Just wondering - do the Bytestamp assets on Datacoin qualify as NFT's?

Could they be listed on OpenSea?

Do you feel that it's worth the effort?

It's difficult to express this without a sense of sounding whiny ... I have spent some time thinking about this in depth but I just can't convince myself that there is sufficient residual interest in the Datacoin chain to justify the amount of effort required for a migration. There isn't even enough interest to protect the chain against the current exploitation by just one individual of the emissions rate/difficulty modifier relationship.

Although I see myself as merely an occasional technical contributor, I can see why public perception may prefer a caretaker interpretation. However, even as an erstwhile curator, the main issue is that there's very little left to curate. The community seems to have evaporated leaving a few isolated individuals remaining. Communication ranges from terse to non-existent. Both the mining pool and exchange listing persist via the goodwill of the operators towards a 2013-vintage altcoin.

I have to confess that I'm struggling for an answer to the question - What's the point of continuing to support the remnants of a community that don't appear to want support?

Cheers

Graham

What really excited me about Datacoin was that PC program runnning on the blockchain.

I am wondering if it would not be better to stick to 0.15.99, as suggested, and concentrate instead on storing more programs in the chain.

We have all the tools.

Mining reward does not show in pending or final balance.  But reward mined message (hammer) is shown.

In fact this is working a little bit like Apertus, but in the client itself.
It's limited to rendering HTML pages. Didn't want to tread on toes.

With the Datastore function are we effectively creating Non-fungible tokens?
Depends on what you inscribe and there's no direct means of asserting ownership nor is there any kind of ownership transfer mechanism. So yes but only notionally.

Cheers

Graham

Apertus is no longer under active development, so I suppose it would be fine to interpret .js files, so that they could be run straight off the blockchain.
I thought ownership was a matter of signing a transaction with the Datacoin client, which should be possible in 0.16.

Excuse my ignorance.  On clicking on the links I get:

Unable to connect

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:11777.

Testnet is running and datacoin.conf is active.  And there are testnet coins available.

Hi Graham

Very interesting.  Maybe also compatible with the Apertus browser of Hugpuddle.

Hi All.  The meeting went very well.  Unfortunately due to proprietary concerns from some of the participants it was not possible to record the meeting.  Three ideas stood out:  1.  One of the participants will arrange for all versions of the client to be active on the cloud.  2.  A second participant will be translating the Bytestamp software into javascript to upload onto the Datacoin blockchain (which will now be run from the cloud).  I myself will continue to maintain the Datacoin shop and MLM, currently under maintenance.

The next Datacoin Zoom Meeting is on Friday, 18 September.

i'm currently using wallet "datacoin-0.8.6.0-linux" and it appears fine, bit slow to open, and very slow to sync compared to say Primecoin wallet. So i think the wallet needs some more optimising.
(I opened DTC and XPM wallets together, DTC was 39 hours behind, and XPM 6 weeks,,,,,DTC is still 11 hours behind, and XPM has synced)

We are currently on Datacoin Core 0.16.3 at the Datacoin repository on Github.   www.github.com/datacoinproject/datacoin.

Could you perhaps switch to 0.16.3 and help us with testing.

Thank you.

Hey Minerja

I am not mining, just buying.  Seems to be more logical to buy than mine at these levels.

I was thinking of a 10% proof of stake, which would still leave 90% of the coinbase reward for the miners.

Datacoin Block Explorer, Smart Contracts, Digital Assets and Online Markets

The Datacoin wallet has an inbuilt block explorer, written by Graham Higgins.  If Apertus can be included in the Datacoin block explorer to display the websites stored on the Datacoin blockchain we would have some very interesting consequences:

1.  We would be able to surf an uncensorable Internet with the Datacoin client.
2.  We would be able to write smart contracts using Javascript, executed by the Datacoin network.
3.  The ByteStamp digital assets would be interpreted (and tradeable) directly in the Datacoin client.
4.  Digital markets and social media would run on the Datacoin network.

The implications of Javascript becoming the language of Datacoin would be highly convenient.  It has basically become the language of the Internet.

I believe that this idea, and the addition of Proof of Stake, is what is needed to revive Datacoin.  The basics of a road-map.

Thank you very much.  Much appreciated.

I am in South Africa.  We are in national lockdown until April 16.  Maybe longer.

So far 1353 infected, 5 dead.

Proof of Stake for Datacoin

Decred implements proof of stake as a Hodler incentive, and I think we need something similar for Datacoin.  Datacoin has no Hodler incentive, which is why so many coins are dumped for Bitcoin.  I was surprised to see that about 50% of Decred coins are staked, which removes a massive amount of loose coins from the market.  No wonder the price is $11 per coin.

How difficult or how easy will it be to add staking to Datacoin?  I was thinking that 10% of the coinbase reward can be given to staked accounts, with 90% going to the POW miners.  In this way there would be no inflation, and we would still end with 2 billion coins sometime in the 25th century.

I would like to use a developer treasury to do this project, especially since the developer treasury could itself then also be staked, to earn income to fund the developer projects.

Any thoughts on this issue would be most welcome.
