Re: Double Spend Warning on blockchain.info

Hello,

I'm getting the same warning from one address I've only used to collect mining profit from different pools. How can this be possible??

Thanks for any info on this,

Orphaned blocks.

Could this be related to the supposed hack that Eligius was victim of?

No.

And as far as I've heard, Eligius has not been hacked.  They just had a miner that was contributing hash power to collect when the pool found a block, but throwing away the blocks that the miner solved

how does that affect me?

It probably doesn't.

can I loose btc I currently have there?

Where?  At Eligius?  It's always possible for someone to run off with your bitcoins if you give them control.  Perhaps you should consider withdrawing to your own wallet so you have control over the bitcoins.

Thank you very much for your input!

I think the PSUs are having some issues indeed, but it is really strange that the one always fails is the PSU that is not powering the controller board.

Thanks, I'll think I'll go change the PSUs on Monday.

Turns out the VX450s only have 400W of power on the 12V rail, such that the addition of the controller would put them over the max. Its also not great beacuse it puts 350W through one PCI-E cable which is putting the cable way over spec.

Hello,

I want to use two 450W PSU (Corsair VS450) as here where I live is cheaper and easier to buy two of these than one of 850W.

This would mean I will use two PCI-E from each PSU to power two hashing boards on the rig, plus I would have to power the control board from one of the PSU. Does anyone know how much power does the control board draw? Should I care that I will have an imbalanced power usage from each PSU?

Thanks in advance,

Each hashing board is electrically separate so no problems using 2 PSUs. The control board will use somewhere between 10 and 30W, not much at all.

Hi dogie,

I run into an unexpected problem. So I got the two Corsair vs450 PSU's, I connected the first PSU to two hashing boards each with a 6 PIN PCI-E. Then the second PSU to the remaining two hashing boards and the controller board with the Molex 4-PIN connector.

At first it seemed to work, but after about 5 min the first PSU shut down. The second PSU kept working, keeping the miner alive and hashing with only two boards. I thought it was an issue with the paper clip hack, so I readjusted the clip and started again. Once more, it seemed to work, until 5 min later or so it shuts down again. This happened repeatedly, over and over, and I did all kinds of "improvements" to the clip to see if it got better.

Then I tried changing the PSU supplying the controller board. So now PSU 1 started powering the controller board instead of PSU 2 as previously. Now guess what happened. PSU 2 shut down after 5 min.

So I think the issue is that somehow these PSU refuse to take loads only in the PCI-E connections and wants to have at least another load in the Molex. What gadget may I connect to the Molex to keep the PSU working?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info,

For those who (like me) have focused a little too closely on ASICminer thread - here's a link to KnC's thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.0

It was started in APRIL 2013 and has over 1200 pages... It has shipped and plans to ship the current best miners (2TH+ in january) for extremely cheap prices ($6,000)  This is the competition and I feel it is worth bringing in here when discussing ASICminer. Did ASICminer's business plan change to account for the incredible fast rise of KnC? Does it include the CONTINUED fast development we're seeing from them?

Where did you get this info from? I think you are very mistaken.

KNCMiner is currently shipping their November batch of Jupiters (~ 650 GH/s) which is the most likely reason of the last spike in hashing these days. These were sold in the 5000-6000 range if I'm not mistaken.

They also just launched the pre-order of their new miners, called Neptune, which has been promised to be at least 3 TH/s machines. The first batch for previous customers sold 1200 units for $10,000 US, and now they're selling the second batch of 1200 for $13,000.

The big problem with this preorder thing is that they are committing to deliver during Q1/Q2 2014, which means a 6 month range that can make the difference between big BTC profit and big BTC loss. Even when I am a reasonably satisfied previous customer, I refused to take this deal because my estimations for difficulty increase made clear that it was very difficult to recoup the BTC investment.

I'm estimating that depending on delivery date, a Neptune could make between 6-13 coins. Consider that buying a Neptune was, best case scenario, about 10 BTC not considering hosting/electricity/shipping/duties. And if they delay the release for any "unforeseeable" reason, you'll be royally screwed.

The problem with KnCMiner is the same problem with all pre-orders, you'll never recoup your original BTC investment. It can be a fun way to purchase BTC "futures" but most likely not a way to multiply your existing BTC. I was one of the early preorders for the jupiter, and even though I've been doing pretty fine with mining, I'm expecting to break even BTC-wise. I will obtain in the end very much the same amount of coins I could have purchased directly at the time of buying the machine.

ASICMiner on the other hand, does not run these pre-order schemes. So you are much more likely of making a reasonable assumption of ROI when purchasing a miner. Also, if ASICMiner tapes out in late January, and starts selling/deploying miners anytime in Februray or early March, they can kick KnCMiner's ass, as I really don't think they deliver anything before April. Also, even with older technology ASICMiner's estimations for energy consumption of Gen3 are much lower than KnCMiner super 20nm chips.

What's going on today? the site is offline, is it being DDOSd?

Is the mining still taking place? or should I go for a backup pool?

Thanks,

Dr Haribo, would it be possible that you add global CDF statistics to keep track of luck more easily?

Some I would like to see:

*Current average CDF since last difficulty adjustment
*Average CDF per difficulty adjustment
*Historical all-time CDF for the pool.

Thanks, I put that in my TODO list. Sorry, everything takes time. But no good ideas are forgotten. Smiley

Thanks a lot for considering this.

All the best and keep up the good work!

By this time next year hopefully we can afford a really nice one!   Grin

We'll probably still be living in boxes since the bitcoin will still be climbing.

anyone see advantage buy upgrade for saturn? or is waste money
the difficulty will increase and companies to stay with our money

My estimation is that you can make about 4.6 BTC extra with one upgrade, so almost 2 BTC profit, assuming your upgrade starts hashing at the beginning of next difficulty adjustment.

The fact that BTC is at a historic high price makes this deal very attractive—because the price of the upgrade in BTC is low—so it is a good deal if you plan to reinvest BTC you already mined.

You should compare this to the price AVALON is currently selling it's four module miner 5.5 BTC for 110 GH/s at 750 W (twice as expensive for less hashrate and around 4 times the power consumption)

I think it is pretty clear that the ones that keep saying 'not worth it to buy miners!! any miners!!' are the ones not wanting anyone ELSE to buy miners because if they didn't care to buy why on earth would they hang out and try to save everyone money? Every hour they remind you not to buy miners.

Not even your Mother would try to help you save money that much

Well, there's some truth on what you say, but they have been right most of the time until now, as almost all preorders deals (including our own preorders with KNC) have fallen short of making profit in BTC. And I'm sure that those buying Cointerra's or other preorders to come will find that true as well. The difference with these upgrades is that they are ready (or almost ready) to ship, so the error margin when making the estimations is lower.

Hi,

Bitcoinorama, do you happen to know if the upgrades will be available for a Jupiter unit hosted with KNC?

Thanks!
