Re: Isn't this whole bitcoin thing just a big scammers party?
It's a brand-new and unprecedented type of currency and investment -- anytime there's this level of innovation and disruption there's going to be scammers looking to taking advantage. It's like the wildwest.
Im after an easy way of buying bitcoins. im only after like £20 worth at the moment. How do i get them. most sites ive looked at take a while and look dodgy. Plus most of them only do USD. i need GBP.
The prize could also go down. Too many people know about bitcoin and using it. It's not a geek only 'currency' anymore. so there are a lot of stupid people using it.
Bitcoin is limited. Therefore more people using it = higher price per bitcoin. This is exactly why the price will go up (by enormous factors) in the long term, regardless of any temporary spikes and drops (which are just incidental market hype and panic movements).
All that says is bitinstant got permission. And mtgox saying welcome to the club. does that mean its official they are working together now? If so has anyone seen their withdrawal times go down? because mine sure havent....
How long does it take to get the money back thanks
i didn't bother to read EVERY thread on here, but a thing to beware of with linux USB / live CDs: if your encryption requires high-quality random numbers, you might not want to generate random keys after booting from a USB boot / live CD; apparently that's not a good choice because the environment is more predictable. Anyone out there ever even take advantage of this flaw? I sure haven't; I've only had wikipedia entertain me with these thoughts
Honestly, it surely doesn't matter, but for those that love being paranoid: beware of generating keys after freshly booting from a live CD / USB.
As for creating a "100% secure wallet", I don't think it's possible to quantify or measure the % of security that a wallet is under. Keep in mind that your wallet isn't exactly secure if even YOU lose access to it! (It's no longer secure--it is useless!)
The requirements sound very reasonable, the four hour limitation should stop people from randomly trolling however the requirements will not put an end to well planned trolling, however this is an unfortunate fact of the Internet and trolls that have no life will generally go as far out of thier way to troll as is needed. But here's an idea, perhaps make people donate a satoshi to get into the forums? That would demonstrate an ability to use bitcoin, although setting up that system may be tedious.. Never mind the way you have it is good too.
