Received ordered devices today, wasn't 24h but that's UPS's fault...
@BitAddict would you mind getting the shipping costs from ups back?
The package was sitting a full 24h at your UPS base and as UPS does not deliver Saturdays another day at mine...

Cheers!

As said before: You need to find the setting for your card means "ALL OF IT" the combination is the key, also the ratio of engine to ram clocks is important. For example I get no more than 230 KH/s if I underclock ram but above 400 KH/s with standard clocks (my card is already OCed makes me wonder what happens when I go to reference clocks).

So guys, ckolivas asked me some hours ago to report back with a "windows lost again" setup!

MSI 6970 Lightning @945c/1375m

Code:
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=0
was set to 1 for bitcoins cpu hogging
Code:
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=40
you need to get the value specific for your card set! 100 crashes kernel for me 30 drops hashrate to 70kh/s
Code:
./cgminer --scrypt --shaders 1538 -I 16
Yes, exactly! I did not set anything else..
Results in
Code:
GPU 0:                |  428.2/ 434.0Kh/s | A:11354 R:140 HW:0 U:24.57/m I:16

for windows it was some like 390Kh/s with U averaging at <22/m

Long story short! hallelujah!

The "thread restarting" works finally! Even with only one thread becoming sick the miner restarts properly!

I tested every git update against it to keep ck posted and finally - 5 mins ago I could confirm a restart!
Having a buggy card is at least good for testing!

Code:
13:24 <@chem|st> restarted itself
13:25 <@ckolivas> and working fine?
13:25 <@ckolivas> normal rate and both threads??
13:25 <@chem|st> both threads but one is slower than the other
13:25 <@chem|st> ok balances now
13:25 <@ckolivas> sweet mother of god \o/
13:25 <@chem|st> \o/
13:25 <@ckolivas> halleluyah
13:26 <@chem|st> that was a very long progress to get this shit working fine!
13:26 <@chem|st> good work buddy!
13:26 <@ckolivas> thanks man
13:26  * ckolivas weeps
13:26 <@ckolivas> tears of joy

Please consider some juice for the hard work, sweat and depression ck had with it: 148KkS2vgVi4VzUi4JcKzM2PMaMVPi3nnq

It'd be great to pull GPU info similar to GPU-Z and edit it, but radeonvolt only supports reference 5xxx series cards currently. Until the lack of more diverse I2C code is expanded upon, its utility is virtually nil for 6xxx and non-reference cards in general.

Messing with I2C is dangerous, proper code verification is needed to not harm hardware - as the looks of now radeonvolt - supporting only reference 5000 series seems in general not vital for normal users!

Back to topic please!

How to setup a cgminer using xubuntu 11.04 live on a USB

This is an awesome post which, imho, deserves its own thread.

Reported to mods allready, nice post but just not useful in here.

(how to setup any ubuntu-on-a-pendrive has 100s of howtos in the internets... setting up a miner on pendrives is nothing else than on a normally installed system; although there are some limits with pendrives as you just should never hit apt-get upgrade if it is installed from a live-cd)

Yes, I'm persistent.

I've found that with a -g 1 it does not happen anymore (it's been running for half a hour now), but I loose a couple Mh/s.

spiccioli.

ps. I had to install curl since it's not installed in linuxcoin by default.

BTW, cgminer found 128 as optimal worksize, but using -w 256 gives me 3-5Mh/s more juice, steady Smiley

So now I'm forcing it to -w 256 ( and -g 1 -I 8 -w 256 -Q 2 ).

It is running at 361 on my 880/270 5850 and 444 on my 980/280 5870

spiccioli.

MH rate gets irrelevant at the point where shares/minute come to play, I can get +10MH with -I 14 but -2 shares/minute, 128 or 256 doesn't make a difference in terms of shares/per minute, got one rig with 3 5850s and one with 1 plus a 6950... after a couple of hours the 3x does ~1080MHs/s ~15 shares/min @"-w 256" and the other with "-w 128" does 729MHs/s ~10 shares both with "-I 8". It might do a difference in the hashrate but the shares/minute seem to be stable at the same rate after a couple of hours.
cards compared directly are about the same "U" but different hashrates...

I don't want to talk about the reasons why I cpu-mine. It leads to nothing but arguments.

All I want to know is how to get cgminer to work without an openCl-device.
I'm being a bit of an eco freak there Wink, you can do what ever you want... but ck wont do anything to cpu support if not paid for so I guess the calculation is important even if your cpu does 25MH/s!

Without opencl it should just say that there is no opencl and still compile without oCL support, have you tried with opencl (sdk, etc) installed to your system? (even if you do not use it...)

Can I skip that step somehow so it just mines with the CPU?

nothing personal Ali, it was just your post to let me become mad!

This thread is filled with CPU miners complaining about stuff, I do not get why you people still care that much about CPU mining?! My CPUs get 3MH/s each even my crappy 2 year old nvidia graphics does 28MH/s using less power... want it? 5 btc + shipping! If it is a game, pay for it before you play with it, you know ck's BTC address! You won't ever return any amount of investment with CPU mining. Let me do the math for you, ~2 valid shares/hour per core, 2 BTC sent to ck for fixing up some cpu related stuff in cgminer == 4.6 CPU-Years without increase in difficulty to pay the 2 BTC at current difficulty... think of the environment, you waste +95W for 2 BTC a year (reference is Athlon II X4 in this case and difficulty is not raised)...

Buy a $200 gpu and have it payed in 3-5 month including your powerbills... or buy the 2 BTC for $20

Deepbit's help page clearly shows the c-name.  Is this a bug in cg miner?

https://deepbit.net/help.php

I think you were missing the "http://" earlier, weren't you?

Sorry for the earlier confusion about the freaking workername layout, I stopped using deepbit as you have to use your login password for workers and there were no SSL/TLS in place, is it now?

For eligius or any other pool:
1-3% rejects is normal; everything <1% is fake or barely possible, like x8s did: it only rejected outdated shares which made it get <0.5%, for proportional only pools this makes sense in terms of saves trouble on the pools bitcoind side; for PPS it shouldn't accept any invalid outdated stale shares ever as the pool pays for them directly.

For login credentials:
user@domain.com_username2 wont work ever as .com_username2 is no toplevel domain any dns knows about. use proper json formated configs with "-c config.json" or use the commands "-o domain.com:port -u username -p password" and it might work

lol.. Wink

-w 256 is the correct work unit for ati 5870/5970/6950/6970/6990.

the correct worksize reported from the cards I have is 256 but they tune better on 128

also the correct vectors reported is 4 tuning in on 4 reduces mh/s by at least 30% for those cards

cgminer default (setting nothing) is vectors 2 and worksize 128

setting the worksize to 256 on my 5850 gets me 5 more MH/s and usually the card's thread freezes within minutes... means xserver stales means reboot (no kill -9)!

Re: JSON

Hi,

for JSON a sensible multi-host config would look like this:

{
…
connections: [
   {url: "http://foo.example.org:8332", username: "bar", password: "baz"},
   {url: "http://bar.example.org:8332", username: "baz", password: "quux"}
],
…
}

did you get a multihost config to work?

I try to make a new example-conf.json but

I don't... cgminer says no server specified

Code:
{"config":
        [
                {
                "url": "http://mining.eligius.st:8337",
                "user": "user",
                "pass": "pass"
                },
                {
                "url": "http://useast.btcguild.com:8332",
                "user": "user2",
                "pass": "pass2"
                },
                {
                "url": "http://pit.x8s.de:8337",
                "user": "user3",
                "pass": "pass3"
                }
        ]
}

Have other people had success with running cgminer with 6 gpus? Is it possible that it's not able to handle all 6 efficiently? This is happening on both my machines. Should I try other things like setting number of threads per GPU?

try -I 9 -Q 2 -g 3 for the start (aggro 9, 2 in queue 3 threads per GPU) as basic don't set anything else and then try through the different vector settings with -v
6970 is just what I have but more shaders... (6950) for me the "basics" work and I do not set vectors by hand, you can have a look what it does when you run only 4 cores with adding -d 0 -d 1 -d 2 -d 3

that's all I can guess from your readings
