My best performing hubs are the "GEARMO" 10 port 3.0.  Also, have an AITECH 10 port that does not perform as well as I expected based on reviews here.

+1 on the Gearmo 10 ports. Very nice hubs. Looking to purchase a couple more, but can't seem to find them available on Amazon.com at this time Sad

There is a online distributor/retailer in Florida that goes by three names but all the same company/location.  I am fairly certain that the "GEARMO" brand is only that, not a manufacturer.  They told me they expect another shipment of 10 ports in about 3 weeks.  If anyone is interested perhaps we could organize one large purchase and get a better price.  The GEARMO 10 is very good but also very pricy.  The added expense of any hub obviously makes the cost/benefit of USB Sticks even sketchier than the cost of just the sticks.  The sticks price at least is coming down as difficulty rises-not so with hubs.

I'm about 110% certain that these in fact are the same ubs as the GearMo, just different label.

Yeah, I think as long as you're looking at how much power these things provide you're going in the right direction.

Re: Should I Escrow If I Want To Sell?

So, let's say I want to sell something on one of the trade sub forums here on bitcointalk.

Do most people use escrow when purchasing something?

Also, when it comes to selling something yourself, if it's an item that say, only has a one time use like a code or something of that nature, is it normal to request payment first before sending such a code?

It depends on many factors such as reputation of trading partner and item's value. For example if you are dealing with a long-standing member with an item of minimal value you may not want to escrow, but if you're dealing with a new member for an item of high value you probably would.

I disagree. If the item is not going to be worth much with paying fees for the escrow, then I agree. However, if you still earn a profit then I would always use escrow. Maybe ask buyer to pay for escrow as a lot of sellers do. Small amount of Bitcoin today could be worth a lot more in the future.

Yeah, in this situation it would be one of those things where if the buyer wanted to do escrow I would be fine with it, but I would request that they do the research of finding a person to handle the escrow and pay any applicable fees of the escrow, since escrow is more tilted towards buyer confidence than seller. Still that being said, once an escrow is chosen by the buyer, i would want to research said escrower so I'm not out both an item and the possible BTC I could have made.

Re: Butterfly Labs vs. ASICMiner Block Erupter

Spathi is right.

Looking at the specifications for this hub here:
http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-Hi-Speed-7-Port-Powered-DUB-H7/dp/B00008VFAF/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1379199838&sr=1-1&keywords=dlink+usb+hub

It looks like it comes with a 5v 3a power supply, which should be enough to power 6 erupter at 500mA each.

If you were to order two of those and just put a fan in front of it, it would cost you about the same amount as the solution I listed, with the Anker hub.

Anyway, 2 questions, where did you get your fan and if you're mining using a Erupter, do you even really need a fast computer or can you just use a cheap, semi-crappy desktop?

Fan came from Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003XN24GY/ -- It will be available on Amazon US or whatever location you are.

I have my 6 block erupters into the DLink DHUB-H7 which is hooked to a raspberry Pi. The Pi does everything to do with the block erupters (it runs cgminer).

So in terms of cost you're looking at $20-30 for the hub, $35 for the pi and whatever the block erupters cost you. Pretty cheap and nice and easy to setup.

This was my original setup: http://i.imgur.com/Rj8vzwt.jpg
* The LCD screen is an Adafruit LCD kit for the Raspberry Pi and is not critical to mining. I just like to see the hashrate easily.
* The hub was some crappy USB 2.0 powered hub but could only support 4 block erupters (2Amp power adapter).

This is my current setup: http://i.imgur.com/zl81Lgu.jpg
* Same LCD screen (I can change the colors on it)
* New DLink DHUB-H7 with 3amp power supply
* Fan added from the 2nd usb port on the Pi

This is CGminer hashing away on the Raspberry Pi (via ssh) with 6 block erupters: http://i.imgur.com/ADJKsSr.png

Deliberately using that version of cgminer as I heard newer ones had problems with the block erupters. However, I've also tried the newest version with no problems.

Perfect as that's already the fan i had in my car haha

This is my cart currently:

I hope you haven't already purchased this.

"For a stable connection, the devices connected to the 12 Port hub must not exceed a combined current of 5 volt 2A."

Each USB miner will consume about 500 mA so you're looking at a max number of 4 erupters possibly running stably on that USB hub with that power supply.

You have two choices, go with a hub like this one that comes with a better power supply:
http://www.amazon.com/Release-Anker%C2%AE-Uspeed-Charging-Adapter/dp/B005NGQWL2/ref=pd_cp_pc_1

That comes with a 5A power supply, which would allow you to run 9 miners and that fan and be safe.

Or try to find a new power supply that will work with that specific USB hub. This is a bit trickier and can possibly ruin both the asic miners and the hub if you dont use the right power supply.

I would personally just go with a USB hub with a power supply that can handle everything out of the box. Sure its a bit more expensive but it's more of a sure thing that way.

If I wanted a transaction to occur quickly, being new here, how can I trust someone doing the escrow?

Is there possibly a list of folks that offer doing escrow here on bitcointalk?

after playing with BFGM miner I found that you can mine on multiple pools. So you can set your miner to mine on 2 pools, so if one pools slacks on giving you work. Your mining software will point more hashing power towards the pool that is being more efficient. Its called LOAD Balancing.
Would you mind sending me a link of how to set up BFGM miner for multiple pools because i might try to continue to run slush (they have a 2% fee if i remember right) and run on the BTCguild PPLNS.

Thanks in advance. I'll do a quick google search, but if you have a link with instructions/information that worked for you, I'd prefer to read into that instead of taking a while reading through potentially outdated/irrelevant information.

Also, I would mine litecoins, but there are no asics that I know of for these.

One thing you have to be concerned about is that the power supply for the USB hub needs to have a pretty good rating or you'll only get away with being able to use a few ports.

For example youll notice that this USB hub has a 12v power supply that is able to output 5amps.
http://www.amazon.com/Release-Anker%C2%AE-Uspeed-Charging-Adapter/dp/B005NGQWL2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379194906&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+10+port

I've seen plenty of posts from lurking on here that show that hub of being able to handle 9-10 USB miners just fine. Most fill 9 ports with the USB miners and then fill the last port with a USB fan like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-USB-Powered-Portable-Cooling-Solution/dp/B003XN24GY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379195003&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+fan

Again, that is kind of an expensive solution, but it's one that works reliably.

You can try getting other hubs and experiment with using different power supplies, but that could end VERY badly. At the least you could destroy your USB miners and at the worst you could start a fire.

Go through Coinbase.com

I know of quite a few people who have went through them and it's really not that hard to setup. It also doesn't require boatloads of information like MtGox does. They have one of the easiest to navigate interfaces and also allow for easy integration with an authenticator you can setup on your phone.

Considering Purchasing A 25 GH Bitfury Starter Kit
by
flbtlgx
on 14/09/2013, 21:16:13 UTC
Hello everyone.

I'm new to the bitcoin world, and I have a little bit of money to invest.

I think I've done a fair amount of research into what is out there and readily available.

I considered purchasing some USB Asic Miners from some group buys but I don't like the idea of requiring the purchase of a USB Hub, specialized power supplies and USB fans.

I'm considering purchasing this unit from Bitfury:

25GH Miner Starter Kit (October Delivery)
https://megabigpower.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=61

With this it looks like I would be purchasing each GH at 52$.

However, if I were to additionally buy one of these:
Bitfury 55nm ASIC H-Board (October Delivery)
https://megabigpower.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=59&product_id=55

I would be looking at $1800 for 50 GH/s, which comes out to roughly $36 per GH.

Any recommendations?

Also, I am NOT going through BFL. I've read far too many horror stories about that company. Additionally, I'm not tech savvy enough to be able to solder my own boards by purchasing my own chips etc.
