Is there a tool (or intention to have one) to check the number of IOTA assigned to a given IOTA address? This would be a tiny subset of a fully fledged Tangle explorer I guess.

@NxtChg: when you mention "progressive" stake as a third mode of vote-weighing, do you mean something like Reddcoin IPO (http://www.reddcoin.com/ipo/) which "used a simple formula to  give a better coefficient to top investors"?

Yes, something like that. Non-linear scaling.

The code should probably be a separate page on the IPO site, I will PM you with details.

I am glad you decided to help. The price is reasonable.

Ok, thanks. I'm going to send you some additional contact details.

This is my chance to redeem myself from overly deliberating and missing IPO Smiley I like SIMcoin and I'm even thinking about building other stuff in addition to this voting add-on. I'm sending additional info to NxtChg.

Here is my offer:
- price: 275 000 SIM which is ~ 64$ worth at current IPO price and bitcoinaverage.com
- ready to go a bit lower in case of undercut attempts
- I have 3 years of experience with LAMP development so I believe I have a fair chance of meeting NxtChg's guidelines and standards if anything beyond the initial description comes up
- psychologically ready for a situation in which development prolongs itself up to a factor of few times, for whatever reason (reason can be both something "positive" or "negative" actually)

Currently I understand scope to be:
- well commented pluggable PHP code to generate users' voting poll, e.g. simcoin.info/voting.php?poll=XYZ
- simple admin interface with poll viewing and editing features
- necessary MySQL create statements
- 3 modes of vote-weighing supported (per-vote, per-stake, per-stake progressive)

@NxtChg: when you mention "progressive" stake as a third mode of vote-weighing, do you mean something like Reddcoin IPO (http://www.reddcoin.com/ipo/) which "used a simple formula to give a better coefficient to top investors"?

It might be a good idea to have a simple idea crowdsourcing system and to have it connected to the future simcoin.info voting system.

Would this proposed exchange deal with "real" SIMcoins or would it trade with stakes/tokens representing stake(s)? In later case, NXT asset exchange appears somehow optimal, I'd think.

I speculated that the IPO would last much longer (at least 6 months) and deliberated the amount to invest and managed to not invest at all.  Angry

@xtester: what would you say now about "later investors having significantly less risk"?

@gstarcev: 6 months?! And have at least 200 very pissed-off early adopters? That's not the way to start a project...

Besides, I kept telling people: invest small, increase later. You have no one to blame but yourself, sorry.

Yup, I'm angry at myself pretty much. Ok, if person X wanted to sell stake to person Y, could that be supported and in what way?

[WTB]

If anyone else wants to unlock some amount of invested BTCs, I want to buy ~0.5BTC worth of someone's stake. I offer 115% BTCs for it (e.g. 0.575BTC for 0.5BTC of stake). I speculated that the IPO would last much longer (at least 6 months) and deliberated the amount to invest and managed to not invest at all.  Angry

EDIT: alternatively, I offer NEM stake via NXT asset exchange in exchange for SIM stake at 100% rate.

Please, PM me with offers. Thanks

Thanks for the prize and competition, mumbly. It was somewhat mysterious, just like the identity of Satoshi when one first discovers Bitcoin Smiley On day three, just enough "web-searchable" key facts were given, and I was lucky to be passing by the thread sooner than the other person that also gathered the answer on day three.

These facts are just like parts of a composite key in a database. At some point it starts to point to an unique entity in a "dataspace".

Also, the threads with those scams usually get deleted from Bitcointalk so we no longer have the information on them..

Does Bter.com respond to communication on contact channels given on English version of their site?

Few months ago, I personally found out that they communicate and respond promptly only via contacts given on the Chinese version of their site (click on the PRC flag in the upper right part of bter.com to get it). I had to use QQ IM (it has English-Chinese translation built-in) software to communicate with them in Beijing morning time. You could also try to contact them with other means listed at https://bter.com/news/contacts (visible only when the language is set to Chinese) in case English contact channels don't work out.

Re: New Coin - Where's the Void?! You tell me!
by

It would be cool to not contribute to the obscene amount of new cryptocurrency spawns and instead work to upgrade existing ones with newly imagined features. But, if the newly imagined feature/altoin is truly valuable, original and irreplaceable with any existing altcoin, it would have merit to spawn a new one.

If designing a new altcoin, consider following the footsteps of Gridcoin and Curecoin. Especially Curecoin: it seems to be a hybrid between centralized and decentralized system, it uses centralized tracking to issue rewards in proportion to points obtained in particular distributed computing project (F@H) and is also a hybrid POS/POW coin which can also be regularly mined and obtained. You could copy its model to other distributed computing medical research or science projects (other than F@H). Combine it with something like this: http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2014-02/24/htc-power-to-give (smartphone based pseudo-supercomputing) and you have a potential to have whole Africa mining coins with cheap smartphones while contributing CPU/GPU cycles to useful scientific research and earning something in return.

Also, one crazy idea is to have some kind of consolidation of very similar "shit coins" in some form of fusion in one new "chimera coin". You'd have to merge chains, wallets, logos, coins, names, everything, in order to fuse 2 or more shit coins to form a brand new chimera. It seems like one would have to be very skilled to accomplish something like that, implying a person who would probably not want to be involved in somewhat frivolous activity of that kind.

Also, it seems there is a vacuum of cryptocurrencies which explicitly address, explore and embody non-implemented aspects of security against potential emergence of powerful quantum computers. Ideally, they would combine all the techniques considered in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-quantum_cryptography.

I have a suggestion/idea - a possibility to have an additional/alternative type of altcoin tracking: by manually entering number of altcoins instead of having to define their address. It could be useful if for example you have some altcoin which you want to track but it's scattered on multiple addresses of which some are unknown (be it on exchanges or online wallets or virtual machines or something else) so you'd want to type the number of those particular altcoins instead of trying to track them by various addresses.

Also, some particular addresses might hold coins for more than one person - this is also the case when tracking by address doesn't seem enough.

It could be implemented as additional manually defined entry for any given particular altcoin in addition to "address-based entry".

I understand that ideally no one would ever want to hold anything in any online service but in practice things can sometimes differ.

Another idea is to eventually also add possibility to track properties like aggregated values of stocks/shares/etc. on various crypto stock exchanges or maybe even colored coins/smart properties but that is almost a project in itself.

Re: NobleCoin ?
by
gstarcev
on 01/02/2014, 01:54:48 UTC
I like NobleCoin. One of the most powerful things about cryptocurrencies seems to be effortlessness with which multitudes of people can move value around the planet and NobleCoin is leveraging that by design by focusing some percentage of that value to automatically transfer to charities and similar stuff which is totally cool. One thing I would like to see, perhaps with NobleCoin, is to enable or plug-in some kind of more streamlined public voice system, one of those SaaS tools that some modern enterprises use to receive ideas and suggestions from public, which would enable crowds to provide ideas and vote (read: prioritize) on them - ideas on which charities and causes to support. Later, the same system can perhaps be used to suggest and vote on some meta ideas related to NobleCoin in general.

One suggestion I have which might be totally counterintuitive is to proportionally lower the amount of coins given to all charities, that is - lower the raw number of coins distributed to all charities in equal proportion, in order to prevent price from inflating too much in relation to Bitcoin in order to control the price of currency and have it as stable and linearly growing as possible. Of course the value of donated amounts, even if number of donated coins is lower, would be the same if their price is higher. Throughout years, Devcoin has alternated around the value of 100 Satoshis and that (among other reasons) probably prevents people from investing in it more agressively and raising its value significantly even though it's an old and somewhat established coin. And ultimately we want the market cap and value of NOBL to be as high as possible, to have the greatest possible leverage in helping those charities Smiley

EDIT: In the long term my vision is naturally as follows: the NobleCoin can be used as a short and medium-term platform to obtain all the attainable experience about what works and what doesn't work in altruistic/charitable system/company/organization/entity and use that experience to encode all that wisdom as some future DAC/DAO on top of whatever DAP/P2P grid/Etherium-like platform will be standardly used at that point in the future..
