Re: The problem with bitcoin is buying bitcoin

what does this average person can do with Bitcoin besides holding it and hope price increases? What can he buy that he cannot but with fiat? Exactly, nothing.

This is like saying using credit cards is not going to happen because you can buy everything with cash already. I see Bitcoin much like credit card, but much better, especially in fully globalized world in the future

I like the CoinControl feature. BTW I synced from start and during the process bitcoin-qt crashed about 5 times (about once per 8 hours). Only two times out of five at the end of log was error (10091): closesocket(hListenSocket) failed with error WSAStartup

The other cases no error at the end of log...

Re: Hmmm -- is this the end of BTC in AUS? !! Furious !!

But I don't want to pay more than 15% on top of btc price.

So you basically have to use exchanges outside AUS for not being charged +15%.

I guess there are more people named Satoshi Nakamoto in real live, will be interested to hear their stories as well. Unless they prove signing message to one of the early addresses, they dont convince me though they are the actual Satoshi Nakamoto behind Bitcoin

Or it could be escrow duos. Two escrows working together, both with access to the privkeys, so that if one dies of sudden plane crash, money is not lost. Smiley

Duos? How about 2 of 3s? Have each of the parties to the transaction be one of the three key holders.
Yes, it's better; there are many variations of course.

For example, you could have still "only one guy" as what happens now, but that lone guy would give a X-of-Y backup to other trusted people (2 of 3, 4 of 5, who cares). It's not even an issue of trust, it's also the issue of buses running over people. This can be done for wallets, but it can also be done to backup other things like account passwords so really there is no excuse, any serious service should have those kind of disaster plans.

I like the 2 of 3 reputable escrows to release BTC. But the escrow service will cost 3x more  Sad

I see Bitcoin more as more of an investment coin and one of the newer faster coins being used for everyday transactions.

But the reality is different, you can use Bitcoin for buying stuff and alternative coins just as speculative investment

Reality check: Bitcoins are only "cheap"  Cheesy when compared to the pyramid high price of 1200 dollars. They are nose bleed territory expensive, when compared to the few cents they were worth originally.

Bitcoins were worth cents many years ago, but 1200 dollars recently. So more appropriate is to say Bitcoins are cheap now

Hi all. I have a complete noob question. I am seeinglots of people posting in giveaway threads with address's that are not on cryptsy (ie memorycoin, and up till recently doge coin). My question is, where were people getting these address from ?

You have to install qt client for every altcoin not listed at cryptsy if you want address for the giveaway
But use virtual box for your main OS safety
