Re: PhoenixMiner 5.5c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux)

After updating RX 580 driver from version Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.4.2 Recommended (WHQL) to version Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.11.2 Recommended (WHQL) on my 4 rigs, they are now kind of unstable, crashing so often like 2 days uptime maximum

Using Windows 10
PhoenixMiner 5.5c
6 cards each rig

I'll rollback to the oldest driver and see if they get more stable.

Anyone else having the same issue???

Hi everyone

I downgraded the drivers version to 20.4.2 but it kept crashing! But after downgrading PhoenixMiner to 5.4c it has resolved.

5.5c is not stable for my Rx 580.
A friend of mine is having the same issue with his single Rx 580.

Hi guys

By chance is someone else experiencing GPU hangs today??

I have 4 rigs all cards are the same Rx 580 8gb and the miner of all rigs runs for 1 hour or so and all of sudden I get a message saying all GPU is hanging by the watch dog, and as I have set -rmode 2 with a restart batch file it reboots my Windows.

Using PhoenixMiner 5.1c
Mining on Nicehash pool
All Rigs have 4gb of ram

Weird problem...
Every time I access one of the rigs through RDP after closing remote connection GPUs hang in some minutes! It might be something on my laptop side after some Windows Update!

Has anyone ever tried to run amd and nvidia stable on the same rig?

I was running 6 rx 580 perfectly, however I added a 1080Ti and after 2 days running it crashed (black screen) leaving no trace of the cause apparently.
yes I do. should be no problem. I have polaris vega and pascal (and 5700 too actually) in same rigs. works fine. also I always set my volts for AMD independently of miner apps

Yeah now it's running fine, my mobo has 6 PCI-E and I installed an adapter multiple card (PCIe 1 to 4 PCI-Express). It seems this adapter was not well connected and a reseat resolved.

This adapter:

Is there any gain by over locking in the config file instead of using something like afterburner?
I use afterburner and it works pretty damn good. Just wondering if there is some sort of performance gain to do it in the config for the miner instead.

There are some miners with no clock settings built in, so you will need a third party software.
IMO Afterburner is for amauters or testing stability before going live because in case of power loss your cards can reset the clocks to default, setting on the miner cfg or either on BIOS your cards will never miss clocks settings. You can set a script as well.

Hi

I moved to PhoenixMiner from Claymore to be able to mine ETH a few more months with my RX580 4GB cards. I understand there is no -strap or -rxboost option for AMD cards. Do you guys use a seperate tool to apply straps or did you flash the cards?
The straps provided by Claymore was a bit better than the timings that I flashed to the cards. Win 10

Yeah you can use AMD Memory Tweak
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5123724.0
I recommend you to first run with Claymore and open AMD Memory Tweak to check which parameters have been set then copy all these values, switch to Phoenix Miner and set those values after 1 min or so. You can use a simple batch on Windows start up to set these values after the miner is up.

Strong recommend you to find out which -gt number is the best and fix it on the config file

My config

Asus RX 580 8GB samsung memory

30.1 Mh/s

--R2W 31 --RC 75 --RRD 5 --RCDRA 26 --RCDR 26 --RCDWA 14 --RCDW 14 --RFC 184 --RP_WRA 55 --RASMACTWR 33 --RASMACTRD 28 --ACTWR 9 --ACTRD 10 --RAS2RAS 101 --RP 24 --WRPLUSRP 30 --REF 45

-cclock 1100
-cvddc 800
-mclock 2050
-mvddc 825

Thanks, but according to deadsix (one of the latest post in the AMD Mem Tweak thread) it's not possible to read the timings from the card. This is however not important if there is another way to find a good strap. I have 580 Nitro+ 4GB and suppose it's the most used card in mining.
There is a GUI and a CLI version but no explanation on how to use them. You run the CLI version followed by the settings you listed? --R2W and so on?

You are not gonna need the straps (use -mt 1 on Phoenix), just copy all the timings from the GUI and test them on PhoenixMiner, after everything is stable you can set a .bat file to start up on Windows like mine:

TIMEOUT /T 60
C:\Users\Rig1\Downloads\amdmemorytweak-master\amdmemorytweak-master\win\WinAMDTweak.exe --R2W 31 --RC 75 --RRD 5 --RCDRA 26 --RCDR 26 --RCDWA 14 --RCDW 14 --RFC 184 --RP_WRA 55 --RASMACTWR 33 --RASMACTRD 28 --ACTWR 9 --ACTRD 10 --RAS2RAS 101 --RP 24 --WRPLUSRP 30 --REF 45

not sure about the timings. but what is it you are trying to achieve here?
this gpu should be over 32 relatively easy. not sure about this maker though, in my experience ASUS is shit. try over 1150 core and over 2066 mem. you may also want to increase your volts to 850+ and it will be capped at the highest volts between the two: mvddc and cvddc

Just to record this information to help someone with this hardware in the future.
Yeah this card can go @32mh/s but I don't want more heat, there are 24 cards in a room and I can't use a lot of fans because of the noise.

hi everybody i have a problem and need your help

first i noticed that this problem happen only when using a Gigabyte motherboard and others is ok

the problem is when no display is connected to the motherboard and windows and miner is running ok if the power go down and return the system boots and miner begins till it define the gpu in miner console then it pause and doesnot mine till i plug a display in the motherboard it resume mining without any problem
this is too wired because it means i need a display for every gigabyte motherboard
please advise

YOU need a HDMI dummy head. you can get 1 on ebay or amazon for like $10

Indeed
I used to have this issue until I buy the vga dummies, HOWEVER the dummies are disconnected and I noticed that this issue is gone.

Using PhoenixMiner 5.0e
AMD driver 20.4.2
Windows 10 17134.1246 and 19041.264

Maybe the latest amd driver fixed this

I see some confusion on the internet about $XGM Defis x $GRIMM Grimm

Like this site shows $XGM as the most profitable mining coin:

https://minerstat.com/coin/XGM

But this is not true, this information seems to be crossed after the hardfork.

It is showing the reward from $GRIMM with the price of $XGM.

Basically if you got any 4GB GPUs you should sell them ASAP before they completely stop working under Linux and with the 8GB as GPU0. Because there is going to be a flood of them on eBay and Craiglist and it'll be tough to sell them.

What I did was basically sell some of my 4GB RX 470 for like $80 and bought 8GB variants for $100-125 USD. Currently its the only solution to the DAG problem. Plus when all 4GB stop working plus the ASICs the difficulty should be less and more profit for your 8GB GPUs.

Thanks by the answers guys, you are amazing.
I'll put them on sale this is the momento to take advantage of the GPU high prices (at least in my country) and wait for the prices of 8GB cards to decrease.
I'm keeping an eye on 5700 XT and RX 580 prices.

Do I hear right that Claymore is no longer being developed / maintained...? Where has this been confirmed...?
I know he's posted it here in this thread, I don't know the exact page.
If it's not this (Dual ETH miner) miner, I might have mistook it from his other miners but I'm 65% certain I'm correct.

-Edit-
Weird, this was his last post: /index.php?topic=1433925.msg53050842#msg53050842, there's no official announcement of "last version".
But I remembered that there was a long post here about the final version.... hmm.

Nevermind my previous statement then.

Thanks for your reply @nc50lc, I also couldn't find anything while searching.

Anyone else having a problem getting 4gb cards to mine at the moment..?

Yes
I had to migrate to PhoenixMiner which is an awesome miner as well
But when 4GB cards stop mining I'll buy one 8GB card for each rig and problem is solved.

hi
How to make sure that when reaching for example 62 degrees, the mining intensity decreases so as not to exceed the temperature threshold. What commands to put in a batch file. Driver version 19.7.5 mining 5.0b (my current settings, but on them the temperature continues to rise and above 62 degrees without reducing the intensity of mining -tt 61 -tstop 67 -tstart 50 -tmax 62 -fcm (0 or 2) -fanmin 50)
There is no such feature (reducing mining intensity to keep the temperature in check). You should use -tmax, which lowers the GPU core clocks when it reaches the target temperature. If it doesn't work, try a newer driver version (e.g. 2.4.2) and if still doesn't work, let us know what cards you are using.
Hi, about my question, tested on drivers from 18.6.1 to 18.9.3 on them the reduction in the core frequency works, on drivers above this version it does NOT work, on the latest version 20.5.1 it does not work either. Now in the summer the -tmax parameter is very relevant, please look and if possible implement it on drivers above 18.9.3
I use most of the video cards PowerColor Red Dragon/Devil RX580, but there are others 580 series (Sapphire, Gigabyte) they also do not perceive this parameter, program Phoenix 5.0e, Windows 10 LTSB/LTSC

I have 18 GPU mining for 20 months and some fans are not doing well, about 3 cards.

While my spare fans are coming from China, I would like to keep these cards mining and set a target temperature to lower its mining intensity like this command I used to use on Claymore:

"-ttli   reduce entire mining intensity (for all coins) automatically if GPU temperature is above specified value. For example, "-ttli 80" reduces mining intensity if GPU temperature is above 80C"

I get temperatures above 70C 6 hours a day when sun is heating however the o ther 18 hours I can mine at full speed.

I'm using -ttmax but it's not working
I read the whole README and couldn't find any similar automatic control.

All cards are Asus RX 580 4GB
Windows 10
PhoenixMiner_5.0e
Driver Version 20.4.2
