Re: (Almost sure)brainwallet.org stole 22BTC from me

If you're using a brainwallet, move your coins - NOW!

On August 7th I will be giving a talk at DEF CON about cracking brainwallets. As part of that talk, I will be releasing a fast[1] brainwallet cracker. I'm writing this post to provide a little insight as to why I'm giving away a tool that could be used to steal. I also hope that people who are currently using brainwallets will take notice and move to a more secure storage method.

SHA256 your passphrase IMMEDIATELY and move your coins to trezor, electrum, etc.

this is actually like unbelievably horrible, and troublesome.

I remember when i first read about brainwallet on reddit I thought: that's like really scary, but cute, a lot of people will fall for using it.

It never occurred to me that not only could people end up with the same passphrase, but that you could actively scan the entire blockchain and just start brute forcing for brain wallets with easily gussed passphrases.

What's most concerning are that there are people who are ALREADY running botnets on the blockchain, and today any 5 char passphrase gets auto extracted in seconds.

most poignant:

"Brainwallets make the Blockchain a
public password hash database"

china won no economic race

they have a serious pollution issue
they have a serious water supply crisis (that will eventually lead to conflict once those countries downstream figure out china stole/diverted all the water)
they have a horrid infrastructure for city planning/highway
they are unbelievably rife with local government corruption

Nasdaq is already dead.

because of the lack of trust in the stats.

Bitcoin is pure stats. system ... people and traders will like this when time come (trusted value = fondamental restored).

you are both dumb and delusional if you dont believe that bitcoin needs the legacy financial system to succeed.

not sure why everyone is excited about a $10k bitcoin.. as that $10k will only buy you a weeks rent once the dollar fails..

.. people need to start thinking about bitcoin as:
1 bitcoin buys 10k loaves of bread
1 bitcoin buys a year of rent

get your head out of the sand.

There may be a day where you wont have to think about USD as the reserve currency, but since the USA owns all the guns and airplanes, and aircraft carriers there is basically zero chance that the dollar experiences a total collapse inside of the next 50 years. For that to happen, we will need World War 3 or even 4.

And since USA is basically cannot be beached by any foreign force, it makes your argument completely null and void. USA can do whatever it fucking wants when the world goes into the toilet, and while FIAT may literally be out of favor, USD will still be preferred over every other fiat.

inside of 5 years imo.

Once the ETF kicks off, and nasdaq opens the door for greater blockchain integration into their share tracking platform of colored coins, it will literally be overnight. Literally I can see a 10x increase inside of a few month span. Nasdaq opening the door is the real rocket ship.

although it is likely that there are zero day exploits that can be utilized to attack bitcoin, it is very unlikely that enough of these exploits exist, separate or together, that compromise the entire bitcoin network or blockchain.

soon 1 oz of silver will be worth 320+ bitcoins ..

your a fucking MORON

but you realy knew that so good night bitch.

and 1 bitcoin can buy your brains Roll Eyes

problems with bitcoins:

A. "dumb people" are going to lose bitcoins if and when more people use them.

B. "dumb people" are going to lose bitcoins through malware hacks.. security for bitcoins is gimped for newbs .

C. eventually bitcoins will be forced to 'create out of thin air' more bitcoins. and bitcoins is not being straight forward about this thus it is being a scheme.

D. when more users do adopt bitcoin pc's will require a hard drive just to hold the blockchain, and everytime that hard drive fails will be forced to download the entire bloack chain again.

E. security has been gimped with bitcoin at exchanges.. and just about every single time a bitcoin exchange is hacked the perputators never get caught .. the coins are just gone.. noone ever gets busted ..

F. every single transaction is recorded in the blockchain.. no privacy at all... none zero.

G. we got people talking about "soft forks" to make new units of currency.. it might not be talked about but it sounds possible entire wallets being forked right out of the blockchain.

it is very doubtful all the problems with bitcoin can be resolved in time to become the replacement currency you all wish and hope for .. its going to be gold and silver.. they are going to surprise you and everyone holding bitcoins is going to take a massive haircut.

Problem is I cant send gold or silver across the planet in 15 seconds.

H. and you cant buy anything without a pc or phone either.

I. the entire economic infrastructure will have a serious vulnerability.

there ya go.. goodnite.

Unless you think WW3 is coming, you are a moron.

A complete financial fiat collapse = WW3 will ensue.

Everyone will demand that their debt be forgiven, and countries where govts end up dissolving over night will become the focus of a new world war.

Otherwise, I dont think we end up seeing hyperinflation, which would be a precusor and the final true bat-signal that war is coming. What's more likely it seems is that the world plunges into depression and there is a massive re-ordering of wealth. If that happens, I can assure you that GOLD and SILVER, although extremely valuable, will not supplant bitcoin. If you are a wealthy person looking to flee a country or to smuggle wealth overseas, you wont be looking at GOLD or silver as wealth preservation, they are far too difficult to move. Diamonds, gemstones, and state secrets as a physical asset will be much preferred over gold and silver.

Re: Can Bitcoins Price be manipulated like Gold is?

It is right now and has been for the past 2 years.

Until the ETF kicks off and/or a massive adoption event by either banks or people, bitcoin is laughably illiquid. On orderbooks today, there is probably 50k BTC buyable up to 100% of its current price. You could literally clear the entire world's order book for 1 hour with little coordinated effort for 30-40m USD. Conversely, because of sites that allow leverage and futures, consider how little BTC or USD you would need to begin pushing the price around. Someone with as little as 1m USD or BTC equiv could push BTC's price +/- 5% during off hours with literally zero effort or sophistication involved.

fake a few screenshots about OK coin, throw it on reddit. have a few sock accounts "confirm"

start dumping 1-3k btc on finex and finish off on btc-e. buy on the way back up

something so stupid and simple as that could cause a +/- 10% swing at current prices TODAY.

Garzik starting to get it more and more:

https://twitter.com/jgarzik/status/624712746471329792

I keep asking, you think Nasdaq expects or wants to have to compete, do an RBF, or pay high fees in getting every stock trade marker into the MC? Nor will they ever accept a SC solution.

Why wouldnt they prefer to use a sidechain where they can control and better obfuscate transactions?

Even such, as long as it is built on top of bitcoin, does it really matter whether Nasdaq's intent is to rely on the main chain or not?

The advantage of bitcoin is that it has been around for 6 years and has proven itself to be extremely robust as a protocol that handles transactions. If Nasdaq wants to create it's own private altcoin, that would take years of planning with hundreds of businesses and entities to ensure that their altcoin would be able to serve everybody. I don't think anyone in the world even today, 6 years after the launch of bitcoin, could create such a business plan that can be executed in a meaningful time period (e.g. inside of 10 years) where this altcoin would be able to supercede bitcoin's capabilities.

They would rather buy their own miners, form a pool, and obfuscate their transactions on a sidechain than to wait 10 years on a piece of software or technology that bitcoin could render obsolete in months because of its open source nature.

by

people seem to think that the halving will reduce sell pressure from mining farms, even though theres evidence to suggest that a lot of these mining farms that are actual businesses that dont sell bitcoin (e.g. bitfury, 21inc) i think nothing will happen.

if you guys want the price to increase, stop trading bitcoin on shit websites.

first ive used bitgo before, and it is very suspicious to me that you are not receiving reset email passwords.

that to me indicates that either they have frozen your account and are investigating because you are trying to double spend a double spend.
or
you are not the original owner of the bitgo account and whoever your trying to steal from changed his password.

Bitgo has a really different login system than most web wallets. Your login to your account is separate from your wallet password. Maybe you're getting the two mixed up and that's why you cant log in.

I'm not convinced you own this bitgo account.
Coins in this wallet originally came from a tumbler so there might definitely be more to this story, I'll look into the origin of the coins a bit more.

right, what are the odds that someone tried to double spend to HIM while HE wants to move essentially 100% of his bitcoins to another wallet?

How much you want to bet that whatever was sent FROM 1Em66 to him is the exact difference between 3Mihy and 2.9btc?

basically spot gold price in USD vs USD relative to world's currencies

by

Seriously?

Why do people trade on that garbage website? People get margin called last night in a gigantic wave and the website crashes because of mice, ddos, and floods of connection requests.

So what, Greece's leading political party accepts a bailout that is fraught with pot holes and still needs to pass its parliament where now they have to fork over collateral to receive 50b euros, while the ECB literally plans to print 1.2trillion euros within 2 years to crush bond yields.

its just puzzling we leave the entire short term faith of bitcoin into a chinese company that has proven to be duplicitous in its behavior for years. But people still think they can trade the shit out of bitcoin while they are just paddling down a river to a waterfall they cant see.

just bizarre, really....
