Going through my coin collection I have a Casascius Bearer Bar where way back in the early days I mined directly onto with Eligius. It was the only pool I knew of that would distribute the coins directly from the block without routing them through the pool’s address first. So the Casascius Bar has quite a nice transaction history when you look up the address. All clean new bitcoin.
WK, I just want to thank you for all the hard work you did on Eligius. I will always consider it the best pool.
Thanks dude.

Apologies for the website downtime, guys.

We hoped it would be back up quickly but had to deal with some unforeseen technical hurdles.  Even though there are no private keys stored online, we use some unique encryption to protect the coin data from bad actors and this system is a bit of work to maintain.  I'll post here once its back online and fully operational.

If anyone is needing their 2FA coins redeemed in the meantime, I can help them here through the forums.  For those that have asked, the website is not needed to redeem private key coins.

-Tim

Thanks for the update and for the peace of mind to know that you have things under control. I'll wait for the site to get repaired.

So yesterday I got this email from guardians@titanbtc.com. It told me that restoring the site will take a while but if I send the private code from the coin they would send me the bitcoin to my address. All sorts of flags went up for me. So I replied with a questioning email. The email bounced. I tried again - I keep getting undelivered email notifications to that domain.

I was able to hear back from the support email. They said they are working on getting the site back up. Hopefully it will be soon, I need the money.

Thank you both, I'm looking at the other thread now.
Hopefully the site gets up soon. My coins are from 2013 so I'm up a creek if I can't get that 2fa thing sorted out.

I did send him a PM, but like you said he hasn't been on here for a while, since January. I couldn't be the only person trying to access the site though - does anyone know when it went down?

Hey I'm not sure if this is the correct location for this but the Titanbtc website is down. Any suggestions on how to contact Tim Fillmore or how to redeem my Titan bitcoins? I didn't want to put this in the scam section because Titan Bitcoin is not a scam, but it would be nice for their site to be working again!

Case comes with free global Internet access for the life of the device so you can use it to execute transactions all over the world.

How "free", and how long do the manufacturers expect these things to last? There's some serious missing detail in that part of this particular deal.

The company baked lifetime GSM access into the $200 cost.

That just doesn't sound plausible to me. Maybe there's a way to make that practical, but it sounds like there's information missing still.

It's a lot less bandwidth than the first generation kindles were giving away for free, for life. They use 1g or something like that, and only to sign transactions - I'm sure a good will is all they really need from cell phone companies. Maybe 1GB for the entire life of the device.

I'd forgotten about those, but I did hear about that deal when Kindles were more trendy, and remember being skeptical about that too. Maybe it can be done... I just can't shake the feeling that you might end up with an expensive doorstop quicker than you bargained for.

Any Kindle users out there that can add anything?

True, but between a Case and a Antminer, I'd say the Antminer will become a doorstop long before a Case will!

Seems pretty good, never heard of it Smiley I'd definitely like to try it. How's the QR code decryption accuracy? Would you be able to share a video of it working?

The QR code description accuracy is pretty good for me so far. I really don't feel like doing a video for you, sorry! Nothing you won't see on the website anyway. Check out their videos:

I'd love to buy one, but budget tells me not to yet. Sad Gonna stick up with the traditional paper wallets first before I get mine. Btw, what's the difference between Case and Trezor? Aside from the price, of course.

I'd say they are probably equally secure, (different kind of security but when the cards are on the table, equally secure). However Trezor needs a laptop with USB slot and internet to operate, case is something that stands alone. You whip it out, and make your transaction, anywhere.

Hey, So my Case came in the mail a couple days ago. I have to say I really like it.
It's about the size of 4 credit cards, if you stack them.
After setup, it is very easy to use. I chose to keep the third recovery key myself rather than trusting a third party company that could go belly-up. So that took a little more preparation than the average person. Most people will just keep the third recovery key with Third Key Solutions.
For info, they ask email, phone, and recovery questions. I suppose if you go the way of Third Key Solutions they will ask more questions. Then if you want (and have a bank), you can set it up further to be able to buy and sell the bitcoins straight from the device.

It's sleek. You pretty much turn it on, scan the QR code, and swipe your finger. And when it's not in use I've got it in my (credit card) wallet.
It's also like super secure, but you don't feel the security. It doesn't make you suffer because it is secure.

Great job CryptoLabs!

Glad you got yours. I ordered as soon as pre-orders were up and am still waiting. How did they ship yours and did they send you tracking if I may ask?

They send you an email with UPS tracking, I just put two and two together that I hadn't ordered anything from NY lately so it must be the case. It arrived a week later. If you haven't gotten it yet, contact them and ask. Their tech support is awesome. Most of the time Melanie responds herself.

If you look at life in present history, we are going virtual. We spend more time in virtual cyberspace than we do in reality.
Bitcoin is the cash for this virtual existence.

Re: Where do you store your bitcoins ?
by

on 30/09/2015, 12:36:50 UTC
I've got the biggest chunk in cold storage (Casascius bar) which would require a plane trip for me to go get them. Hence the temptation to spend them is reduced.
The next biggest chunk in cold storage behind three locks
Then the next percentage on an android phone in airplane mode except when I need it.
Then a very small amount on my cell phone (mycelium) for my expenses and purchases.

When my Case wallet arrives tomorrow this might change - I'll keep my cold storages for savings and the rest on my Case.
Man care to share how much you have spent on bitcoins?

Damn you must have a lot of coins to devide you wallets like that.

Haha! A lot came from mining. When I see someone I haven't seen in a while they usually ask me: "are you still into that bitcoin stuff?"
And I respond: "now I'm being paid in bitcoin!"

The text book answer is that it will go on forever.

However greed might make mining proverbially "blow up". Or just drop to an impossible difficulty and a pathetic hash rate. While mining could theoretically go on forever, the greed of insane mega mining farms has to exceed catastrophic proportions at some stage. What will happen then nobody knows.

Re: Mining rigs rental is that profitable?
by
fryarminer
on 30/09/2015, 04:58:30 UTC

But your paying a premium for rentals.  Normally it is cheaper to own the gear and mine yourself assuming right conditions.

Exactly. I have done all forms of mining. The cloud mining that I did was not the happiest experience I've had. Both "cloud mining" sites ended up being scams. I think the ONLY way to mine is get your own machine and plug it in. You can't be scammed by a physical machine you have in your possession, you know full well you really are mining.

Buying the right rig will get ROI in about 3 months and the rest is gravy. Try doing that with rentals or clouds.

3 month ROI is kinda gone for most.  Unless you have free electricity and got a deal on used gear.   For almost all 3 month ROI left during end of GPU mining day's.

Renting and Cloud mining are really two different things.   Renting a machine to mine BTC and paying BTC for that rental is a loss (unless you are solo mining and get lucky with lots of hash).

Cloud mining varies by company.  Make sure to do your research before jumping on a site as sadly there have been many scams.  Any investment you should research though.

I've always been lucky with my rigs. I rarely buy them directly from the company, I get them used. I've always ROI'd before 3 months and I sell them at a good price.
That being said, I have terrible luck with trading. I lose every time. EVERY time.
