Re: [Ann] US based Avalon ASIC chips and assembly: 715 remaining
by

The 715 remaining that you see in the subject line is for the first 5000 chips for batch 6. SB usually orders the batch once half of the 10000 batch has been sold. So the actual number of chips remaining for sale in batch 6 is around 5715 (less any that have been sold that haven't been accounted for by SB in the subject line), but the batch should be ordered once another 715 are sold.

Thank you for the explanation. That lines up with the current balance nicely.

steamboat, i see that the latest batch is almost full. however, looking at your address https://blockchain.info/address/1JFYtJKcfqXPKijyo3DceT5en5RnswpAwC tells that this address did not receive all that payment. can you explain this?

in case i join your group buy, is there a refunding possibility before the batch was ordered from avalon?

sync forum servers using ntpd (relevant for auctions)
by

on 26/06/2013, 22:32:34 UTC
Dear Admins of bitcointalk.org,
I value your work a lot and enjoy being here on this forum, for free. This is a great place where some great minds share their ideas. Now that the forum is so widely used, and a very good place to advertise auctions of bitcoin related goods, I've seen quite a few auctions suffering from the forum timestamp, which is a bit off the standard UTC time. In normal forum discussions, this doesn't matter at all. But in auctions (and we even have a subsection just for them), it matters a great deal if your bid was before or after auction end. At the moment, many users experience problems when trying to determine if a bid was in time for an auction, because the timestamps of the forum are off by about 135 seconds. As you can guess, unpleasant disputes can arise from this, because it is difficult, or even impossible, to find out the exact offset.

Hence, I would like to suggest to sync the server time of the bitcointalk.org servers by using ntpd. This is a reliable and proven method to always keep server time close to the true time. This allows users to agree upon the timestamps of bid-posts as the ultimate reference when determining their timeliness and avoids disputes.

Thank you,
Excalibur

be happy no bid was so close that there could be any disputes, so nobody needs to explain a working strategy Wink

The counter is real time. Take the counter time and real time. If i'm right there is a differnce of 2 minutes and about 18 seconds between real time and forum time

look here
http://www.schnelle-online.info/Atomuhr-Uhrzeit.html

well I do know what realtime blah blah is. you did not answer my question. maybe you dont want to. how are you going to tell if a post appeared before or after 00:00? do you calculate with those 2:18 or was your plan to simply make your own cut with your "OOOVVEER" thing?

idee2013, how are you going to determine if something was posted before or after 00:00? do you know the exact forum offset time?

Just to confuse you more Wink "12:00 pm" is noon, not midnight. The AM/PM changes with the clock jumping to 12, whereas the counting (12 -> 01) changes at 1 o'clock.

HI, soory there is a smal auction end mistake.
The counter is right but the text is wrong:
This auction ends at 26 june 2013 00:00:00 CET.

The auction end is midnight at 26 june 2013 12:00:00 PM CET
Just came across this comment, so ignore my above question. It's answered here.

Anyways, could you please also update the time in the initial post in this thread, so people are not confused like me?

This auction ends at 26 june 2013 00:00:00 CET.

Hello idee2013 (btw, are you in Germany like me?), either your auction end time is incorrect or the countdown timer. Today is about noon June 25th, so June 26th 00:00 is about half a day away. But the countdown timer shows one day more, specifically about 1 day and 11 hours something. I presume the countdown timer is off by one day and your action ends with end of today. Is that correct?

Ok, tnx for the suggestion:
- Link to transaction on blockchain: https://blockchain.info/address/1J76jfDhJKPxNzKiQ6sU3xy32Q9kjdTeU
(payment was done from several addresses, I'm using the first one 16PogsBAz3uqnmMG65NnnPQq3Jxe6qN5G1 for verification but I can sign all addresses if needed).
- Signing this threads URL:

Address: 16PogsBAz3uqnmMG65NnnPQq3Jxe6qN5G1

Thank you for taking this effort. I've checked your signature and addresses and it all looks good.

I have no problem buying 50 pieces and then reselling them for 1.1 BTC each + shipping fee, but it says that for the EU, there already is an agreement with yxt.

I would like to buy chips from people who have ordered from here. I do not require escrow, but I do require proof of identity and that you cryptographically sign a short contract using the bitcoin address from where you paid the chips. Please PM me, including expected price, if you want to sell.

by

There seems to be a trick to get less then 10.000 chips...

See: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=189582.0

Can you do the same?

NO! They mixed information on one page about their batch 1 (which is ordered because they got 10k chips together) and batch 2 (which is not ordered, because there are not enough buyers for 10k chips). That's all. Otherwise of course, if they had ordered from avalon already, their wallet would be empty, because they would have paid avalon.

To make people here trust you more, you can:
- Provide the transaction ID you issued to buy the chips from avalon, so that we can see that you really bought.
- Sign this thread's URL with the sender address of that transaction.

Btw, not being able to do so might cause people to think that this is a scam.

thanks John for the explanation. i understand the reason for a deposit from the seller. i did not understand it at first, because a deposit as high as the purchase price does not appear proportionate to me.

still, this doesn't make sense to me. why does john not simply keep your money until delivery of the chips, and then pay the seller? why does it need to be the double amount?

the reason to use escrow is to wait with the payment to the seller until delivery, to keep up the incentive (payment) for the seller to deliver. why would he need to pay anything?

Maybe I somehow don't get this reverse auction.. but why does the seller need to transfer coins in order to sell his chips?
