co.  Then, when he first disappeared and everyone was speculating (March 3rd 2015), Friedcats main mining address where his funds were being placed paid out 3 large payments (5456btc, 2125btc and 9650 btc transactions).

https://blockchain.info/address/15h6A2a3D31vRviBDdSpvhLtYJq3aePhdW

My assumption has been that he paid off the largest holders and ran. This is obviously compete speculation on my part.

Ok, where exactly are we at with this?  You are still wanting to change your name to what exactly?

How much are you looking to raise?

Would a selfie at the courthouse with official paperwork be provided?  How open are you to letting the largest donor pick your middle name?

So many questions...

Hilarious that people are reading everything in all these Havelock threads and still trying to "invest" in their "funds", though.

I'd tell you not to give your BTC away, Phildo, but something tells me you won't listen!

Its baffling to me how 'trust' still prevails here. Have to say though, im wrong about Havelock still here after all this time. Thought it would of died a death by now. Credit due, i suppose.

Is anyone from the Bitfunder/BTC-TC days, still playing this market place?

Ah, those were the days....

am I the only one who just received 0.00010000 BTC in their ASICMINER address? I am writing this one off as spam but it would be interesting if more people received this 'ping'

Check your receiving address out on blockchain.info. The probability is high that there is an advertising text in the comment field, advertising some scam site or so.

This kind of spam is relatively common unfortunately.

I doubt it has something to do with Asicminer.

No spam here, long term hodler.

What kind of professor are you?

Just an ordinary professor.  I cannot do miracles.  If students just repeat any bullshit that they read, without thinking critically, I cannot help them...

if the price can adjust then demand will always equal supply.  The price for fees can change, more wallets need to implement this feature tho. That is all that is needed for there to be no queues.

The "fee market" idea is nonsense in so many levels that I don't know where to begin. I give up.

Bitcoin's story is "nerds and libertarians learning the basics of how the world works, the hard way".  The "fee market" will be another lesson: "how to manage a lemonade stand."

This guy gets it. +1 for making me laugh.

For what it's worth, I've enjoyed this pool and appreciate all the hard work that has been put into it.  Admittedly, I've not personally mined in a while, but I'm sad to see it come to an end.
