Just finished this one yesterday. My first rig was in a nice case and all but this one I was trying to save as much money as possible. The only things I bought were 2 x 6950's, 2 PCIe to PCI32 adapter cards and an ANTEC 750 WATT PSU. The motherboards are some old crap ones I had lying around. One is out of a DELL computer as you might recognize and the top one is a shitty PC Chips mobo (hate this motherboard, the only thing its good for is mining).

The top PSU is an old ULTRA 700 WATT and is powering the hard drives, fans and top motherboard. The bottom PSU is the new ANTEC which is powering the two 6950's and bottom motherboard. At first I tried running 1 card off the old Ultra but that didn't smell to good lol.... I grounded the two together to try and illuminate any floating point ground there might be. So far its been mining straight for about a day with no problems. On the right side is a breadboard circuit I quickly threw together to start both at the same time. I first was just pushing both power buttons at once but that gave odd results sometimes if you were off Tongue .

Currently the DELL motherboard is beating the PC Chips board at 343 Mhash/s at 900 MHz core. The PC Chips board is at 336 Mhash/s with 900 MHz core. Both can go a bit faster with -f 1 but I haven't test that to much yet. Both running Ubuntu 11.04, SDK 2.4 with latest drivers. The temps are nice, top card is ~62C and bottom card is ~58C with fans at 65%.

All in all I'm pretty damn proud of the monster (or mess) I've created.

Yeah I use to pool hop months ago but it kinda died off. I don't think its profitable any longer to do so with hopable pools switching their reward systems to a more hop proof algorithm. I tried mining LTC yesterday. I let it go for 24 hours. I got roughly 40 LTC @ 0.006 BTC = 0.24 BTC . With mining bitcoin I get 0.33 BTC per 24 hours. So I guess on my setup LTC isn't the most profitable.

I may give p2pool a try. What would be a better pool to mine at. Currently (don't shoot me) I'm mining at deepbit. I know I've read that its the least profitable pool.

Best option for someone GPU mining?

Well I haven't been here in months and so I've missed a lot. I see that FPGA / ASIC mining has pretty much taken over now. I still have my GPU miners running. They don't make much, pays the electric bill and maybe an extra $20 for my self each month. I'm just wondering if any one can point me in the right direction as to what pool would be best for someone still GPU mining. I hear good things about p2pool. I also read that LTC is more profitable to mine than BTC at the moment but I can't see how that is with the current exchange of 1 LTC = 0.006 BTC.

So basically what would be the best thing I could / should do if I still wanted to GPU mine?

Re: will PCI to PCI-E Expresscard Card Adapter work with old desktops?

I just bought alot of old desktops and they all have pci slots, will this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-PCI-E-Expresscard-Card-Adapter-3-3V-5V-12V-New-/170622796586?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b9e9432a#ht_3413wt_1164) enables me to put ATI radeon pcie cards in them?

If you have old motherboards with PCI slots and want to use PCIe cards then you will need this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/PCI-32bits-PCI-E-express-16X-riser-card-adapter-/320693561785?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aaad369b9

I've bought 2 my self and can say they work quite well. Some say it lowers hash rate but I have not noticed any difference in performance from the cards.

Rejecting my wallet address. While I'd love a non-btcguild pool I kind of need a way to get paid...

Payouts are working good for me. Try now, looks like the server was restarted.

Ok he is pretty cool.

He just thought we were attacking his site.

You all should be unbanned now.

Make sure you use the json api.. which you should be using if you have the latest bithopper.

He didnt understand hopping and the traffic does resemble an attack.

anyways you can hop back on.

I hop to see him soon.

I sliced right in.

bitHopper has only switched to deepbit once in the past 4 hours and never switched to it again. Using latest version.

It's at 901%
