There are a lot of comparisons but where they really differ is supply. Technically there is an infinite (albeit difficult to find/mine) supply of Gold whereas there is a limited (21 mil) supply of Bitcoin. Also, there are now only 4 million Bitcoins left to mine.

Definitely Bitcoin or Ethereum. There are some altcoins that might be more profitable short term, but the other two will be around for the long term.
