It's mostly fair but can be a pain if you have been a lurker that suddenly realizes you want to post then get held up as a newb, but I guess you only have one person to blame for that!  Wink

If your looking to mine bitcoins then your best bet is an ASIC if you can, otherwise be prepared to spend a bit money on a decent GPU setup.

There are a number of sites comparing profitability, if your looking to get started in cyptos then your better off looking at a scrypt based alt coin such as Litecoin or one of the newer coins that are flooding the market and selling them for bitcoins.

There are a lot of options from simply buying them on an exchange etc or investing in the hardware to mine them, either way its really a case of spending money to make bitcoins  Cheesy
