One of the rumors going around is that he died a few years ago, but its nothing more than a rumor. It is pretty amazing that he could go all these years without a single sighting, even if living in China. If he's not dead he does a terrific job of covering his tracks.

MIAMI, Feb. 27, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- On February 17, 2023, Judge Kenneth A. Marra of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida issued an order imposing contempt sanctions against The Ren Project ("Ren") for its willful violation of the Court's Order for Asset Freeze Injunction and to Transfer the Stolen Bitcoin ("Permanent Injunction"), in a class action lawsuit filed by customers of Project Investors, d/b/a Cryptsy. Cryptsy was an online exchange which held digital currencies on behalf of its customers. North Field Technology, Ltd., a subsidiary of Themis Recovery AG which does business as Token Recovery, is endeavoring to recover the stolen coins for the class.
The underlying judgment in this case arises from the conduct of Paul Vernon, the founder and former operator and Chief Executive Officer of Cryptsy. Vernon stole all of his customers' coins and then used various services and exchanges to launder those coins so that they would be difficult to trace. Using an advanced tracing technology, Token Recovery identified Ren as a service used to launder a substantial number of the stolen coins. When Ren refused to turn over the stolen coins to Token Recovery, Token Recovery pursued contempt sanctions against Ren for its violation of court orders.
Ren did not contest the requested sanctions and failed to appear for a hearing on February 17, 2023. At that hearing, Judge Marra ordered Ren to immediately transfer the 685 BTC of the Stolen Bitcoin in its custody - with an approximate value of US $17,066,501, to a digital wallet held by Token Recovery or produce the cash equivalent in U.S. dollars. The Judge also imposed a daily fine of $500.00 (equivalent to approximately 0.020 BTC) for every day following the entry of the contempt order that Ren fails to comply by turning over the 685 BTC to Token Recovery.
Separately, Defendant Vernon is facing criminal charges in Miami, where a 17-count indictment accuses him of a complex scheme to exploit his control over Cryptsy to steal customer funds before abruptly moving to China and later destroying company records in an attempt to cover his tracks.

As you know, part of the "hacked" funds were laundered by Chakib and his brothers. You know them as BTCdrak, phineasfisher, ect. After several analyzes and a long investigation, I was able to find where the money from cryptsy ended up.
Chakib laundered the money of cryptsy customers by creating a cryptocurrency exchange platform, he managed to promote his VIAcoin scam, I was able to trace the transactions, around $30 million ended up in binance accounts buy on the darknet, before ending up in the coinex.com ICO

The analyse on cryptsy is loud and clear. Anyone working on AML can see in 2-3 days of working on the case who took the money and who received the money. Where the money where mixed, by whom and when.

A Facebook memory reminded me of something that still frustrates me today.
It was 6 years ago today that Paul moved the Cryptsy XRP wallet
$14 Million of Cryptsy customer funds are in the hands of the owners of btc38.com wherever they are.
I traced the 29 Million XRP Paul took after it was legally the receivers property to 3 separate accounts. Btc38.com confirmed they froze the accounts but refused to comply with legal demands to return the funds.

I can only assume you're being sarcastic here? These coins are long gone by looks of it. After initially mixed in 2014, the easily traceable "mixed coins" were broken down into smaller sizes this year and already circulating on most major exchanges. Blacklisting addresses does nothing when there are now increments as small as 0.25 BTC across thousands of different addresses, if not tens of thousands.
Here's a look at a few of the output trails that caught my attention, bottom right (red dots) is Binance laundering them, this isn't even the full picture either:
Law enforcement are going to struggle to get any coins back to users even if do they find the hacker, unless they find the private keys/seed backed up on a cloud account like with the Bitfinex hack.

Are you sure S.Law are aware of the situation? I haven't received any communication from them.
It seems like a weird time to move the funds of the big wallets. Knowing full well that the applicable authorities are continuing to move against Paul Vernon and co. These funds are undoubtedly being monitored and traced. We know the FBI have the tools to track funds that went through mixers. 11,000 BTC is nothing to sneeze at and we all now know the keys weren't lost.
I'm surprised the keys weren't abandoned or the funds returned.

Did anything ever come of those? They were traceable to multiple large exchanges - I was ignored by HitBTC when I alerted them.
I notified S.Law on the 5th or so when I first heard. They were already aware.
Nothing ever came from those transactions as without the database we couldn't even prove they were stolen. They almost certainly were but we cant prove it definitively.
Paul never even disclosed those transactions to me. I have my doubts if he ever even monitor for unapproved withdrawals like he claimed.
He let them walk right in and they gave him many opportunities to stop the bleeding. Based on that timeline I was awake upgrading the reddcoin wallet as they launched their pos upgrade that night. I could have responded immediately had I been notified or had the tools to even know what was going on. Believe it or not even I never knew the full extent of what was lost.
Whether or not they were in the database, it was claimed by Paul Vernon that those were implicated addresses and they should have been blacklisted by the big exchanges. The addresses are on the public record as recipients of solely stolen funds. They weren't mixed very well when moved, so were easy to trace to multiple large exchanges. S. Law should be aware of this as they were with the Coinbase funds, and should be suing those exchanges.
HitBTC were directly notified within less than a week of the coins moving and did nothing about it. It's not like Coinbase who could argue to ignorance. The coins also moved to known Binance addresses.
according to my analysis why the price of bitcoin has not reached $75k, it could be because many countries still refuse bitcoin to be used as a legal medium of exchange, even though many companies have accepted bitcoin as payment. because this is one of the factors that can prevent bitcoin from penetrating the new ATH and investors still choose the dollar as a safer investment in the face of unbalanced market fluctuations.
