PXE/NFS diskless

We need to talk. Smiley

Once I get some of my hardware setup I would like to talk about your PXE setup.

Happy to help.. it's quite painful to get working right initially, but once it is, it's ... delightful to maintain.. and bringing up new hardware is so quick it makes it all worthwhile.

Figured I'd share pictures of one of the mining racks..

8 machines, all rack mounted, corsair Power supplies, 890FXA-GD70, Athlon x2's 2G ram, 27 ATI/AMD cards mix of 58xx,69xx, PXE/NFS diskless, runs mid 9 GH most days. cgminer set to auto-fan 20%-100%, target temp 80C.

Sigh. Thank you for continuing to maintain Armory, hadn't realized the tribulations.

Sorry to hear your tale of woe, Mine is far simpler.

Life happens, been busy, haven't touched BTC in about 12 months. Consolidating coin. Forgot about Armory wallet with big pile of coin in it. Start Armory 0.91, too old, needs bitcoin/etc updates, Update, hangs/crashes repeatedly. Backup wallet (digital, unencrypted), remove all traces of Armory, install fresh, import wallet, have repeated troubles with 0.95.1 taking forever to start, like others in this thread. Failing to start at all, like others in the thread, but I've been trying for a week..

.. and here we are.

What is the address chain length on your wallets? Did you restore them from a paper backup before syncing 0.95? Try extending the address chain in offline mode before rescanning. Also, what is the top block displayed in the bottom right?

Been all over the client, in expert mode, can't find the "address chain length", either where to change it, or extend it.

I do see a decent amount of "-ERROR - 1480706621: (..\BitcoinP2P.cpp:865) caught BitcoinP2P_Exception in processDataStackThread: invalid header size" in the ArmoryDB console however. I'll work on getting you logs. Pastebin ok?

Block count in lower right corner is: {will update once we're not OFFLINE again from restarting the client to get to expert mode}

1) Please don't hijack somebody else's thread, create your own and post your log files.

People providing data about about the same problem isn't a hijack, it's an attempt to help find a solution to a problem.

2) There is a difference between allocated memory (malloc) and mapped files (mmap). The usage figures show you total RAM load, but the distinction is significant: allocated memory belongs to the process while mapped files boils down to hinting the OS that you want these files cached in RAM for faster access. Mapped memory does not prevent new allocations, it simply uses otherwise free resources to speed up I/O.

You are correct, I misread it.. it hammers the machine so hard it -acts- like it's completely out of ram and into swap.

3) This is an open source project, feel free to submit code if you have a better solution, or at least participate to the testing phases and provide constructive feedback and bug tracking.

True.

I hope you understand peoples frustration here...a product, free or not, they've been using, has become, for whatever reason, impossible to use, monopolizing their machines, and most importantly, holding their BTC hostage.

Speaking of which, after another over-night run, the client finally appears happy and caught up, except all the wallets have zero balance. Rescan gave zero change.

help?

Been having a hell of a time the last week trying to get Armory to start.. Same symptoms, taken the same steps as others, still haven't been able to get it ever "complete" so I could move coins around.

FWIW, even with the suggested command line switches, ArmoryDB still uses 100% of the system RAM within 60 seconds.

Running on a 8 core 32G machine, all SSD.. shouldn't be this bad.

Running Bitcoin-QT/BitcoinD on their own, just fine, current and up to date on the block count.
ArmoryDB.exe --db-type=DB_BARE --ram-usage=1 == ram flatlined, sits on Organizing Chain a *LONG* time.. have waited a couple times then it's building TX -- FOREVER.

Once I get my coins out, I'm not -ever- running Armory again. To have to dedicate 2x the blockchain size just to run the client is unreasonable. 200G of SSD, 8 cores 32G to run a wallet?

I agree that you can't trust anyone but I wish I know how to stole a card...

So many things wrong here...  Huh

Sadly, it's very easy to buy card data. Turning stolen cards into cash is not easy, but people still try.. like buying amazon gift cards and selling them for bitcoin... or buying MSDN subscriptions and selling keys.

Honestly, I won't buy Amazon gift cards for BTC any more, without a 45 day escrow.. .Nobody else should either.

We've been burned too many times by Amazon removing the card value from my account 25-30-35 days later when the seller turned out to have used a stolen card to buy the Gift card he sold you.

Pity, because I loved getting 10%/20%/etc off..

So now I use purse.io and avoid the gift cards.

[WTS] (30) Antminer S3's, in original boxes, ebay listing
by
dlasher
on 27/05/2015, 20:14:07 UTC
Realized I hadn't created a post here for them, so here goes..ebay auction found here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121660010613

-------------------

(Price Reduced, all miners must go! - Currently $99 buy-it-now)

We lost our lease, so it's time to sell.

It's been a good run, but our landlord is moving, and the power costs in his new location are 3x... So it's time to hand off these great miners to someone with cheaper power. Our loss, your gain.

These Bitmain Antminer S3's have been used in a temperature controlled, filtered-air environment, which means unlike some of the other miners for sale on Ebay, these have a lot of life left in them. They'll be packed in the original boxes, and as a bonus, will include PCI-E 8 Pin to Dual 8, adapters, which allow you to run each miner on (2) 8-pin power connectors, instead of 4. This is also a safer way to run the miners, than just connecting (2) of the (4) power connectors.

The official specs for the S3 are listed below, but anyone who has owned the S3's knows each individual miner is different. Because your environment may not match the 65' datacenter these S3's were run in, I can make no guarantees as to performance or overclocking. Each S3 has been restored to factory default settings, and latest firmware, and will work right out of the box. YMMV.

Please note: This auction does not include a power supply. You will need to supply your own. I've had tremendous luck with both the EVGA 1300W and the Silverstone 1350W, each powering (3) miners.

Shipping Costs: I'd love to offer free shipping, but shipping costs have gone up a lot in the last year, and these are odd-shaped, 5lb boxes. That means normal ground shipping will be around $15 per box for most US addresses.

---------------------------

Feel free to use the buy-it-now off ebay, or send me an offer.. Happy to accept Bitcoin as well.

I send first tho so scamming is a clear-cut never appearing scenario. And my uncle has won major leagues in hunting

Sending first doesn't matter with Amazon since these cards can be charged back even after someone redeems them successfully!

the only way you should buy amazon gift cards is with a 60-day escrow..

I don't have the build environment to create a full binary image, and the code will need a LOT of work to actually become part of mainline cgminer it seems, but for the time being here is a link to a bugfixed binary of cgminer 4.6.0 for the S3 based on the bitmain code. Copy the file into /usr/bin/ on the S3 overwriting the existing one:
http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.0-140908/cgminer

Couple of days of running under 4.6.0 now, and very happy. CPU load lower, and less hashrate variance.

I have bricked a S3 with an improperly downloaded frimware upgrade,  does anyone know if there is a way to reflash the firmware or to do a hard reset (holding reset button did not work) without being able to access the GUI?

RMA

Pull the board, return it.

wait.

I also noticed  the load average is way lower on the CPU now that it was.  was always above 2 before.  now hovers around 1.2.  any additional benefit to these devices to run with lower/higher loads?
That's likely the advantage of the newer version. In principle it will lead to less lag time in keeping the device busy and less time to process and send shares. However cgminer is so heavily multithreaded that it probably won't matter since the latency critical parts of the cgminer code are already prioritised.

Pushed 4.6 to (60) S3's, they're all working great.. (60 minutes runtime). Thank you sir, much appreciated!

So I have (1) S3 that will let out a single beep every couple minutes, but the rest don't. Is there some stat in cgminer I should be looking for? Queue depth perhaps?

Of how many?  What firmware?  Are you using a pool that it is loosing a connection to with the original firmware?.

I know my beeped alot until i turned the beeper off. ;-)  it seemed each time the multi-pool i was using changed work load it would take the miner a minute to get going and beep.

original shipping firmware, and 1 out of 30 beeps. not sure which one however.. Smiley

My Bet is the S4. 2TH, 1400W.
