is it only me or does the zeitcoin qt client sometimes gets stuck at blocks and requires a restart to move on?

It used to do that for me but not since the update. Did you check your connections when that happens?
Are you probably behind a firewall without UPNP?
If so or if you run into connection issues you can try to set fastconnect=1 that should help you get rid of stale connections to clients that have been shutdown or disappeared for some reason.

about the mint leaf icon
what's it purpose? i figured it would let me know when i have mature coins but when i hovered over it and it said no blocks ready for minting then i generate 4 blocks in 2-3 minutes  Huh
Thats because it only sais "ready" when it knows for sure that one is ready. In case a block gets minted and sent out its no longer ready. This is only for you to not always unlock your wallet because being unsure what might happen.

The Zeitgeist Movement recently lost an ally. Micheal Ruppert recently commited suicide. This is the unedited interview he conducted with Peter Joseph for the Zeigeist Moving Forward film.

This is very sadening news.
The world has lost another critical thinking mind and a warm soul.

Is it CPU mining friendly?

As CPU friendly as any scrypt algorithm. But maybe you wanted to know something else?

Yeah, I was kinda wondering if it would be a situation where I would mine for weeks and weeks and not see a single Zeit.

Hmm depends on your rate of course. I suppose one gets a decent amount but since there are no values from prior experience....
Guess i will try that pool myself. With my laughable 50Kh/s.

Is it CPU mining friendly?

I believe so however it might be a long time to see a btc payout to buy zeit with.

Also for anyone who receives a null btc address let us know we can assign you one manually our server might not handle the load

Thanks for organizing the pool. Smiley This will be really great for those with mining hardware among us.

Regarding the forum - Is it on purpose that you cannot see any topics if you are not a registered member? There are people that want to see first on what they sign up to. Imagine someone wants to invest in ZEITCOIN - but he can't see any information because you need to sign up first??? What is it top secret to outsiders?Huh

Since there are discussions on the forum that we don't really want to find on google the forum will remain "closed" in certain areas. However i fully agree that we should show more of the content to anybody taking a look in order to find out if he wants to subscribe at all. Thanks for bringing that up. Wink

We will see what we can do to arrange for visible content to anybody.

Hey guys,

for those of you who are interested in a multipool that pays out in zeit, I contacted one of the main Hashcows people in the forum and asked them to take a look at adding Zeit as a payout option. Here's the thread.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=293872.0

While some of you may have mixed feelings about the idea, I'm pretty sure there are others who wouldn't mind at least having it as an OPTION. Hashcows is a fairly reputable and trustworthy multipool with good community support, so if you think pointing your mining rig at a multipool that pays out in Zeit is something you are INTERESTED in then please post your interest in that thread.

Again, some of you may disagree with the idea philosophically, but there are plenty of people who mine other coins and dump them for zeit (because we don't want to go through the trouble of paying cash for BTC) anyways and a multipool is the most efficient way to do this.

So again, please post your interest on the Hashcows thread and show the pool admins that there is legitimate interest in multipool support for Zeit!!

Thanks. Good idea. That may also be a viable option.

Lots of people have been exposed to information about openssl vulnerabilities in the last couple days. Particularly since the detailed response from the bitcoin devs was released. The threat is miniscule to non-existant, but the solution is already available. The reluctance of zeitcoin devs to simply recompile the wallet with an updated openssl library is mind boggling. This is a young coin and people are gauging the effectiveness of each coin's dev team based on their response to this issue.

Fix it. Release updated wallet. Bask in praise.

Don't fix it and tell everyone to get bent and compile their own wallet and people will bail. Not exactly what this coin needs at this time.

Zeitcoin devs are not exactly inspiring confidence.

+1

This is super urgent - and the average Joe should not need to do that by himself. Please dev fix it and update the wallet asap.

To sum it up.
"Please make useless updates to make the average joe feel better."

sigh

another coin fails

GET PR HELP GUYS.

The target audience of this coin does not respond well to PR.

Are you serious? I am certainly not the average Joe (computer knowledge wise), but even I don't know how to compile a wallet. Out of 100 ordinary people you find lurking around here, how many do you think know how to compile a windows wallet? And I don't think besides being a mom to 3 small kids, I need to worry about learning on how to compile a windows wallet to make me and my investment feel safe again.

And useless? If it was so useless, why is the whole internet and especially the crypto scene all over it?

Because nobody uses the feature (as i explained above) in a zeit wallet. It has no use.

Hence: update = useless

As Lion said. Every other software on a machine is at risk if it uses SSL crypto. But not your wallet.

The ZEIT wallet IS in a way vulnerable that i bet none of you is using because you have not heard of the feature AND use it in that specific way.

If you use the RPC port, have RPCSSL enabled AND use the RPC port naked on the outside of your machine or to the internet (i don't know why anybody would ever do that, but whatever) then yes, your wallet is fucked. Otherwise. Nothing changes.

But of course there is that feature. So sooner or later all the coins will update their wallets. I will not go on to explain linking against different libraries (which is the reason that should motivate you to update your system). If this is not enough for you. Get the wallet source and compile it against openssl-1.0.1g. Done.

This coin's inflation rate recently fell by over 78k coins/block to 1/block. Oddly it's not until after that event that the coin dumps really got rolling. I know because I've accumulated more than 1% of the total money supply since that time merely by erecting low ball bid walls on cryptsy. It seems odd that there should be so much dumping on a coin with a healthy 25% stake rate and such a tiny block reward, but at any rate these dumpers will run out of coins to dump and the price will stabilize. The maths for indefinite dumping do not work with a 1 coin block reward and such a low price. I'm standing pat while these guys punch themselves out.

I aim a the same.
Just as with BTC, a low price is not bad if you feel like buying once in a while. Smiley

OFFICIAL WORD ABOUT ZEITCOIN (WALLET) & THE HEARTBLEED BUG

As far as we can be certain, there are NO issues with the default wallet -

(as is the case with most other alt-coins)

The problem is with the (system installed) SSL library, so if you update your system you should be safe from HeartBleed.

You SHOULD have version 1.0.1g of the SSL library after the update.

If you find the installed file is called libssl.so.1.0.0 you may need to check the package manager of your O.S./distro.

You could of course use a custom build of openssl-1.0.1g & link against that library, especially those using any versions of the Linux OS.

I repeat - this is NO specific issue with the default Zeit wallet that needs fixed or patched or anything else. Just practice good general computer security & there's nothing to worry about.

Thanks to the technical team at the community forum for this information Grin

+1 Wink

I can not say for sure if it only needs an updated system since there may be binary distributions that use a prepackaged ssl library. But that would surprise me since the library exists on almost any system and in general would be bad practice.

Probably winevirus can say something definitive about this.

In any case the network size of ZEIT is still roughly the same. Down to 250 of the usual 320 on average.

Even if your system is vulnerable. The coin core protocol is not affected. Opening wallets, sending/receiving coins is no problem. Your browser however may be a risk for your whole computer.

RE- THEFT

See header at top of every page here ^^^

Quote
A bug in OpenSSL, used by Bitcoin-Qt/Bitcoin Core, could allow your bitcoins to be stolen. Immediately updating Bitcoin Core to 0.9.1 is required in some cases, especially if you're using 0.9.0.

Could this issue also be the cause of the Zeitcoin thefts?

I am seriously starting to believe that we are the targets of some kind of 'organised action' Sad

The multiple 2-satoshi sells of 'round numbers' (1 mill, 2 mill) re-started early this morning, (notably at 06.08:32 UTC when EIGHTEEN simultaneous trades were made) plus some trades which are obviously 'wallet-emptying' (42 million for example).

WE MUST STAND FIRM.

Our coin is well-designed & has a 'righteous' purpose behind it. The dev team are strong & dedicated, we have a dedicated & growing community behind us & we are being accepted & promoted in a growing number of respected exchanges & information sites.

There is only one explanation...

We are the target of a conspiracy to break us.

And only one reason for it...

'THEY' are SCARED SHITLESS of what we are going to achieve together!

Keep the faith, brothers & sisters - use this opportunity to increase your wallets.

(but keep them very, very secure - even consider having your wallet on a removeable drive which is only active when you actually need to - purchasing & minting)

Not sure. However i think we are a very unlikely "first target" for such a technical exploit.
Usually the "low hanging fruit" gets targeted first. The ones with low security and high value. I dont see us there. Yet. Cheesy
