For Loss harvesting

I've been buying and selling bitcoin to loss harvest bout $40k in unrealized $BTC gains.

But it's not showing up on my losses on cointracking.

Can you not quickly buy and sell for tax loss harvesting?

for instance if I had $10k on an exchange could I quickly buy and sell the $10k back and forth 4 times until the $40k is realized??

Hey is there a way to get your total USD value that you've put into cryptos?

Would that be the "Total Value of All Currencies" which is about -$50k

So that means I spent 50k in USD to buy these cryptos?

I'm just a little confused by the wording.

Suggestion to Cointracking

Could you have more advanced total PORTFOLIO charts, reports etc.

I know you have the basic pie chart on the dashboard (but this doesn't show percentages unless you hover over the sections)
It would be better if you had a more adanced pie chart as that's what most people are buying for to see their total percentage allocation.

Also please update more exchanges like Gemini, Binance, Kucoin etc... API

I thought it would be more automated, but I trade constantly and am having to manually download then upload csvl files multiple times a day....

There are several really good documentaries on Amazon prime, netflix etc.  They explain some of the history of crypto, the current banking system, and even go into individual pssychologies during the up and down roller coaster of bitcoin.  The best and most important advice from all the learning and what everyone promotes is to just HODL during the downswings and BUY on the DIPS.

Seriously if you just take those two things and think long term your investments willl be solid
Learn as much as you can about blockchain tech, fundamentals of investing, but really just keep  HODLING long term

I'm actually leaning towards CoinTracking.com
Yeah it has more fees but if you're making money this tracks you automatically using APIs

The other one's don't track u automatically so you can get lost accross all the different wallets exchanges etc.

Havving the APIs auto update is key... you can actually do real accounting and report taxes etc.  You can track multiple accounts and they just AUTOMATICALLY update.  Although I like the graphics on Altpocket.io and the cleaness it does not get supported by a lot of the main exchanges and doesn't support the new exchanges.

https://cointracking.info?ref=C669500  This referral fee gives you 10% off.  But it's free for the first 200 trades.. after that it's $200 for a year unfortunately... but if you can keep track of your portfolio it's worth it. Because properly tracking your portfolio means you can make much more than $200 even in a day or a few good trades/ portfolio balancing.

You gotta stay diversified in this wild west of altcoins, icos, even diversified over wallets, exchanges etc
It's just hard as hell to properly tracck all this

Thoughts on buying Ripple at todays price and just HODLing for ALL of 2018?

I'm in the USA, I don't want to pay short term capital gains (48%) I'd rather pay Long term holding capital gains of (15%)

I'm trying to figure this out too.  There's a poll of the top coins going on twitter:  https://twitter.com/CryptoREI/status/947940161953742848

My thoughts are
30% Bitcoin
30% Ethereum
20% Ripple
20% LTC

For just holding long term for ALL of 2018 long term hold

Re: 2018 Buy and HODL strategy. 5 coins to choose
by

Do you think BTC can really moon as compared to ripple or LTC?  like will BTC go to $50k in 2018 (3-4x) or will LTC more likely go up to $1000 5x

Shouldn't you diversify in this market when BTC is only at 33% market share dominance?  There's so many newer coins that are picking up and having much higher returns...even the next shorter one's could take more gains right?

I totally believe in BTC for the long run, but am also questioning it and playing devils advocate versus the altcoins.

2018 Buy and HODL strategy. 5 coins to choose
by
dontomas12345
on 02/01/2018, 04:26:33 UTC
Hello if you could only pick amongst Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin to BUY and HODL for ALL of 2018 what would you pick and in what ratios?

If you could only choose amongst the top 5 to buy and hold all year. Which strategy would have best gains and less risk?

For instance you could do 40% BTC, 30% Eth and 30% LTC.....  OR 50% BTC, 50% BCH..... or  33% BTC, 33% Eth, 33% Ripple......  or 100% BTC.

Hi can someone help explain how to set up your API to have it automatically track and update?

For instance with Binance and GDAX?

This is for holding for ALL of first quarter of 2018.  Jan-Mar
So for cryptocurrencies that's a LONG TERM HOLD

25% Bitcoin BTC
25% Ethereum
20% Ripple
15% Bitcoin Cash
10% Litecoin
5% Nav Coin / Monero (for privacy)

Thoughts? (I also have another $10k in alts I play with)

Am I holding too little Bitcoin?  I feel like it might not go up as fast as the alts do to catch up.  Even ethereum might have more gains no?

I've been watching and also partaking in some of mcaffees pumps.  Some like Reddcoin have held up even after the initial pump.  Other's are so volatile.  Verge has been up and down so much after his initial pump then some controversial news.

Anyways his pump/dumps are being less effective now, as people realize what's going on and you can buy in at the wrong time

I was curious about the crypto portfolio trackers that automatically update with each trade.  Do they just sync?

I have seen a couple but I didn't know about doing my API... like which one is trustworthy tooo

I think some of the picks are decent.  Verge is good, a little over valued though.  I like REDD Coin as well for the long run.  It comes with a solid community with a lot of tech savvy developers.  Social network is solid for cryptos in the long run.  Redd coin is s imilar to steem but under valued I think the platform and tech will just get better...

Re: Stop talking, start acting: let us all fight again BCC right now!

All of the people who will be shouting against BCH won't hold any so they're completely powerless to be able to do anything. They can buy bitcoin and boost that but they can't do anything against BCH.

Actually we could use more news coverage about BCash being an altcoin and not the real Bitcoin.

Now they lure newbies (and speculators!) into their world of manipulation, some will fall for this.
I believe that they are the ones also orchestrating the spam attack the network is facing lately.

I'm relatively new (2 months) and a macro-speculator.  Definitely falling for this FUD

What are your projections on these coming forks?:

Bitcoin Unlimited
Bitcoin Platinum Dec. 12 ?
Bitcoin Cash Plus Jan 2 2018
Bitcoin Silver       ?
Bitcoin Uranium      ?
Bitcoin God Dec. 25 2017
Bitcoin Atom        ?

Any of them to be concerned with as far as affect on total market or something similar to BCH/BCC?  Could any of them actually have potential to distrupt the market.

Forgive me I'm feeling major FUD due to the coinbase/debacle as I lost a ton of my newly added portfolio...  Undecided

I'm hoping BTC goes down in the short run so I can buy more and HODL in next coming weeks.

I think BTC will go down to $12k based on TA

BTC is still gold in long run

Re: What are your asset allocations for Bitcoin versus Altcoins? PORTFOLIO
by
dontomas12345
on 20/12/2017, 15:24:49 UTC
Yes litecoin allocation is a bit high. Take out some from litecoin and invest in ETN.

Thanks I think I will unload some of the LTC. Buy some Bitcoin Gold just to diversify... I think yesterday's volatility just shows how crazy this is and that we need to DIVERSIFY and allocate into different portions.  I'm holding about 80% in the top ten coins

general guidelines like:
30-70% BITCOIN/BTC/Bitcoin Gold
10-30% Platforms like EOS, ETH, IOTA
10-20% Privacy coins
5-10% Altcoins

Good spread. Make more investment in AltCoins.

After tonights rollercoaster .  I guess I was right-I thought BTC should go to $15k-17k levels,  For my portfolio. I'm thinking :

50% BTC

20% ETH

10% BCH (BCC)

20% Alt Coins

Thoughts?

Looks like BCH might make some big moves... but at same time I still believe in BTC for long run (6 months-2 years+)  Should I have even more in alts?  Or more in Bitcoin cash BCH??  Thoughts?
