Re: The Four Phases of Bitcoin Growth

I remember having read that prediction in the past, perhaps even in 2013. No one in their right mind would have believed it would really go up almost as predicted here. I agree with the view that the early adopters phase ended in 2011.

However, early or not - what really mattered was whether you were able to hodl while the price skyrocketed. True for other assets (APL early adopter anyone?) but if you went from cents to dozens of dollars, you had to be insane not to sell. 100s and even 1000s of coins at the time, of course. Noone would have a sold at that price if we were talking only about single coins or fractions back then.

Cheers and good luck hodling everyone.

Hi there, I mined 0.00040696 BTC in more or less dust a few years ago and was never able to get a payout.

Is there a minimum payout treshold for Kano? Do you think there's any chance I could get my BTC out?

Username is disclaimer201, same as here. Cheers!

This actually worked now! I had tried this a year ago and it wouldn't send me a reset mail. Now I'm back to my old 2011 account. Thanks and happy mining!!!

Hi there,

I have been away from mining for a longer time. I opened a new account but was wondering if my original account "disclaimer201" still exists somewhere at Slush? I think I lost it and access to it when the pool website switched to the new design.

If it's gone okay, but it would be nice if there was some way to retrieve it. On top of the fun, I also discontinued using my old mail address, but I could reactivate it just for the purpose of recovering the account, if possible.

Thanks, happy new year 2020 to everyone and good luck mining to all!

You will need access to the mail address that is connected with the account.
With this mail address you can ask for a password reset:

Ignore the scale and the low prices. But this is how it might play out. Perhaps, history repeats itself. It took over a year for prices to recover and even longer for them to skyrocket again.

Can we be certain our documents will be safe?

I'm not comfortable giving out my documents like my passport and proof of address, birth certificate or a utility bill for "just" 50 BTC at a price of what, a few Dollars per BTC. If there would be any distribution of the original amount of BTC in BTC that would be an entirely different story, however it doesn't look like this is anywhere near happening after all these years.

Re: Possible big Crash coming within 10 days
by

There are a number of things that can happen. 1) Price will continue to go up. 2) Price will crash back to a level somewhere between 1400-2000 Dollars. 3) Price will appear to crash to 1400-2000 Dollars but simply dives a few hundred and goes back up. 4) Price will go down in waves, similar to the way it increased before. Number 4 is my favorite and particularly painful if you sold at or near the highest price yesterday, bought back today thinking you are a genius but find the price to be a hundred lower tomorrow. Tomorrow, you will buy some more (it's so cheap!) and price plummets by another hundred the next day. Although usually number 3 happens, scenario 4 has happened before and fucked everyone up, but a few very large players.

Take a look at all charts from 24 hours (or even less) to 2 years (or all time).   Almost exponential growth lately, 200k unconfirmed transactions and the scaling issue not solved as of today. The WannaCry attack was attention for BTC, but put it in a bad light again. Now, what do you think? Are we in a bubble?

Price has dumped today so I will not sell them right now and will buy more bitcoins at this price as it will give me higher amount of coins at lower price and price can rise again and get back to $1200 level in next few days so at that time will sell some of them to get quick profits.

It is too early to buy back until you know where the bottom is. Sorry, price will not go back to 1200 anytime soon. I believe it will take months and we will see prices falling lower and lower every week. Sentiment has changed to a full bear market. Hodl your coins until next year and buy back very low, all will be fine.

So even with the disapproval Bitcoin still is currently around £1080 here, so is it still worth it to buy some BTC's now? Or to wait for a drop (who knows when)?

And is it worth investing in some other Altcoins?

*sorry am still a noob to this

It's hard to say. Clearly, OP is a total FUDster and was once again wrong. ETF disapproval has not caused a new bear market, at least there is no sign for it yet. I have thought about altcoins as well, but because what I've seen in the years before, I haven't dared to touch altcoins ever since. My idea would be to buy the next leg down, but only if it goes down considerably.

If that ever happened, which I seriously doubt, price would tank much more than 50%. The panic and the confusion could be catastrophic for people's trust that their currency is worth what they paid for, trust is by far the most important asset for BTC. Once it's gone...we would see at least 75% price loss, I'm sure.

This setup doesn't seem too smart to me unless there is some ventilation at the back. But what I see there is a wall. Where does fresh air come from? It won't help too much with keeeping the noise in check either. But prove me wrong...

Price just dropped almost $300, did a negative decision come out?

I think it was denied. I read an article online that stated that the ETF was not approved. I assume it is legit, but I would have expected the price to drop even more than it has.

A lot of people around the world didn't get the memo yet. The price will likely fall further once everyone and their mother realized the ETF thing was just a hype. It will take a while, maybe a day. Others will be happy to make money shorting and some might sell just because others are selling. Perhaps a good idea to postpone buying for a bit longer.

Re: Should I backup my bitcoin? How do you backup yours?
by
disclaimer201

I keep my coins on my vanity address created by vanitygen

Use the public key (address) to check coins received on any web explorer.

If need to make a payment I use electrum.

Transfer the coins to the address i am making payment to and the remaining coins to a new vanitygen address.

Did you use an online vanitygen? I wouldn't trust that as far as I could throw it!
I use Electrum and the seeds are my form of 'back up'

Trezors sounds good, but I fear that a hardware glitch could lose my coins. I have heard that they are still recoverable in this case, but if that is the case, it means that the Trezor icn't really that secure anyway!

Don't click on links, use strong and unique passwords, keep your antiviruses upto date.

Your assumption isn't correct. If a hardware error should appear or you lose your Trezor, you can use the hand written seed and recover the coins just the same as you could with any other wallet using seeds. Just don't ever lose your seed and or destroy/lose your Trezor. Furthermore, Trezor is compatible with electrum and you could recover it by using another Trezor. But hey, no hardware issues for the past two years here.

I very much like the paper wallet idea mentioned above and will start to look into electrum as well just because downloading 100gb will take forever. I suggest people who are running full nodes need to be reimbursed in some way for keeping the system up and running and decentralized! Currently I am using a hardware wallet (Trezor) that will allow me to keep my private keys private and at the same time be able to connect it to a computer with internet connection. Also, no downloading of the blockchain necessary, and there is a back-up option via electrum for Trezor.

There is only one way this is even worth waiting for after all these years. If we can get back any half-way considerable amount in Bitcoins. I lost about 50 Bitcoins back then and at ten bucks a piece, why would one even bother to still care for 500 bucks so many years later?! I understand some of the claimants are owed hundreds or thousands of bitcoins. Everyone probably went long on with their lives...

Re: How high would Bitcoin price have to be for you to live off Bitcoin?
by

Well, how DO you live off Bitcoin, even if you had an amount of coins if there are no interests to be earned? At one point, all your bitcoins are spent unless the price really shoots up to insane highs. Not everyone is able to start a bitcoin business or has a viable business idea, or the programming skills to do so. Seems to be that investing with bitcoin is incredibly hard to do since you cannot just send the coins to someone you trust on the internet just hoping she/he will pay you back with interest.

Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins?
by
disclaimer201
on 07/01/2017, 21:28:28 UTC
I I had 100 Bitcoins to store I would look into creating a paper wallet for a large amount and keep some on "Trezor" and up to one on or less on a device to spend btc on the go. I would certainly not keep the coins on a desktop wallet with 100+gb data to download on a computer that is always connected to the internet and I would not mess around with wallet.dat files on a dozen usb drives and I would never ever keep them at blockchain.info or some other 3rd party service.
