ETH price goes down means more coiins for given hashrate?
by

Hello friends,

If ETH price goes down like now, in theory some miners will stop mining because this is not profitable for them. Then as a result, there will be less competition for the same amount of coins per block and then the remaining miners should get more coin for the same hashrate.

At current price, mining is not profitable for me. But I am waiting for a drop in the total hashrate due to drop of price to get a better share of the coins produced.

Is it a good way to think?

Thanks,

ethereum POS casper update
by

on 05/09/2017, 15:54:01 UTC
Hello,

I have some questions about the upcoming POS update for ethereum :

1) When POS is implemented, no more coins will be generated, rewards will only be from fees?

2) To be part of the POS process, do you just have to put your funds (ethereum) locked in an account to validate new blocks and you will get your proportional share of the rewards(fees)?

Hashrate is better on nitro+ as it also has better frequency : 1342 MHz VS 1266 MHz

Do you know what is the memory brand on the reference RX480 cards?

thanks

Hello,

Are there much difference between RX480 nitro+ 2Xfan and RX480 basics blower? especially power and hasrate wise?

I am talking about sapphire ones : http://www.sapphiretech.com/catapage_pd.asp?cataid=305&lang=eng

ETHOS to WINDOWS ethereum
by

Hi,

I bought RX470 GPUs and They are not compatible with my R9 390 gpus on Ethos.

Somebody told me to use Windows where they will be compatible.

But I have some questions prior starting :

Can I just use my existing rig and install windows on the ssd?
my ssd is 30 GB is it enough to use it to mine with windows?
What software to use to mine with windows and gpus?
Mining with windows is as easy and efficient than with ethos?

thanks

I had 3 rigs running RX series and the R9 series with ETHOS never mix it just won't work. Just finished selling of the r9 and adding new RX in the place. of course the New ASRocks motherboard has been a dream come true. Cut Power Consumption down and hashes like a chanp.

Are you talking about the 13 PCIe slots asrocks motherboards or the 6 PCIe slots one? please give reference of the motherboard, you are talking about

When I put the 2 R9 390 gpus only on the rigs, then they are working fine.
When I put the 2 RX 470 gpus only on the rig, then they are working fine.

But when I put the 4 gpus on the same rig together, only the RX470's seem to be hashing.

There seem to be compatibility problem. How to solve this?

adding GPUs to rigs ETHOS

I had 2 GPUs GIGABYTE R9 390 8G running only on my rig (workes fine). I have just bought 2 new GPUs GIGABYTE RX 470 4G.

Right now, I only run TWO RX 470 with ONE R9390 so 3 GPUs total.

And I am encountering some issues. It looks like only the 2 RX 470 are mining and the desktop on ETHOS only display information for 1 GPU.

Here is the diagnostic file :

what should I do?

Re: Problem starting GPU MINING RIG

Hello again everyone,

The problem is solved and it was indeed the PSU (power supply unit from LEPA) which was not working anymore.

I replace it with a new one that I get from warranty and everything turned on as if it was new.

I will use the warranty on PSU as I don't have a second PSU or a second Rig to perform all the test.

Look at atx psu pinouts. Lepa have always fan turned on, so you just cross PS_ON with COM. If psu start, then you can take energy volt meter and chceck all lines.

http://www.smps.us/atx-connector-20-24pin.jpeg

I have already done this. The fan is spinning when doing this and I have tested power coming out of cables when doing this.

I have also tried to cross PS_ON with COM when PSU was pluged to motherboard, CPU, RAM. This resulted in CPU fan spinning but the all thing was not looking to be started.

The problem seems to be at the start

I am sure the problem is from the PSU. Who can confirm?

I don't have PSU to swap for the moment, I think I am going to use warranty on PSU.

However, I would like to be sure there is some issues with PSU.

What happens when trying to start off the rig by pushing power button is : just hearing a small electric sound in the PSU. If I press a second time the sound doesn't repeat.
Then, after pressing and holding the power button a long time (as if I was trying to shut down the rig), I can hear the same sound again when I press the power button again a short time.

Who can from that information guide me to be 100% sure this is PSU problem?

Thanks

@gt_addict  : I have tried with no GPU at all, this does the same thing : problem is either PSU or CPU. I would say this is PSU as CPU rarely break. However as I said previously, I have tested PSU on its own by connectiing green wire to ground and it ran well. Maybe just some part of PSU are broken. The parts that are broken may be the starting parts of the PSU

Thanks,

Regarding connection problem : considering it was working before shuting it down and didn't work after shuting it down. I thing this is not the issue. I have done an hard shut down (with power button) and this may have caused overpowering in some part or damaged some parts (this is my version).

Specs of parts :

PSU :
 Lepa 1600W G1600 80+ Gold

Mother board :
Ashrock H81 PRO BTC New Version (just recieved it)

CPU :
Intel Celeron ProcessorG1840, 2.8 GHZ, 2 MB Cache, LGA1150

RAM :
Kingston KVR1333D3N9/8G 8GB PC3 10600 CL9 240 Pin DIMM

DRIVE :
Kingstone SSDnow SMS200S3 / 30 G (which I adapt using mSATA -SATA 2,5'' Disk adapter from Lindy)

GPUs:
2 GIGABYTE G1 GAMING RADEON R9 390 8192MB GDDR5
