Re: PCI-E wires on psu very warm

I have 3 Corsair RM850 powering 6 overclocked antminers.  I've noticed that a few of the pci-e wires would get very warm, near where it connects to the psu, so I switched out the wires with brand new replacement wires over a month ago.  I'm having the recurring problem again but no more pci-e wires to replace them with.  Are the wires getting very warm safe?  Should I be concerned?  The wires are warm enough that I can only touch it with my hand for about 3 seconds before it feels hot.  I've been running the machines for over 2 months now.

WARM cables are OK. HOT CABLES ARE NOT. You want to aim to make your cables COLD/ROOM TEMP. The temp of the cables is directly related to the amount of CURRENT going through them in proportion to the CROSS SECTION OF THE COPPER in the cable.

CHEAP CHINESE cables 99% of the time HAVE SMALLER COPPER WIRE (to keep them cheap) in them than good name bands. But in saying that the "Budget" PSU's that name brands sell also often have these lower copper content cables to save money.

Always remember HOT CABLES COULD = FIRE and most likely a dead miner. (Insulation melts off and causes a short) again though, Good PSU's have Over Current protection and *should* cut off before that.

All of my PSU cables have been upgraded my myself and are ALWAYS stone cold  Grin Grin

The Corsair RM850 is a real quality PSU but the cables look to be under sized (the flat ribbon effect is nice for cable management and looks nice but the trade off is that the cables are slightly smaller than what is best)

As a side note: I hold a cabling licence in Australia so read into that what you will

There is a technique to coil any type of rope, wire, ethernet, extension cord, hose. If done the right way, there should be no harm.

Kinda twist with the material with you index finger and thumb into your left or right hand. I call this a neatly coiled up material.

These ethernet cables are from 2004-2005 CAT5E and still work wonders on my equipment. They've been properly coiled up countless times. Someone in my family actually "pissed me off" coiled it around their back hand and palm one time.

You are correct for avoiding PHYSICAL damage to your cables. ALWAYS "free wrap" your cables. In use or in storage. It will prolong there life and makes them so so so much neater  Grin Grin

The damage that OP is referring to is to the equipment that is attached to the cable and not the cable its self. But yours is a great tip to share too.  Cheesy

This heating is completely normal. It is caused by a slight amount of "electrical friction" from the current running through the wires. As long as they are not TOO hot, you'll be absolutely fine. On my 1100W X11 rig, even the WALL cables are slightly hot/warm.

This is mostly correct. WARM cables are OK. NOT IDEAL.

Always remember HOT CABLES COULD = FIRE. (Insulation melts off and causes a short) again though, Good PSU's have Over Current protection and *should* cut off before that.

RE: the warm WALL cable, If you are in a 110v region of the world this is OK. If you are in a 240v region this is not so good.

HAHAHA this is gold. Coiling your cables (Ethernet or power) wont do anything real negative. Ethernet cable coiled RARELY creates induction as induction requires an ALTERNATING current. Ethernet is a dc voltage with 1's and 0's modulated onto it. Normally a square waveform. Hence no/extremely little induction can be created. On the other hand, with 240v POWER (AUS) coiling your power cables can create induction, but at <10a max running though it and less than 50+ coils the induction is so small its irreverent.

Going along with this, a very relevant topic is the co-location of power and Ethernet. Try and always keep AC power cables and data cables(Ethernet) separated by about 20cm to help reduce "AC noise" being imposed on the data lines.
Most, if not ALL, power companies impose a certain frequency onto the power line to tell "smart" meters when "peak" and "off peak" times are. Add that to the 50Hz that Aussie AC runs at and you can get a LOT of interference. BUT any CAT5e or greater cables have shielding for this exact reason.

DOGE Gambling syndicate

Hi all,

I'll start out by saying, Yes I am a new user to this forum and I will be surprised if this is successful as people have no reason to trust me.

I have set up an automated betting system (based on the Martingale system, Currently can survive 22 loses in a row) on doge-dice.com and have had constant returns of approx 25DOGE/hour with only a 7000DOGE investment over the last 4 days.

I am offering people to join in on this if they wish. Please use your head and think about this before entering this syndicate. I will be open and honest as possible with all matters.

What I can offer is:
0% FEES (Unless request early payout then only 0.2%)
Minimum investment 100DOGE
Maximum investment 10,000DOGE
Minimum 2.5% return A DAY (If we have a good run and earn more you will receive more proportional to your investment amount)
Payouts once a week (FRIDAYS UTC (GMT/Zulu)) (submit payout request or amount will be added to your initial investment)
Re-invest all profits until weekly payout
Cashout your total investment+profit to date at anytime via request (0.2% fee for non-weekly payouts)

All Investors (DOGE addresses) and amounts will be updated to a google spreadsheet for full transparency with profits updated at least every 24 hours. (will be added as anon# if requested)

To buy in send 100-10,000 DOGE to DRG7TZNzos9caJoP5vMdCYW8XuYgkXUAxE and reply in this thread (or PM me) WITH ADDRESS USED and I will add you to the spreadsheet asap.

Any amount received less than 100DOGE will be treated as a donation.

Investors spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ak-QaqJhf2pWdE5nZnVWYkRrUHJhelFoM3hONXljcXc&usp=sharing

Payout request: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Aq8AEQ4_ZWcH-cqpxHkh3iVCZCx8ViYQfNFdmAgBvmI/viewform

NOTE: THIS IS GAMBLING SO THERE IS A CHANCE OF LOSSES albeit very small

More info about the Martingale strategy I've employed:
I wont tell you all my secrets but I will say Ive done 100 simulations of 1,000,000 bets with my current setting and come out on top every time. Most losses seen in a row = 19. Current settings allow for 22 losses in a row (Probability of approx 0.000318800905095) before total bust. The more DOGE we have in the syndicate the more losses in a row we can survive, In saying that it is possible for there to be an infinite amount of losses in a row but the PROBABILITY of this is super low. THIS IS A GAMBLING SYNDICATE SO WE COULD LOSE EVEYTHING
**DONT INVEST ANY DOGE YOU CANT AFFORD TO LOSE**
