The $15 wall is torn down in one shot

The large orders to come will be large sells because no one wants to buy into an ask wall that isn't there.

Search volumes says you are overpaying for your coins

source:  http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=bitcoin&date=1%2F2011%2025m&cmpt=q

Historical prices when "bitcoin" search levels were about the same as today:

January 2013 - $14.50
September 2012 - High volatility but around $10
January 2012 - $7
September 2011 - $7
May 2011 - $5

Additionally if we look at the graph, bitcoin prices roughly correlate with search volume until June 2012 when the price was $5.  I would think there would be a small rise in the price of bitcoin because some people buy it and forget it.  Thus, these people do not do "bitcoin" searches that often.  But I do not think this type of buyer justifies a doubling of the price from a year ago when we saw similar search volumes.  Search engine volume says you are overpaying for your bitcoins today.  I think we could see $5 or $7 in 2013.

The manipulator's buy wall looks like it's messing with your heads.  Get ready for a dip under 13 when she takes your money.

On a more serious note, brain wallets enable a scammer to create a financial crime and plausibly deny still having the stolen bitcoins.  Even if they are sent to jail for 10 years, they just have to remember the brain wallet to come out a millionaire.  As an added bonus, the coins probably appreciated in value over the time span.

I could see brain wallets enabling victims too.  Say you are in a concentration camp but you remember your brain wallet.  You could buy your escape by paying off a guard, who could let you slip by.

Re: Call the Peak Contest/Experiment (1 BTC Prize)

You need a time frame otherwise a 1 penny move could be a peak. When does the contest expire?

This will expire May 31st.  If that changes anyone's guess, feel free to edit to change it.  Please edit within the next three days.

I will be recording guesses so people don't keep editing in an attempt to win.

Call the Peak Contest/Experiment (1 BTC Prize)
by

on 12/01/2013, 22:10:53 UTC
Rules:

UPDATE:  Contest ends May 31st

To win, post your guess for the peak USD/BTC price.
To win, post your guess before the peak USD/BTC price occurs.
Only a user with 100+ posts can win.
Only the first guess for a user can win.

Winner, with price guess closest to price peak, will receive a 1 BTC prize.

I will use the USD/BTC MTGOX price.
I will determine if you posted before the peak price.
I will determined what is a peak.  I consider these peaks:

When you guess:
Please, I would appreciate any reasoning or let me know if it is a complete guess.  Although, I will not require this in the first experiment to reduce the amount of fake reasoning/guesses given.

Goal:  I hope to run multiple experiments to see if any user(s) can consistently call the peak with some accuracy.  Let me know if I should change any rules for future experiments to better achieve this goal.

Over the past six months, the LTC price has been far more stable than the BTC price.  Maybe Bit Pay should add an LTC option for merchants.   Wink

so you ppl did get any refunds ? the refund policy say you can ask after 01/01/2013

I would expect a scam operation to give some refunds.  As long as pre-order revenue exceeds refund revenue, it makes sense to "stay in business".

How far will the price fall when Butterfly Labs stops "customer service" and leaves the country?  Will we see the same magnitude as the Pirate Crash?

Please explain why it would crash.

Speculators dumped coins when the Pirate scam was confirmed so it seems plausible this might happen when this scam is confirmed.

Re: I will answer your nooby noob questions about bitcoin!

Sometime ago I purchased Bit coin through GetBitcoin LLC. I didn't know what I was doing and somehow made the purchase without an address to send the bitcoin to. I was told the bitcoin was sent and given tracking information through blockexplorer.com I am trying to deposit bitcoin into an account, but I'm not sure how to access my bitcoin. When I click on the link for the order in my email from GetBitcoin (sent 8/6/12) I get request not found. I have emailed GetBitcoin LLC and I get an email back saying they are out of business. I asked walletbit and was given the impression that blockchain.org might know something about it, but they told me they don't provide support for third party services (I thought they were affiliated with blockexplorer). Is it possible with the information that I have from blockexplorer to access the bitcoin to deposit it (it shows an adress...but it shows lots of different ones  Smiley) ? There is a lot of info sent to me about a completed transaction from blockexplorer.com.....can I use this info to make a deposit?
Moral of my story: learn then go not go then learn Grin

Thanks

I'm not sure how to get your coin back but for next time.

See http://howtobitcoin.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-create-bitcoin-wallet-in-3.html for how to create a simple, unsecure bitcoin wallet (good for small amounts of money).

I'll post about paper wallets in a bit for a more secure solution.

Is this 1BTC shipped inside the US? If I can get some Bitcoin in my wallet soon I'm definitely interested.

Thanks!

Yes, it is 1 BTC shipped anywhere in the USA.

For everyone else, I can ship these elsewhere but additional international shipping and duties will be added upon the 1 BTC.  PM me if still interested.

I am selling three epic philosophy books

A Dialog on Personal Identity and Immortality - This one's my favorite.  On his death bed, a friend tries to persuade a philosopher that existence of an afterlife is possible by arguing that souls exist.  It has one of the best endings that I have read in the non-fiction category.

Plato's Republic - Through Socratic questioning, an argument is made for what the best possible city looks like.  The following question is also answered:  "Is it better to be evil and have everyone think you are virtuous or is it better to be virtuous and have everyone think you are evil?"

Descartes - An Analytical and Historical Introduction - Descartes starts from assuming nothing.  At first, he doubts his existence, but comes up with the argument "I think, therefore, I exist."  Then Descartes attempts to prove the existence of God through his famous ontological argument, which is based on a definition instead of empirical evidence.  Although Descartes is hard to follow, Dicker beautifully clarifies the arguments of Descartes.

Selling the bundle of books for 1 BTC shipping included, which is what you would pay on Amazon.
