by

We're excited to announce Bolt-A-Thon 2! Back in April we hosted the first virtual Lightning Network conference and hackathon which resulted in 14 new Lightning projects and 300+ tickets sold. Bottlepay, one of the winners, even went on to raise [$2 MM afterwards](https://www.theblockcrypto.com/post/40658/team-behind-bottle-pay-raises-2m-to-bring-bitcoin-lightning-network-payments-to-the-masses)!

With Bolt-A-Thon 2, we're bringing back the same format. The first part of our event will be a 3 day hackathon (Dec. 6-8) with a chance to win:

+ 1st - 0.2 BTC
+ 2nd - 0.15 BTC
+ 3rd - 0.1 BTC

*Hackers, please note that it costs 100 sats to register. We also have a new 2 round project assessment format.

The second part of our event will feature 8 top notch Lightning Network speakers (Dec. 7.) featuring Alex Bosworth, Lisa Neigut, Joost Jager, Brandon Curtis, Christian Decker, and Rusty Russell to start! Tickets are on sale now and are 100k sats per session.

The mission of the Bolt-A-Thon is to foster the global development of the Lightning Network. By hosting it online, we are able to make session tickets affordable and encourage developers all over the world to take a shot on building on Lightning.

If you've been curious about trying to build a Bitcoin application, there's no better time nor place than to do it at the Bolt-A-Thon 2. We are also partnering with Bottlepay to offer a bounty program of $250 per team just for building something with their API's! We hope you take a risk and join us to experience the exciting new opportunities Lightning brings!

I tried to find the exact time of the conference of each speaker but I cant find it. It is very important to know about the exact time because of timezone difference. Whether the starting time will be friendly or not for users who are interested with the livestream.

Apologies about that.  If you go to the home page (www.boltathon.com) -> click on "schedule" at the bottom bar -> Saturday, April 6 -> you'll see the speaker schedule.  I'll work on making that more clear on our website.

It seems to be a small low-budget event. Most of the events that I remember (even online webinars) were expensive as fuck both for visitors, speakers and advertisers. This one is cheap and affordable but the cheap price may correlate with quality in some negative way. So don't expect to find something super special there.

Being expensive or cheap is not a yardstick to measure it outcome. The organizer can decide to subsidized the price because of their passion for the general public to participate in the conference.

Yea.  We did not put this on to make crazy profits.

We love the LN, are huge believers in it, and this is our way of helping it grow.

Even our speaker tickets are a 80/20 split in favor of our speakers.  So when you buy a ticket, you're really supporting them.

The cheap price is because we want to make it as affordable as possible.  Hosting it online helps us cut a lot of costs like renting out a room and paying for our speakers room/travel.

I can attest to the quality of the event not only from the speakers (we have premier Lightning Network dev's speaking like Alex Bosworth, Rusty Russell, and Fabrice Drouin), but also by the bounty prizes.  I haven't seen another Lightning hackathon yet that's offered almost 1 BTC's worth of prizes.  We hope this will incentivize people to participate and build really cool Lightning apps.

Would there be a paid live stream for those who are from the other side of the world to be in the Hackathon to watch live?

Hey!  Yes.  You can pay to watch any livestream of our speakers for 250,000 satoshis.  We will be livestreaming the project presentations for free on Sunday.  Follow https://twitter.com/blockfuse to stay up to date with the latest news.

Hey Kakmakr!

That's correct.  Non-coders do not have to pay the 100 satoshi "proof of node" payment to register.  But conference tickets are 250,000 (~$10) satoshis per session.  If you don't have a lightning node, you can always pay on-chain via submarine swaps.

After the event, we will probably host the videos somewhere.  Just got to figure out which platform and how.  Hope to see you there!

Bolt-A-Thon: World's First Online Lightning Network Conference and Hackathon

Friends, Lightning bolters, denizens of the internet, lend me your ears!  I’m proud to introduce to you Bolt-A-Thon: The world’s first virtual LightningNetwork conference and hackathon.  Winners of the hackathon will win the following prizes: 1st place = 0.3 BTC, 2nd = 0.2 BTC, 3rd = 0.1 BTC.  Blockstack is also offering an additional $1000 bounty for the best project utilizing their platform.

Speakers
We’re also featuring fantastic workshops from people like Rusty Russell, Alex Bosworth, Pierre Rochard, Rockstar Dev, and Lightning Koala.  Even if you are not a developer, there are sessions that non-coders would gain a lot from.  For example, Pierre will be showing people how to launch their own Lightning node.  So you could try and follow along from the comfort of your own home!  Another great talk for all Bitcoiners will be Alex Bosworth's sobering discussion about the limitations of the Lightning Network.

Payments
We are only receiving payments in Lightning Bitcoin.  Don't have a Lightning node?  Don't worry!  You can submarine swap on-chain Bitcoin or Litecoin payments into Lightning Bitcoin.

Prices
- Hackathon: We require a 100 satoshi "proof of node" payment to register.
- Conference: Each speaker session will be $10.  We will be hosting 10 speakers. This is a far cry from other conferences where you have to pay $399 PLUS housing and travel. And the best part is, you can attend anonymously!

Hi.  I'd like to request the ability to contribute to the wiki because I have 2 suggested definitions to propose to the lightning network glossary.
