Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion

I think we test 100k a couple more times and that will determine the next major movement. Personally, I'm thinking of taking some profit if we test 100k and fail.

No, I'm dreading it to be honest. My father has been given months to live, so I'm going into the new year's celebrations knowing full well that it's the last I'll get to spend with my family. In some ways that's kinda beautiful, but yeah...going to be a rough one no doubt.

Re: Will NFTs make a comeback?
by

I think they might get a little pump, but ultimately for me they were a hype-train and a short-term phase in the grander scheme of things. I don't see them returning. I think the use case is solid, i.e. it's a good use of blockchain to provide provenance for art, but let's be real very little of the NFT boom was actually "art" and I the market for AI art is small.

There will be a pump with any Opensea token, but I think they've had their day. Which, I believe, is why Ethereum has also had its day and why it's currently lagging behind. Previous cycle it was memecoins and NFTs propelling Ethereum - memes have gone to Solana, NFTs are dead...so what next?

This a double-edged sword IMO. I think it will be good for crypto as a whole due to the publicity, but it's bad in a sense that it'll be somewhat centralised being that it's run by facebook. I imagine it will fairly stable, as others have suggested, as you'll probably purchase it directly through FIAT, I guess? In theory I don't see any reason to buy and hold, or as an investment, it'll just essentially be like a global currency...therefore, it won't be as easily manipulated and fluctuating.

I think that perhaps short-term = good, medium to long-term = not so good.

hey OP are you planning on updating and making this a live thread - I think there would be great value in that. I only just discovered this thread, but notice that most of those listed are about to close.

Re: We are only rich on spreadsheets
by
diguyo
on 13/02/2020, 12:25:00 UTC
The point about being only rich on spreadsheets is right though - there is no true profit until you sell out of your investment. Up until that point it's essentially all hypothetical - it's not like it's a FIAT investment with a fixed value, it's only worth what the current price and if you sell.

On bounties, I definitely think there is a case of projects using bounty hunters to further their message without offering much in return...but this has always been the case and really is the whole point is it not? The difference is just that in 2020 there are more projects/increased competition and the market isn't as healthy vs 2017. Supply and demand = less profit in bounty hunting.

Re: Traders be careful

These signal groups have been popular for years, and to be fair you can find some decent ones. It's very profitable for people to learn trading techniques and then leverage these to provide signals and get people to pay for membership. It's hard to consistently be successful though and a lot of them seem to lose interest/make enough money and then pack it in.

One thing infuriates me with these signal traders. If you have two coins and one makes 15% profit and the other makes 20%, this DOES NOT EQUAL 35% profit. It's awful maths, and I see it from all of them...please, take these claims with a pinch of salt. These are people who don't even understand percentages nevermind the complexities of trading.

Re: Anyone still earning with bounties?
by

on 13/02/2020, 12:15:25 UTC
From where we were in 2017 the model has changed. IEOs/ICOs have reduced the opportunity to earn bounties....but that's also systematic of the difficult time crypto has had in the last two years. Should we find ourselves in a bull market again, and "alt season" really kick in....I'm sure we'll see bounties pick up again. Not sure they will ever reach the profitability heights of 2017, but don't see things getting much worse than they are now.

Re: Investment Advice for year 2020
by
diguyo
on 13/02/2020, 12:12:56 UTC
It all depends on how risk averse you are really. The fact that you've come here suggests that you're fairly comfortable with high risk, given the volatility of crypto, but there's a significant difference between Bitcoin on alts. I'd always suggest you start with Bitcoin and have a majority holding that - don't rush into any alt project, but there are a lot of them that are useless. Know that in Bitcoin you've got the most stable asset, which might not be doing x10, but has much more potential for growth than most stocks and other investments out of the crypto space...you should be comfortable with that. Don't succumb to greed and emotion, analyse projects and make informed decisions.

Re: So, Crypto Market ALL RED Again!!
by
diguyo
on 08/08/2018, 10:12:30 UTC
In the past few months, the market has had no new capital, low trading volume and the bad news made the market difficult to grow. Any market that wants to but does not have any reasons, motivation can boost the market. Many factors affecting Bitcoin do not increase the value of it, so this condition can last for a few months.

I think this is pretty accurate. New money was what was driving the price towards the end of last year, all of a sudden everyone wanted in on the hype and was trying to buy up some cryptos. That wave has died down now, people are not talking about it in the same way. Blockchain keeps getting mentioned in marketing circles, but nothing about bitcoin or cryptocurrencies. I think the challenge is, that perhaps people have gotten more educated on the topic and have started to ask themselves why these currencies exist, and for many of the projects I've genuinely no idea.

Re: Will NEO become strong?
by

on 08/08/2018, 10:02:04 UTC
I've got a lot of confidence in NEO and I'm taking these moments now to accumulate more and more. I'm positive that it will grow from strength to strength - multiple projects back in January had NEO reaching 1k $ this year....now, I don't think this is possible anymore, considering the market, but I refer to it purely to show confidence in the project. It was singled out for its potential at the start of the year, and that potential hasn't changed...just the market landscape. This is a good long term investment.

No. It's like listening to your grandparents talk about smartphones or any other type of technology. Politicians themselves have no idea what blockchain and cryptocurrencies are...some guy who's probably googled blockchain for dummies has slipped a couple of keywords into their speech.

I personally dont think RIpple is a good investment. The project itself is fine, but there's no need for the coin/tokens and therefore I don't see them having much of a future unfortunately. I think you're better off investing elsewhere.

I think you should google lists of altcoins that are hotly tipped by others, and also do your own research. The reason I say look at others is that I'm assuming you're quite new. Alts have the greatest room for growth long term.

Re: Token goes down. Wait or sell?
by

More or less everything will fall as BTC does. So it's not the best time to judge. The more riskier investments are the biggest fallers because people jump to BTC to minimise loss. If you are confident in your investment and got involved for the right reasons (i.e. as a long term believe in the project, team etc. rather than a quick win) then you should hold.

Re: Why invest in altcoin?
by
diguyo
on 02/08/2018, 13:27:39 UTC
Investing in altcoins right now might not seem like a good idea, because they're generally bleeding quite heavily. However, they have limitless potential in terms of potential growth and value. BTC being the opposite. The biggest challenge is identifying strong projects that can make a difference in the world, that actually have worth and a future.
