on 17/08/2015, 00:09:41 UTC
Hello, It’s been awhile since our last posting.
We have reached an agreement with Sfards Technology to be its North America ASIC chip sales representative. We will sell Sfards Technology’s latest 28nm FDSOI ASIC SF3301 (dual mining) chip samples in www.dualminer.com web store in the coming August. The sample package contains 40 production version of SF3301 chips. To help people speed up their own designs, Sfards will release two open source designs, 1) a single-chip USB dualminer, and 2)a single-chip reference design into Github in near future. The SF3301 has unique features compared to the other 28nm chips built with bulk CMOS processes in the areas of 1) The chip can be operated at a wide range of core voltages (Its low bound could be lower than that of bulk CMOS), 2) Using the forward body bias (FBB) technology, 3) FDSOI native low leakage characteristic. People could take advantage of these variables to design their own unique mining hardware solutions.
Pricing; 40 chip package @ $1,199 (or $29.98/chip) + shipping&handling
For people interested in purchasing this sample package, please contact us.
SF3301 ASIC chips are in stock for purchasing.

Then may be mining equipment ready to operation will be ready for sales in October-November and probably will be overpriced as those 40 chips for 1000+ USD. Again too late, again too expensive.
The $29.98/chip price is set for small-quantity sampling purposes. Customers will get volume discount when doing bulk purchases.

But I'm sure some Chinese farms will be already equipped (maybe alreade equipped) with SFARDS' miners. Again home miners stays without next gen quiet fast cold (so as dualmode) miner...
SF3301 ASIC is still preparing for mass production, so it's still in the early ramping up stage. Again, the SF3301 is the most efficient dual-algorithm 28nm ASIC in the world. I expect this chip could have long and good life cycle ahead.

Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production
by

Having the best power efficiency means little if the device is priced unreasonably. From this table the most reasonable setting for BTC mining seems to be 72GH/w at an efficiency of 0.32W/GH/s (efficiencies above 0.5W/GH/s have no advantage over current competitors' hardware). Let's compare that with an S5. You'd need 16 sfards chips @72GH/s to achieve 1155 GH/s. Each chip is currently offered for $30, so that's $480 just for the chips. Then you'd need to add the supporting hardware around it; printed circuit boards, a controller, DC-DC converters, supporting circuitry, a case, connectors ... and a markup. How much would such a miner sell for if  the chips themselves are $480? The S5 goes for $360 US ...

And in terms of efficiency, what's important is the *system* level efficiency; chip-level efficiency is not that useful beyond academic discussion. Even Spondoolies' current Rockerbox chip can easily be shown to achieve better than 0.4W per GH/s. Put those chips in a practical miner, with supporting circuitry and DC-DC converters, and you quickly see that chip-level efficiencies can no longer be achieved on a system level.

As far as I know, there are no 'practical miners' made with the SF3301 yet. And by 'practical' I'm referring to something that can compete on a GH/$ level with current miners such as the $360USD 1155GH/s S5. Until system-level specs are demonstrated for an sfards-based miner, there's little point in discussing chip-level efficiency.

Sure, the ultimate judgement will be the system level efficiency, but you have to have a good core chip level efficiency as a base to build upon it. We convinced Sfards to sell SF3301 to US market because this is a "big mining" chip, and requires good system level design expertise to make efficient  mining systems.
Regarding to pricing, the $29.98/chip price is set for small-quantity sampling purposes. Customers will get volume discount when their entering productions. Also, please keep in mind the LTC side of value this chip could bring in. I wish LTC price could recover continuously from here and keep for a long time ahead.

I can buy 100 LTC for a lot less then 40 of  these chips…

SF3301 chip does have the best power efficiency in both BTC and LTC mining.

does paypal option work? I was trying but couldn't get it to work.

The Paypal option is available up to a $ limitation. Also, we don't support local pickup because it will break our regular processing flow. Sorry about the inconvenience.

If so, I'd be interested in a couple.

We have one time and limited quantity sale of our Dualminer USB 2 (DM2), a scrypt based altcoin miner. We are a California based company, and we sell and ship in stock USB miners from US. The DM2 contains a single Gridchip (GC3355 processor) chip. It can be setup to mine Litecoin, or Dogecoin, or other scrypt based Altcoins with very low power consumption.
The DM2 is very easy to setup and run. You only need a PC (or Raspbarry Pi) and a USB2.0 hub to start mining altcoin.

As per the above, you only get that price per 10 if you buy 50 (or more).

You'd have to compare 50x DM2 vs 5x HD7970.  The theoretical parity period is the same, but the initial investment (for either option) a fair bit higher.
I.e.
1. your comparison (note that I don't have all the variables you used, so give or take..) - investment: $612 - parity in 357 days
2. actual comparison to get that price - investment: $3,060 - parity in 357 days
3. if you truly bought only 10 ($70.20/each, per website) to match a single HD7970 - investment: $702 - parity in 464 days
http://imgur.com/a/YP5qk
( bitcointalk.org's image proxy is having a fit, so album link it is )

Of course one might be able to get a better deal on 5x HD7970, the resale value of graphics cards after a year is probably better, the static values are unlikely to remain static, etc.

Still, it's a pretty nice pricepoint Smiley

Thank you for your correction. Your points are well taken

Re: [ANN] Introduction to DualMiner USB (could mine both BTC and LTC)

As you may know, our DualMiner USB 2 (DM2) has a price promation on volume purchase this month. When you purchase 50+ DM2 devices, you pay $61.2 for each DM2 device. I did a quick cost/reward comparision between the DM2 and one GPU (Radeon HD7970) system, and reached a conclusion that the DM2 is alreay neck to neck with Radeon HD7970 when comparing cost/reward matrix. Below is my detail analysis;

Assumptions:
Difficulty is steady

Given Conditions:
Host required to mine is not included in this comparision
External cooling is not included in this comparision
$/LTC convertion rate = $16.94
Electricity cost (KW/Hour) = $0.15
Pool Fee = 2%
Duration for comparision = 375 days
Radeon HD7970 parameters; cost=$310, Hash Rate=700KH/s, Power comsumption=250W
10 DM2 parameters; cost=$612, Hash Rate=700KH/s, Power comsumption=15W
LTC reward calculator used in this analysis; https://bitcoinwisdom.com/litecoin/calculator

Calculations:
GPU extra electricity fee (/day) = ((250W-15W)*24/1000)*0.15=$0.846/day
GPU extra electricity fee (375 days) = $0.846*375=$317.25
10 DM2 $ reward from 375 days' mining = $743.9 (using calculator https://bitcoinwisdom.com/litecoin/calculator)

GPU net reward (at the 375th day) = $743.9-$310-$317.25=$116.65
DM2 net reward (at the 375th day) = $743.9-$612=$131.9

Takeaway point: With the per device price of $61.2, the DM2 should give you better long term ROI compared to Radeon HD7970.

I have dualminer 2.0 (LTC only) and I can't seem to get more than three hashing on Orico 10-port hub consistently.

They are also incredibly hot to the touch.

Using the dualminer software.

Any help much appreciated.

We recommend to use a small fan to cool these miners when mining.

With your rasp pi setup...

How do we turn off dual mode ( i am seeing 2 lights on them when they are mining)

thanks  Smiley

Hello, we have price promotions (based on volume purchase) of DM2 product. Please go to the 1st page of this thread for details. Thank you for interest and business.

You should see two lights on even in LTC only mode. I believe our current Pi setup is for LTC only mining.
