For me I think its very necessary. A project is only as good as its products. Also, working products will give investors a little assurance or peace of mind that the project is going towards success. I think its safer to keep it in a bank than in crypto. Banks have more security features and your money is insured. Also there are paperworks to be sign and you have a proof that your money is stored in them. In crypto, there are less security protocol and its prone to hacking and cyber fraud. For me its quite normal. Tokens value after ICO usually drops when its listed in exchange sites because people try to convert it as fast as they could for instant money.
