I'm back after a few years off
by

Hey Bitcointalk crew,

I’m back after being away since January 13, 2022—feels like a lifetime in crypto! Back then, Bitcoin was hovering around $40K, and the market was wild with altcoin pumps and DeFi hype. Now, in 2025, I’m jumping back in and need to catch up. What’s changed, and what’s the vibe like here?

What did I miss?: From January 2022 to now, what’s the biggest shift in crypto? New chains, DeFi killer apps, or something else? Tell me what’s got you bullish or bearish in 2025.

Bitcointalk was always the raw, unfiltered heart of crypto discussion—still true?  Excited to hear from the OGs and newbies alike. Drop your insights, and thanks for helping me get back up to speed!

Cheers,

I like BNB a lot. I think it can easily go to 5k this bullrun. Sounds crazy, but the adoption is far from over.

Re: Which one is best and safest STABLE coin?

UST is by far the most stable and safest. It's 100% backed by the terra network.

It survived the may crash this year, so I think it has proven it's success.

Re: Twitter seems likely to integrate tipping using Bitcoin.
by

It sure seems like they're going to require KYC/AML. And while it sucks for sure, can we really blame them? It's highly like that Twitter allowing non-KYC money sending(even if it's just a front-end UI thing, not necessarily them facilitating the transactions) is just going to get themselves in trouble with the government.

In the end, while again— it sucks, this is still in no doubt positive in my book.

Agreed.

Regardless of how you look at it though this can't be bad news. KYC is totally expected with a company of this size.

Certainly will showcase to the world the potential that bitcoin has as a means of payment as well as a store of value, I think. These high profile endorsements of blockchain technology are certainly for the better.

im pretty sure they are not going to demand KYC. As long as you only tip with crypto, KYC is not required. KYC is only required once you are involved in fiat currencies.

Re: It’s crazy to take loan to invest in crypto?
by

If you consider that all countries basically have a negative interest rates, the only sane thing to do is borrow fiat, and send it into crypto to earn yield.
I have personally borrowed all the fiat the bank has allowed me to, and send it into celsius. It's giving me 8,88% APY which is more than enough to pay off the bank's 2% loan.

it's simple math.

NEVER  Shocked Shocked Shocked

The ones that decides this are the people that has invested heavily in mining hardware. Why would they move to PoS and make their whole investment worthless??

Infinity is a long time  Wink

It will last untill it's replaced by something better.

Just like fiat and gold is being replaced by crypto in these years. The only reason it hasn't happened yet, is because governments are trying to prevent it.

Re: Google bans 8 crypto apps

Both google and apple's app store, are a centralized store. They argue that this is to protect the user from malware, but in reality, it's only to maximise their profit.

A free appstore wouldn't let malware live for very long if based solely on reviews. 1 single negative review would almost for sure prevent anyone from downloading that app.

Re: Bitcoin could destroy economy

Once bitcoin becomes standard in every citizens life, we are going to see governments ban it and try to stop it. China allready did because they are not a democratic country.

The monetary policy that all countries are running, is a way to control the people. Lets just face it. even if you work your whole life, and save all the money you earn, you will never become free (rich). Bitcoin solves this, but what happens when the entired country's population doesn't have to work? Then nobody can pay for the governments salary.

Humans are often influenced by media and FUD from larger institutions. Its only the average joe that panic sells, the prof guys have it all under control.
Please also note that those panic selling are often only in this game short term....

It is better to store BTC in an online wallet, such as COINBASE .

Both have risks. Online wallets can get hacked. Though, coinbase is probably among the most secure places.

Re: Is Bitcoin anti-inflation?
by
dreamer81
on 12/08/2021, 12:42:56 UTC
There is still inflation in bitcoin. Merely 2% a year, which is healthy for the adoption rate of bitcoin.
Premined coins with no incentive to mine will die very fast.

All in all, the bitcoin protocol is so much more than software which can be forked, it's also at what rate the new coins are being mined, and how quick the rest of the world adopt bitcoin. If you miss by one parameter, it will fail.

Re: Can BTC exist without Fiat?
by
dreamer81
on 12/08/2021, 12:35:47 UTC
It can, but why should it? Let btc exist as the supreme curreny/asset, and let fiat handle all the day to day transactions.
This way you will get the best of both worlds.
