Re: Is Monero, Dash and all anon coins fucked?
by

This site shows the linkability of Monero:

https://monerolink.com/

Note the above is without the additional vulnerabilities which @AnonyMint detailed. Thus even 10 ring sigs mixes may be still insufficient.

More details:

https://steemit.com/shadowbrokers/@zooko/re-synapse-re-crazyflashpie-re-synapse-re-demotruk-re-synapse-re-theshadowbrokers-theshadowbrokers-monthly-dump-service-june-2017-update-20170606t153120581z

P.S. Zooko-Wilcox the CEO and lead dev of Zcash commented on AnonyMint’s blog.

Pure nonsense. Monerolink only applies to very old transactions that intentionally turned off privacy by setting mixin to zero.

Anonymint is a well known Monero hater. His mathematics knowledge is a joke; just enough to be able to waste the time of Monero's PhD cryptographers. He's been coming up with imaginary vulnerabilities since 2014. They require ridiculous conditions which exist only in his head. For his vulnerabilities to work, an attacker would have to own over 80% of all outputs on the blockchain, and also continue to generate new transactions to maintain that. In other words, they might work if you created your own testnet, but never on Monero's blockchain.

Meanwhile, it's almost certain that Zcash has a deanonymization backdoor, as hinted at by Zooko and Matthew Green. So Zcash is almost certainly a honeypot, with even less privacy than Bitcoin. It's not surprising that they would put out fake news on Monero, as their inferior system can't compete without deception and tricks.

No doubt about ZCash - sketchy backers, Zookos anti-privacy stance in tweets (fkin bizarre for a privacy crypto developer), state Intel development, toxic waste problem and Alphabay takedown five days after they start using it.

Re: Raising ICO Standards
by

I've been thinking about some ideas around how to create an ethical ico for a while although I was coming from a slightly different angle.

Top of the list was the idea of having a smart contract that is programmed to release funds along a schedule, based upon project milestones being achieved. Initially I was thinking that the tokens attached to an ICO could vote to delay/speed up such a schedule (thus empowering investors) but then I wondered if technically this could create issues with the SEC (would token holder's hold technical shares)? Lo and behold we get the annoucement from the SEC this week and I'm having to reformulate ideas. Where are you planning to base your ICO? Switzerland?

Would anyone be able to help?

DASH Masternode legality
by
geotom
on 30/01/2017, 16:12:29 UTC
Community,

I’ve recently been sent a link by a guy who was considering setting up a tumbler service for BTC but wanted my opinion on the validity of the information that he saw in the link, which could impact his business model.  I didn’t do much to help the guys confidence as I’ve already heard similar information coming down the pipe elsewhere – Norway and Sweden are already pushing legislation to consider services and nodes that facilitate coin-mixing to be treated as a form of money laundering.  This seems to be potentially influenced from the Quatar conference on money laundering (listed relevant key points below).

My question is this.  If this legislation is coming down the pipe, potentially in many nations, could this mean that a Dash Masternode which facilitates coin mixing also becomes illegal (in any nation using the Quatar conference recommendations as a template for AML legislation)?

If the majority of nations determine Dash Masternodes to be illegal (“should not continue to be tolerated”) then Dash would either have to:

a)  Follow extensive KYL/AML proceedures at each point in the process of transaction, giving the appearance (if not the substance) of privacy or,
b)  Dispose of the ability to conduct coinjoin mixing operations altogether and drop the “privacy focussed” moniker,
c)  Move Masternodes to those nations that do not consider Masternodes as facilitating laundering, leading to centralisation (and a greater point of weakness

I’ve seen that Amanda B has been asked on YouTube what the answer might be regarding the legality of Masternodes and private transactions, but so far they are only at the stage of liaising with legal representation to investigate the issue under current US law.

My concern is genuine because I have a modest investment in Dash and I feel that given potential new AML laws coming over the horizon, the Masternode structure could be a point of potential weakness (to legal attack).  If DASH drops privacy from their transactions and follows AML/KYC more strongly in the future then I feel that a large advantage of DASH over other forms of electronic payment will have been removed.

Investigate for yourselves, any genuine, knowledgeable or well though-out responses would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Global conference on countering money laundering and digital currencies in Doha, Qatar. The event was organised by the Working Group on Virtual Currencies, a joint initiative of the Basel Institute on Governance, Europol and Interpol, and funded by the authorities of Qatar.

At the end of the Conference, the following recommendations were agreed:

“All countries are advised to regulate Digital Currencies Exchangers and Wallet Providers under their current Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Legislation in line with the obligations already pending on the Financial Sector”

“All countries are advised to take action against Digital Currencies Mixers/Tumblers. Such services are designed exclusively to anonymize transactions and to make it impossible for Law Enforcement Agencies to detect and trace suspicious transactions. The existence of such companies should not continue to be tolerated”

They still have a week to deliver on time as stated on the timeline.
I would wait until then.

Look it's kind of obvious you are only here for the flip as you are already whoring another sig. My guess is you're out as soon as it's released anyway?

Trying to claim ICO but Electrum wallet refuses to send the verification payment labelling it "dust".
Can anyone help?

I used electrum to do the transfer. Maybe could it be because your putting : 0.00005 mBTC (Electrum is default in mBTC)
I remember 0.00005 btc is the transfer amount required for ICO verification.
In electrum it should be: 0.05 mbtc, and remember to pay a reasonable transaction fee.

Hmm very good point I will check after work. Thank you!

So what did the original Monero do for a classic to be needed? Also etc had exchange support from the start, does this?

When someone still sporting a RISE signiture is asking these questions, you know your ICO scam is a bit too obvious...

Thanks for the link. I'm sure there will be some money to be made from this (it is being hyped but various folk in crypto - good luck trading it for the first few months though). However it is EVERYTHING that crypto shouldn't be.

USgov VC funded, not trustless,  for the benefit of a single private entity, not decentralised, high hardware requirements for client (this is never going to take off as an exchange medium in China, Africa, S America if you can't use a mobile phone to make payments).

Adding the fact that the golden key could break anonymity (whatever the article says) and could be used to magic wand coins into existence and that we have to trust that all copies have been destroyed?

Fishy.

Re: Monero price is going up to 3 USD, transactions are anonymous - better than BTC

Zero cash release date just announced. Monero has around 9 weeks of life left.

First to dump wins.

Just going by your trust rating I should disregard your comment. However your comment is also cr*p.

ZCash anonymity is FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN. It isn't trustless.  They are talking about having a symbolic ceremony where their foundation divest themselves of their ability to spy on every transaction that takes place on the ZCASH network when it launches. WTF!

It probably will be pumped, and popular with traders and n00bs but it won't change the fact that ZCASH is never ever going to be an actual privacy-centric cryptocurrency.

IMHO ZCASH is best candidate for stealth NSA coin.

i cant wait till a few years pass and see where lisk stands.

It shows only one direction. Not very promising. I sold it some time ago. There will other projects come so that the market will be quite small for one solution as the competition will increase.

Then why are you still commenting here?

Geez, is crypto the only investment area where people think they have a god given right to 1000x returns on a sub 500usd investment within 1 month?

Can I have someone from the project to answer my question rather than the local sarcastic wanker?

You really are a moron.  You don't understand the meaning of sarcasm and you don't understand that your own statement proves that you can't use a Jaxx wallet.  Get a brain before you invest in anything and maybe a dictionary so you know what sarcasm is too. Grin

Troll. Ignored.

Ok, thank you. So sending BTC from a Trezor should work just fine, correct?
Yes if it has static bitcoin address.

Hi, I wish to send from a Jaxx wallet but Jaxx is an HD (hierarchical deterministic) wallet for BTC which means it generates a new address every time i send or recieve funds.

However the Dev says that you can use any of the previous addresses to receive funds.

Will I be able to use Jaxx to participate?

No you can't.  You basically answered your own question so not sure why you are asking.

thanks bro, 42btc at $588

I don't get why peeps need to ask. Surely you just ask for someone's wallet address then you can see how much lisk they have?
