Did you take over max because it was a dead coin with a potential community ready to go, or did you get passed the torch from max himself - or whomever was running it for him? The development update didn't seem to cover that part.

I took over because I've always believed that Maxcoin has fantastic potential, has a great community, and was started by a couple of young developers who I think had the right idea and had their hearts in the right place, but fell short of seeing it through.  I even helped a bit three years ago, not with wallet development, but with building and hosting a Maxcoin chat room and coordinating and planning with Luke (the primary Maxcoin developer at that time).

At no point along the way did Keiser ask me to get involved.  Obviously, he's always been interested in Maxcoin but I've never seen any signs that he commissioned Maxcoin or dictated how it was managed.  He's asked questions and expressed support, but in my experience, there's never been anything more than that.  This is true even today.  My involvement with Maxcoin has been totally my own initiative, and honestly, we'll need more people to get involved to turn Maxcoin's potential into reality, but hopefully this is the first step down that path.

I have access to the maxcoinproject account on here, but wanted to at least get started by using my personal account first because I want it to be clear that we're more or less starting from scratch from a resources standpoint.

Please post questions, suggestions, and feedback so that we can help Maxcoin live up to its potential!

Hi goombaloon,

Why not joining the actual team and support them directly? , no doubt they could use a skilled hand, somehow taking over (right now) is not a good idea, since the coin just entered on the radar and got a spontaneous regain of interest, at best it will confuse everyone and kill the coin for good... . By the way using a side account, no offense, won't help either.

Tell us who you are, give us your vision, your logistic, your plans, and maybe...maybe it could work, until then even installing a wallet (sources?) coming from nowhere is a big no no for me.

I'm sure you understand the concerns Wink

Hi BTCspoon,

Yep, I definitely understand, appreciate, and even share some of your concerns...no offense taken.  Smiley

Regarding why I don't just join the actual team...I have.  Like I mentioned earlier, I was loosely involved with the Maxcoin team shortly after its initial launch 3 years ago.  Today, the original developers are no longer involved (though I've contacted Luke here and there recently) and I'm working directly with maxcoin.org.uk and a few others on rebooting this project, so please let me confirm that I am not taking over this coin.  All my recent efforts to get 0.9.4 released are captured on the Maxcoin Github project (github.com/Max-Coin), not on some other fork or anything like that.  The 0.9.4 download is available on the main Maxcoin github project at github.com/Max-Coin/maxcoin/releases/tag/v0.9.4.0.

Regarding who I am...I've been a professional developer for 25 years.  The vast majority of my experience is with Microsoft platforms, both pre-.NET using C/C++ and post-.NET using C#.  I've also done a bit of Java development and work on other platforms, including Linux.  Though I've done plenty of desktop development, the bulk of my work has been with web development.

Being that I'm full-time employed and have a family, I don't have a great deal of time to dedicate to Maxcoin, but I try to allocate nights and weekends as much as I can.  As such, we will need other developers to join in if we hope to succeed.  To that end, there are a few options that I'm currently exploring but would welcome more if anyone on this thread is interested or knows someone that would be.

As for my vision/plans...my first goal is just to get the Maxcoin codebase updated and build-able, deliver some needed fixes, and get some supporting infrastructure and tools in place so that we can then move on to more exciting things.  To that end, I've done (or am doing, or need help doing) the following:

  • Put a node online (dnsseed.maxcoinhub.io) and am coordinating to put a few others online (including dnsseed.maxcoin.org.uk) to serve as seed nodes for new wallet installations to sync easily.  The lack of a well-defined and reliable set of seed nodes has been an ongoing issue, and this is intended to remedy that issue.
  • Developed and deployed a REST API for querying the blockchain.  This is available at api.maxcoinhub.io  The source code will be open sourced on the Github project (it was written in C# / .NET Core).  I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
  • Developed and deployed a mining stats page that provides a hashrate and difficulty chart along with up-to-the-minute stats.  This is available at node.maxcoinhub.io.
  • Updated the codebase on Github to make it build-able again.
  • Updated, expanded, and verified the documentation for building the source code on Windows and Ubuntu.  These are available at github.com/Max-Coin/maxcoin/blob/master/doc/build-msw.md and github.com/Max-Coin/maxcoin/blob/master/doc/build-linux.md, respectively.
  • Updated the code in 0.9.4 to use the new seed nodes created above.
  • Updated the maxcoin branding and logos in 0.9.4 to match with maxcoin.org.uk (again, we're working together as a team).
  • Deployed a development blog at blog.maxcoinhub.io that I'm planning to use to share this kind of information.  In fact, I think my next post will include what I've provided here.  Smiley
  • Working to get the Maxcoin DNS seeder daemon up and running on multiple seed nodes to further remedy the node availability and discoverability issue.
  • Provide a blockchain bootstrap torrent so that new wallet users can get the blockchain loaded on to their machines more quickly.  Sync times for new Maxcoin installations is pretty slow (on the order of days), so providing a torrent of a periodically updated snapshot of the blockchain should hopefully provide some near-term relief.
  • Optimize the Maxcoin blockchain syncing code so that the above bootstrap torrent is eventually no longer necessary.
  • Investigate and address as appropriate the current list of issues captured Github.
  • Build, deploy, and open source a new blockchain explorer that leverages the blockchain API built above.

Again, these are all part of an initial first step of "rebooting and refreshing".  After this initial first step, then I believe we'll be well-positioned to move on to bigger and better things, which hopefully the community will help define and drive between now and then.

From this point forward, I will switch over to posting from the maxcoinproject account in order to reduce confusion or concern.

Thanks for the feedback and please continue to provide any further feedback regarding questions, concerns, or suggestions!

You need to launch with the -reindex param.  This will (eventually) sync up.  However, as mentioned elsewhere, you must keep the wallet open at that point.  Otherwise, the next time you open the wallet you'll get stuck again and will have reindex again.

Obviously, this isn't the final solution, but it works until the final solution is sorted out and implemented.

Since 2 days I have issues syncing my wallet.

A few days ago I installed v0.9.2.0 and it didn't sync, then I added "enforcecheckpoint=false" to my maxcoin.conf file, which fixed the problem. But now, since 2 days, my wallet is not syncing any more. The last confirmed transaction I have received is from 3-9-2014 08:11, after that I have one unconfirmed transaction and then nothing... It is stuck at block 593393 of 598947.

In the config file, the setting is: "checkpointenforce=false".  In the console, it's "enforcecheckpoint false".

something wrong,is it a folk?
sync rollback to 6 days, at block 580073,some coins are unconfirmed now!!!

Same issue after updating to 0.9.2.0, bloc 580073 /2014.08.29 - 17 nodes, and of course some unconfirmed coins

http://maxcoinnews.net/maxcoin-0-9-2-checkpointing-troubleshooting/

After you make the change, it may take a few minutes before synching resumes.

Also, come to maxchat.info if you're still having problems.  We'll help you out there.

one day left, what will happen?
the big pump ,or the angry of miner ?
Luke strikes again. Doubled his money again on the backs of the zealots. The most crooked developer on the planet.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I am actually on developing as per the wishes of the MaxCoin community as represented at MaxChat, so please don't tar me with the brush of a 'crooked developer'.

The blockchain explorer at http://max.cryptoexplore.com/ is back online.

Please spare us from the innocent developer routine. If this sector was regulated, you and your partner would be in jail.

And please spare us from your concerned citizen routine.  You've been trolling max for months.  You're either angry that you're missing out on the long-term potential of max or you're shilling for someone else.  Either way, you're trolling.

Luke has more integrity that any crypto developer I've ever met.  If you have evidence to the contrary (which I know you don't), then bring it forward.

The Cryptsy wallet is down and has been for a week.  Here is their response...

"Thank you for contacting Cryptsy.
Currently MAX is offline for maintenance.
Please know that your coins are safe, and  should be returning soon.
THank you kindly for your patience and understanding.
Have a great day!"

It sucks, I have a substantial amount of MAX here and can not transfer to my wallet.

Well, if no coins can go in then that means a serious lack of supply which would explain why the price is up 50%.

I'm guessing they're updating to the newest code - which should be taking effect this week.

Can anybody confirm this?  When is the newest subsidy cut [down to 16] taking effect?

Thanks!

MaxChat.info has a countdown.  The new mining rewards kick into effect on Friday.

Is there a working block explorer?  We can't come back online until we have validated everything on our side.

thanks
richie@bittrex
There is no working block explorer, you should head over to the chat room at maxchat.info, maybe someone there could help.

Looks like http://max.cryptoexplore.com/ is working again.

Looks like its still stuck...

    "blocks" : 591740,

getblockhash 591740
0000000000021dfafa28b34a4f2034b3a4638daa39a28a7c45811dbbaccf95cc

Thats our current block as of 10:14 PDT.

We really need a blockexplorer to make sure we are on the right chain etc... we can't come back online without something to verify against Sad

thanks,
richie@bittrex

See http://maxcoinnews.net/maxcoin-0-9-2-checkpointing-troubleshooting/

Also, you should be able to verify against http://max.cryptoexplore.com/

Firstly, before I respond, I would like to make it clear that I am posting as Luke (@LukeCrypto), the lead developer of the MaxCoin development team. Whilst we are very happy to have some support from BCX, and it is always great to read positive news about MaxCoin, I would like to defend the developers against continued accusations of foul play on behalf of our launch.

The claim that we, the developers, "scooped a bunch of coins" at the launch, particularly with the inference that we manipulated the launch to this end, is unfounded and false. I worked with a team of 10 people tirelessly in the days leading up to the coin launch and, unfortunately, there were several issues when we went live. These were caused by a combination of inexperience when launching a project of the magnitude of MaxCoin and the pressure inherent in launching a project as anticipated as it was - we simply launched too early, without having the correct testing and infrastructure in place. Whilst we are deeply sorry that the launch was completely smooth, and accept that this was the case, it should still be noted that the MaxCoin team has continued to develop the currency and any affiliated software, and still continue to do so to this day.

I would like you to consider the possibilities here: either we are lying and used MaxCoin as an elaborate and deceitful 'pump and dump' scheme or we are being honest with the community. If the former was true, why then, I ask you, would the team continue to maintain the software? Surely, having cut our ties with Max and with the crypto community, would we continue to invest our time into the project? I would also like to stress that, even before the launch of the coin, myself and Jordan made our identities publicly known by appearing on the Keiser Report - is this the behaviour of a scammer? No.

It is a great shame to me that there is so much talk of dishonesty and malpractice within the cryptocurrency community, and I feel that the hard work of so many people is being disrespected by a small number of individuals who are out to make some easy money, at the expense of others.

That being said, I am happy that this thread is bring some attention back to MaxCoin. The coin is still under development and is not going away any time soon. The MaxCoin community is growing and, despite the negative press it receives - of which much, I believe, is from people who hoped to "get rich quick", as goombaloon so succinctly mentions - we are working with developers on a number of MaxCoin related projects.

Luke.

Right on, Luke!

Haters may have more time and therefore be more vocal, but as you mentioned the lovers of maxcoin are here as well and doing their part to keep growing this community while defending against the trolls.  We can't wait to see how maxcoin develops in the coming weeks/months/years.  Big thanks to you and the other devs for your tireless efforts!

Workin' for the Man by day, workin' for the Max by night!

the worst launch ever..no windows wallet..totally scam..

Now its time to die, your greedy bastards.

I've been using the Windows wallet since day 1 with no problems.  Try again.

This is what made me lol'd

Activity 3

Right, because the truth is conditional based on my activity count?  Fact is, the Windows wallet was there from the beginning and has worked fine from the beginning.  If you can dispute that, please do.

I was 100% sure this coin was already dead. Let it die. There's thousands of other Alts.

Given your 100% certainty, we can therefore assume that under no circumstances will you buy maxcoin at any point in the future then.  Are you willing to stand by that commitment?  Just wanna keep you honest...or were just slinging baseless bullshit?

The thing about trolls is that facts don't matter to them.  Their purpose in life is to spread piss and vinegar.  Most of these haters are blind followers of the "oh, it's cool to hate Max" movement.  They have no original thoughts or facts to support their negative claims.  Indeed, from watching the self-congratulatory zombie trolls on mcxnow, it's quite clear that most of these guys are probably in their early 20s, have no meaningful source of steady income, and choose instead to live in their parents' basements, sitting in front of a troll box 22 hours of each day and tending to their group masturbation hate efforts.  They can't be bothered to actually watch/listen to Keiser to understand his credentials because that would require disconnecting from the hive mind for 30 minutes, which might lead to their sudden death.

The great thing about trolls, though, is that because they can't have an independent thought, they will quickly change their position on maxcoin when (or to be more conservative, if) it turns the tide.  As m_murfy eloquently pointed out before, many of the fundamentals of maxcoin are sound: good supply, currently very cheap, fair mining, great security and difficulty smoothing, support from a individual with credentials and a huge audience, and extremely fast confirmations.  The speed of confirmations are a HUGE advantage of maxcoin.  Widespread adoption of maxcoin for use in commerce is probably the biggest factor giving it enormous long-term, sustained value, and those that are investing heavily in it know that.  Long-term value is a concept not understood by the vast majority of crypto traders as many of them think they can avoid having real jobs by day trading one scam-coin after another.  They don't understand the notion of buy and hold.  Of course, the history of bitcoin prices over the years should have taught those people a lesson, but the crypto space is full of new entrants that don't know much about that history.

In fairness, we can't say with certainty that maxcoin will succeed.  Keiser has many enemies among the banksters who I'm sure are playing a role in leading the zombie haters.  But if you look at history, game-changing people (like Keiser) and ideas (like bitcoin) often receive the most resistance early on because they're on the right track against the current power systems that stand to lose their throne.

For the record, yes, I own a lot of max, and am buying more every day.  I don't worry about the current price.  Instead, I use it as a buying opportunity.  However, I can do that because I have a long-term strategy in mind here, which again, is a foreign idea to many in the crypto space.  Obviously, people like Max Keiser, Karl Gray (who many troll "experts" have never even heard of) and a few of us DO understand long-term value, and those are the individuals who stand to gain the most as (the very, very, young) maxcoin grows.

Trolls, have at it.  We know you have more time to post on forums and toll boxes than those of us with jobs, families, responsibilities, and worthwhile lives.
